I'm with you all the way, too many talentless Bro Country artists today singing meaningless songs ! I'm singing all these songs at karaoke and keeping the songs and memories alive! All the best from Adelaide South Australia with love ! ❤❤❤❤❤
I wonder the same thing. I really miss this sound of real country music on the radio and CMT. I heard a recent song the other day by some talentless artist and just shook my head in disgust
She's not trying to be cool, she's not trying to look sexy or dance like a moron.. This is just awesome, classic country music. Glad these songs will never die.
look!!!........im a man and Mary was the inspiration behind all of my artwork!!!........and I'm doing my first international tour of my Devine famine art ......mary is one of the true geniuses in music of all kinds........she can do it all.........sings like a bird!..........plays awesome guitar.........and is now in the country music songwriters hall of fame...........she is it!!!..........and there will never be one again like her.........ENJOY!!!.........for she is gods gift to the universe!...............................matthewericsonphotography.com
It's been 30 odd years since this was in heavy rotation on TNN. I fell in love with her look, her songwriting, her style.....everything. I ordered the CD, almost played it to pieces, called local county stations and URGED them to play this future SUPERSTAR. They utterly ignored me. Vindication proved sweet.
Mary Chapin Carpenter. She can single handedly whoop the asses of many of these so called "country" artists today. Total class act, great songwriter. Miss you Mary Chapin...
Dave Jones, thank you! Country Music has changed so much, it seems to me that artists like Mary Chapin Carpenter got shoved off to the side. She is a brilliant songwriter, one of the best in my opinion!
Probably the best song of an incredible career, that somehow despite all the success, never really got to where it looked like it was going to reach....co-written with her awesome producer John Jennings.....I have never tired of listening to it
This song has everything, it's a great story song, its lyrics are relatable, and it's got a melody that between Mary Chapin Carpenter's voice, and the band behind her it blazes like a fire. She's written so many great songs it's impossible to pick a handful but this one's a big favourite of mine. Well done Mary!!!
Robert, Love MCC for many years, but never knew this song. My new favorite. The music is upbeat, the emotion is downbeat. You are so right: the band is on FIRE. Peace.
PLEASE COME AND JOIN THE MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER FACEBOOK PAGE. COME AND CONTRIBUTE ANY VIDEOS, PHOTOS AND STORIES YOU MAY HAVE ABOUT OUR LADY CHAPIN!! THANK YOU!!!!
WOw, 32 years ago. I was 26 when this was out and though MCC , with that 80s hairstyle, was the cutest , most talented newer singer out back then. Never got tired of this video.
This is my favorite Mary Chapin Carpenter song. My favorite line in this song is, "When she burns you again and your phone doesn't ring--Bay-bee, it's me." ROTF. We miss you, Mary Chapin Carpenter!!!!
Saw her live in Melbourne Australia with my husband in the 90's, absolutely fabulous show, no bells and whistles, just MCC--her voice and guitar and minimal backing.
You wonder why songs like this that are brilliantly written and performed do not reach that number one slot on the charts. She is one of the best! I met her in the early 1990's on Capitol Hill. She was so friendly and talked to me like I was her best friend! Very nice! I don't listen to country music that often, but certain songs like this you just can't help but listen to!
When this song came out I instantly was a fan... what talent..beauty.. All of her songs are as special as the next. I so wish her all the best and All the happiness she deserves
This song is so fitting on so many levels.. when you have a cheating spouse, it's like rubbing their nose in it... Been there, done that, got that hat, T-shirt and socks. Burned them all.
I remember it fondly. None of the gang of stoops ever heard of it. It got me through a very difficult relationship I relationship. Life can get real hard for a man as well. Thank you ,Mary. Yours truly,Donovan Lee Olson Jr. Keep up the good work.
My first introduction to MCC came when this song came on the radio. I've been hooked ever since. next year I will be 30 years since i heard this song. Wow!
***** thanks, Bradley. It was Austin City Limits back in '89...two exceptional talents...Mary Chapin Carpenter and Garth Brooks. My first venture into 'country/country-rock'. I'm an old 60's/70's guy who hung around long enough to enjoy a little 'moon-walking' and a 1985 piece called 'We Are The World'...then got away for a while, particularly from the rock-ish stuff. thanks for the re entry ACL! Hope to see MCC this year in Cape Cod.
This song brings back many memories. My first year of college staying behind in the facility long after school hours for my choir. Walking the empty halls and getting some food out of the vending machine...and listening to this song over the intercom speakers. Seemed like it always was on every week. Loved it and fell in love with MCC especially when she did '10,000 Miles' for 'Fly Away Home'
There's not a single song MCC has written that I don't like. She pours her heart and soul into every single one of them. My only regret is that for the last 20+ years, I've been so busy working and raising children that I lost track of her. Trying to make up for lost time quickly. Love her and her music!
Amazing! I seen her in concert a number of times, my dad loves her. This song has always been one of my favorites. She has so many great songs! What a legend❤️
Young here...love her singing. Latest album "Dirt and Stars " beautiful lyrics, her guitar playing is amazing, Her voice is a bit deeper, but just as pure...the best 👌
I just have to come back to this song now and then; borrowed the tape from a friend back in '91 (State of the Heart album) and kept rewinding to this song..."Quittin' Time was good, too. Have liked this video since I first saw it; Mary truly looks hurt, and I want to give her a hug.
This song, MIDDLE GROUND and YOU WIN AGAIN really told my story in the 90s. I am sure this is true of so many women of my generation. She is a brilliant song writer.
Her folks were her best supporters .just one more example of how powerful love is .right is never wrong .crazy vocal control .that was mom working her up the scale at 4 yr old
Just be yourself. Live your best for God. He's the only one you really can please with your life and love. Be who He made you to be. Love this song...pray to our great God. He knows this tune better than anyone. Be yourself ! Don't allow anyone to take away the love in your heart. This is a beautiful song by a woman with a beautiful voice.
Mary I'll will listen to you always. Me and my wife absolutely love you. I don't care what these people say. Negative thoughts is not in the dictionary in my book. All positive. You will always be in my hall of fame. Love ya
I have loved her since I discovered her in early 1992 and then went back and got her previous albums (on cassette...I was kid at the time). Loved this one when I heard it! I heard in an interview that she said she had the flu when they filmed the video and she felt awful.
Great song, I have always loved her writing and singing. She was very under rated. She can capture that moment well within her lyrics. I miss her on the radio!
