Mary Berry explores the wonderful world of simple comfort food, bringing fuss-free recipes that can warm the cockles and lift the spirits.
For many of us, nothing hits the spot quite like those dishes that evoke memories of home. Whether it is recreating family favourites, keeping traditions alive or celebrating with festive feasts, this is the food that makes us feel safe and sound.
In this episode, Mary is off to explore how different families use food to create their own wonderful sense of home.
Mary meets a father-and-daughter team who have taken their home cooking to the streets with their own food van and a family who have created a slice of Sicily in north London.
Mary spends a magical day and evening with a family celebrating Diwali, helping them to prepare the feast and decorate the home. And Mary also makes some of her own family favourites, including a hearty bolognaise bake with a burrata and heritage tomato salad, paneer and roast vegetable curry, roast chicken with melting onions, and a wild bramble mousse.

Lets do a TOP 5 LIST IN ORDER of Who is the best TV Chef ... The most TV friendly... For me it is either Mary B or Jamie O Mary is coming up 86.. Yet she has TV elegance and a great voice over voice as well as talking to camera engagement. Although she sounds quite posh she is for everybody.. Jamie who is not posh can communicate and engage also... They both understand how to allow a little space for us to follow.. Who are your Top 5 TV Chefs Mine is Jamie Oliver Mary Berry Slater Hairy Bikers and Lorraine Pascal...not Fanny Cradock.. who was in control of TV in those days?

Shame supermarkets don't work to same metrics Mary does. 675g of mince in a country that sells it in 500g or 800g packs. Yes you could go to a butchers, but most closed down years ago due to supermarkets.
@LauraBidingCitizen
@LauraBidingCitizen 3 года назад
Eh?! I have about 7 butchers in my small area alone, that excludes our market butchers every Thursday & the farmers markets 1 Saturday every month. I’d suggest using google to find your local butchers because there’s plenty still around, just not the ones *you* remember.. Failing that (as evidently you can’t be arsed & prefer to have a good moan!) - use a bit of common sense & just use 500g. Less meat won’t kill you.
@paulgray1318
@paulgray1318 3 года назад
@@LauraBidingCitizen Good for you - I don't and live inside the M25. Nearest is 5 miles away so bus alone cost more than 1kg of mince from supermarket with 5 less than a 12 minute walk away :\.
@LauraBidingCitizen
@LauraBidingCitizen 3 года назад
Paul Gray I grew up on a dairy farm in the middle of nowhere (& no buses!), had to rely on Friday only shops & that’s when we’d go to the butchers. Have you ever looked at online butchers? They obviously can’t give you exact weights of meat but they deliver to your door, if you have the room to freeze the meat it’s so much more cost effective & better quality than buying from a supermarket! I’ve purchased from muscle foods before (the meat), & I highly recommend Donald Russell - im a pig (lol) with my sausages etc, had 2 on a bbq at a friends place & I was STUFFED! The meat content is absolutely insane, amazing quality! Far pricier than muscle foods but there are voucher codes, & if you can go in with a friend or family member.. so worth it! But if a recipe calls for a specific amount don’t worry, just use the 500g, you can always use extra veggies or just leave as is :) they’re just rough estimates.

@pollyanna1112 2 года назад
I’m not keen on onions either + usually omit them from recipes but I appreciate that they do add to the flavour. At times I’ll add onion salt, onion powder, or real onion but in a much smaller quantity than suggested and I make sure it’s chopped insanely small or finely grated so that you can barely tell it’s in there. Often in a recipe such as this, adding a teeny tiny bit adds to the flavour overall without bringing with it the side effects to the body
