I bought My Father a Marlin 45-70 many years ago. He had mentioned that he wanted one ont time, so I Suprised Him with it. Hex Barrel Cowboy Model. Sadly he passed away in 2010. However he really Loved and enjoyed it and His eyes lit up when he shot it. I just wish he had seen a Elk when he took it Hunt'en, just before he went to be with the Lord. Excellent Vid Guys, Thank You ! I truly appreciate your channel.

what are the gun laws like in france?
@BaguetteShooter
@BaguetteShooter Год назад
@@65stang98 Hey ! To make simple and easy : - The biggest caliber available in France is the russian 14,5x114 - We can't have full auto nor converted full auto in semi auto since 2018, it must be semi auto from factory. - We can have up to 12 semi auto' weapons ( handgun / rifles ) - We are not limited in bolt actions rifles or antic rifles / pistols - We have a weird law regarding stocks. The stock can't be collapsible if the rifle may be under 60 cm with the stock folded - Weirdly, suppressors are free of papers / free purchase - Maximum capacity allowed is 30 rounds but with exception you can have more ( IPSC shooters ). The biggest problem is since 2018 the loss of ex-full auto rifles, even converted in semu auto. So since 2018 we can't have anymore STG44 / Thompson / BAR / soviet AKs / UZI. It must be semi from factory.

This is the gun i was searching for at the beginning but here in sweden we have some issues with imports so i had to manage with the 1895sbl, the only rifle on the shelf. I’m in love with this rifle. There’s just something so satisfying about leverguns for starters, along with the longer 26in barrel, and having 9+1 rounds of .45-70 on tap just takes the cake. Big bore cowboy assault rifle perfect for a brush rifle role especially with .45-70 or defending the homestead. The super heavy trigger though?! I just watched a review from Jeff with Gunblast and he seemed to like it, saying it was around 4.5lbs. Huge fan of your vids Hickok, thanks for dedicating your time good sir.

I picked up a 1895 cowboy today, Sept 28 2018, looked over it....and it looks pretty good overall. Even the forearm. Its rounded like the older 1..and the barrel and the receiver, is 1 color, and the wood looks good..out of a 10, I would give it a 9...and I love your video's...keep it up

I have one of these rifles and it is my favorite! with the 26" barrel the recoil is less than my .30-30. But, I found some 430grain from HSM called bear loads. The rifle holds 10 rounds but with the bear loads about 4 consecutive shots is about all you want. Love this rifle!

I bought a new Marlin 30-30 lever action last year and it is a great gun. They have been making great improvements in the last few years. I had read about all the quality control issues so I contacted the marlin rep before purchasing and he was great. He admitted their issues and worked me through everything they have done and are doing to bring their quality up to spec. I was convinced and am very happy with my purchase.

I only own one .45-70, and it happens to be a Marlin 1895 Cowboy (CB). I purchased it before Marlin was bought out in 2007. I decided on this model for a few reasons: Needed a .45-70 big bore for hunting and knock-down power. Needed reliability and a sturdy designed rifle. I chose the 1895CB because it could do everything I needed it to, along with having a 9 round capacity. It may not be the perfect 'Bush Gun', but it will serve for that as well. This one is one of my favorite rifles in my collection. I can't see myself owning another .45-70 because this one does it all.

@paulsimmons5726
@paulsimmons5726 7 лет назад
The 45-70 is simply a go-to round but the shooter really needs to know the drop/distance numbers. The Freedom Group has been buying up a number of older name companies and the quality has completely gone down the tubes... The remarks made about the trigger being very stiff comes as no surprise. 100+ year old Marlins are smooth by any measure and compare well with old Winchesters. We had a recent production model Marlin 30-30 in our shop and the wood to metal borders had 1/8" gaps! It seems like older Winchester and Marlins will continue to rise in price, day by day. Thanks for the honest review!

If you are talking about a 'compact' then I like my 1895CBA. It is the cowboy Hickok is shooting in this video, except the barrel is the 18.5" with a full mag tube. I like this because you get the best of both worlds of the guide gun and the cowboy. Octagonal barrel, full mag tube straight stock. But I also like my full size cowboy as well. I have the matching set.

My Cowboy is in .45 Colt . What a beauty. Had my friend and gunsmith engrave my initials on receiver. I sometimes get it out just to polish and admire its American steel and walnut. A great sidekick to my various wheel guns in the selfsame loading. It’s gleaming octagonal barrel a nod to times past. Also have an octagon Marlin 97 long barrel. Shoots .22 short, long, long rifle interchangeably without adjustment. A beauty as well and so enjoyable to shoot. Breaks down for cleaning with only a coin. It a perfect companion to my Ruger stainless single six hand gun in ubiquitous.22 as well.

Owning one of these rifles I was amazed at the faults you pointed out. My rifle was manufactured early 2016 and I have to say, it didn't have any of the faults you pointed out. Bluing was perfect, fore-stock fitted brilliantly, etc, etc. The one thing I moaned about and not for long (I fixed it) was the (perceived) sharp edge around the handle. The other thing at the moment is that it costs me $A3.75 per shot, lol, while shooting it in. That'll change when I start reloading.... All in all, I love it, so do the local "Marlin knockers"...... Thanks for posting Hick, really enjoyed watching this. Cheers from downunder :)

So sad you Brits have given your gun rights away. I actually have never been a "gun" person myself but when they started talking about taking our gun rughts away I started buying firearms. I so believe that the population owning and bearing firearms is key to freedom and democracy. I will say that the loss of firearm owner ship will be loss here as well and it will be our demise.....

