I remember getting this album for Christmas when I was 12 (I just aged myself lol). Vanishing was my absolute favorite song. Her voice was much more soulful when she first came out b/c she was influenced by Aretha and gospel music like the Clark sisters. Tommy Motolla made her change to a more “pop” sound to expand her audience 😒

I originally wanted to sing “I Will Always Love You”, but my classmates told me I was not “black enough” to sing that song (as a mixed race person), so I slayed this song instead. After that, I was considered the best singer in the school LOL

Her label had control of her music... But they didn't have control of her remixes Mariah's remixes opened the door for hundreds of new artists.... That's why Mary j Blige loves Mariah Carey I'm not saying hip hop and r&b wouldn't happen... But Mariah brought attention to it and brought it to radio....
