Greetings, everyone! Welcome to The Commander Tavern! I am Demented Kirby and this is the final episode of the second season of one of the series on this channel, The Brewery. This series is all about brewing and deck techs - hopefully showcasing the spiciest of brews!
This episode of The Brewery is in honor of the Lunar New Year! So in honor of the Year of the Rat I made a deck tech of the best rat tribal commander of all: Marrow-Gnawer! This deck is a straightforward, easy to pilot aristocrats deck that aims to use self-sacrificing creature for value. thank you for putting this out there. so many deck lists for marrowgnawer include +20 relentless rats and/or rat colony. my deck started with my box and binder so i have most of the flavor rats then a bunch of powerful black spells. this list is more along the lines of where ive been taking my decklist, thanks for many great ideas.

Thanks! Glad I was able to be helpful! Yeah, I tend to try and brew my own decks without falling too much into the traps of how others play the decks. Marrow Gnawer is one of those cases where it can do so much better than just a Relentless Rats / Rat Colony deck.

Really cool deck! I was really disappointed in that Mad Ratter was printed as a red creature. I'm not sure if I missed it or not but is Swarmyard in this deck?

Thanks! Yeah, I don't know why Mad Ratter was red... D'oh! You're right! Don't know how I could've missed Swarmyard! No, it's not in the video, but I'll definitely update the decklist later to include it.

I was about to start building a Marrow Gnawer deck last year but then Yawgmoth came and took all my black aristocrat stuff. Still sometimes I get the urge to still make Marrow Gnawer.

Oberon D'Argo You can probably still build Marrow-Gnawer but make it more rat-tribal focused and aggro if you want a different strategy from aristocrats since you already have that with Yawgmoth.

also I wouldn't put more than one (or even one) creature board wipe in this deck. it'd be better (in my opinion) to add single creature removal, like murder, for flyers or creatures that are a big pain or mass removal, like nev disk or o stone. Typically you wouldn't want mass creature removal that wipes your creatures if you're running creature heavy decks like this one. Now "In Garruk's Wake" would be an amazing addition to this deck. Otherwise very focused and fun looking deck!

Thanks! Glad you liked it! I know it seems like shooting yourself in the foot running boardwipes but you have no guarantee that yours is the biggest boardstate at the table. So if it's better to reset the table than lose, at least a couple of boardwipes could come in handy.

@@TheCommanderTavern yeah, it seems like this deck can recover pretty easily. Like I said it's just my opinion. In certain situations I can definitely see a full creature wipe would be good. Plus you'd get a lot of triggers for dark prophecy, Liliana, erebos, ect. But yeah I really do like this deck tech.

@@Crowsbane4 I love including obscure cards in my decks that make them work and function even better. Playing for so long has made me familiar to plenty of gems in the game :P

so it's def not a budget deck, there's like 10 $20 cards, 5 $40 cards, and like a couple $250 cards
