It actually only takes guts to be so open AND respect yourself at the same time. Being a sad sack is something a lottttt of weak people do and it's a weak thing. I love Mark Normand and this was an interview of sorts where he just gives you insight and it's good - but the podcast has gotten worse and worse because they talk constantly about how much they hate themselves.

exact same him first on a Rogan multi guest pdocast and tought this guy is hyper and i dont like it....i relate so much to Mark on so many levels it is scary even down to the eye contact and guilt from eating a freaking Big Mac and opting for a granola bar.
I can't believe I'm not the only one who feels like Mark. I slept on an air matress that would deflate thorugh the night for 2 years. I went to McDonalds once a year, and only on pay day. I could afford new bed sheets, but I still sleep on the ones I pissed on a hundred times because I was drunk. It's deep, deep guilt and shame. No matter how much money you make you can never beat it.
man i made the mistake of telling co workers i was gonna buy a guitar. like 3 years went by and theyd ask me, "you buy that guitar? no? why not!?" well if i told you the real answer and said i feel like i dont deserve it then youd all look at me weird!

No idea where mine is - I feel guilty of any success like it’s undeserving and have a hard time asking for favors or help. And man I wish my piss sheets came from boozing instead of whatever the fuck made my sheets look like a coffee filter at age 9 - damn that Normand joke about the traits of a serial killer is so good. Mark is the guy people need to listen to and observe every time they make decisions as a parent. People do not realize how much their seemingly insignificant decisions can impact their kids. He’s damaged psychologically and it’s because of negligent parents who *thought* they were doing a good job.

I was thinking along the same lines. If he was in a relationship with a woman to where they started sharing the management of finances, would he be OK with her spending his money on things like furniture and a warm coat. Still his money, but through her decision and not his. By this I am not calling girlfriends and wives “helper monkeys“, but I’m not not calling them that.
This was beautiful, man. I like hearing people open up like this. It takes strength, honestly. I resonate with a lot of this - the inability to realize one's own good life and just feeling trapped in that insecurity. Best to you!

When I had a lazy job, I was HAPPY! If I have extra money, I HELP ppl! When I’m low on money, my friends help me! 😀 Helping ppl is the best cure for guilt.

Guys i was raised by a single mother from india and went through a pretty similar childhood....and now i understand why i am not going to a mc Donald's and buying a drink for myself... even though I'm doing preety good for myself and can definitely afford it. Thanks mark for helping me understand myself..you are thr the therapist i needed i guess😅
I relate to all of it. And I see my therapist weekly as well. Amazing Normand has the ability to talk about it, let alone in such comedic terms. Fuckin A plus.
