Such a beautiful lady with the voice of an Angel. My Husband died recently & this version of the song will be played at his funeral. If only there were more singers today like Mary Hopkin, you can hear & understand every word she sings. Just Beautiful.
I am American so forgive me if I am wrong, but Mary Hopkin seems to embody the spirit of Britain. A soul of compassion and of strong will.The world owes much to the will and compassion of the British spirit.
The Byrds did the definitive version of this song but Mary's take on it is a very fine runner-up; it's an excellent song whoever sings it. And may it never be too late for there to be a time of peace.

I can remember learning this piece at a church girls auxiliary that we sang during a service one Sunday. Because the particular Anglican church I went to was pretty stiff about following the proper service guidelines it was quite a thing to do. It a beautiful piece.

I best remember her as Lirazel in Peter Knight and Bob Johnsons album "The King of Elfland's Daughter" based on the novel by Lord Dunsany. There were quite a few other notable people on that album too.