I've got some older Marlins and I know the Remlin era guns were very poor for fit/finish but they seem to be much better now when I handle them at gun shops. I'm glad to see them come back and with some new catalog offerings! Now if they would just bring back the levermatic....

It's a shame they killed off the 444 and I haven't heard anything about quality improvements. I think a lot of Marlin devotes are pissed off by the drop in quality when Remington bought Marlin. I have a 1982 444 Marlin with the MG barrel. It shoots better than my .30-06.

I recently acquired this same model through my local gunshop though it is one of the original JM models. The 45-70 is my all time favorite rifle cartridge and I have owned many over the last forty or so years. That big hunk of slow moving lead has never allowed a whitetail to take a single step after only one shot and back in the pre-Leverevolution days, when I exclusively used Rem. 300 grain SJHP ammo, my big old Maine moose walked only 50 feet or so before dropping using my old 1895SS. I did have one problem with my 1895 Cowboy model in that I tried to sight it in for close range work where most of my hunting shots tend to be between 20 to 50 yards. Sighting the iron sites in at 50 yards I couldn't get the hits any closer than about 6 inches high using the Hornady Leverevolution 325 grain ammo. While I was able to adjust my hold to overcome that problem I instead chose to mount and sight in a scope to compensate for that and it's now a tack driver. Your new model certainly didn't seem to have that same problem! Have you heard of this being a common issue? The octagon brl and that 9 round magazine capacity won't let me loosen my grip on this rifle either way, lol.

I have a vintage 45/70 CB and a Guide Gun (ported) and love it. I also had the CB in 45LC just like your but made early/mid 2000's. Sent it back to Marlin (not Freedom group- Marlin) 3 time due to blueing issues, fit and finish and issue with excessive lead'n. After sending it back twice for the lead'n issue a friend did mold of the chamber and the forcing cone was cut almost at 90deg with a sharp transition. Called Marlin (pre FG or Remlin as it has been called) and they stated the chamber was "with in spec's". I traded it off shortly after that. I now have a Henry Steel Big Boy in 45LC which shoot amazingly well. The point agrees with your statement about Marlin's production, QC and customer service going down hill in its last years before Freedom Group acquired them. I am glad to hear the functionality is now there on the FG Marlin's but until they get there fit and finish QC squared away, I think I will be buying Henry's.
@nokoolaid
@nokoolaid 7 лет назад
The Henry's are neat, but I don't like how they load. It's a little clumsy. I'd rather have a side port.
@palerider7171
@palerider7171 7 лет назад
James Lagnese Side port is nice and if I could have one with both at an affordable price I would have went that route. For the 45LC I see the tube feed as an advantage when loading from the empty state. I going to get pvc and fashion a speed loader tube. The only disadvantage is loading on the fly which a loading port gives you. As for the 45/70 Henry I am a little turned off that the capacity is not equivalent to the Marlin SBL or GBL. The Marlin's (Remlin's) boast a 6+1 while the Henry is only 4+1 with a full length tube. That's the same as my late 90's Guide Gun with a 3/4 length tube. Haven't quite got that one figured out yet.
@nokoolaid
@nokoolaid 7 лет назад
My 444 is 4+1. I never considered it a handicap. One neat gun I saw was a guy that bought a Marlin Cowboy in 38-55 and converted it to 444, so it has the long mag tube and he had tiger stripe maple used for the stocks. It's beautiful.

I really enjoy watching your videos I've been thinkin about getting myself a 45-70 for deer hunting which one would you prefer I'm stuck between two choices I've been looking at the cowboy model that you show on this video or the guide gun from one of your other videos I'm just wondering which might be the better option did you see much performance in accuracy with the cowboy model seeing that it has a 26 inch barrel as compared to the 18inch barrel the guide gun has also most of my shots are usually taken under 200yards I'm just wondering if I should save a lil more and get the cowboy model or not if it would be worth the extra 150dollars

It's AR500, so even .308, .30-06, 5.56, 8mm Mauser, etc. do very little damage to it. At 75 yards, which is a bit closer than recommended, they last about a year, generally, before I hammer them to death.

I use to have one of these and loved it. Looked up the serial number of mine, said it was made in 2007 in Connecticut a few years before the whole remlin debacle. With 9 rounds of 45-70 in the tube it's a hillbilly battle rifle! With the 26" barrel 45-70 ammo is not going to go any faster. Yet very easy to handle and not as big as you would think it would be, altho a bit nose heavy when fully loaded. Put a Skinner peep sight on it and it was good.

Earlier this year I bought a new 1895cba cowboy from buds with the shorter 18.5" octagon barrel. Love it! The finish on the receiver was lacking but the barrel had the high gloss as well. The stock fit a bit better then that one but I didn't like the grain either. Didn't take too much to shine up the furniture though and give it a little gloss so wasn't a terrible problem. Such a handy short rifle with a ton of power but still has the cowboy look with the octagon barrel.
