Thankful to Andre Harrell (R.I.P) and Jeff Redd for bringing this unique soulful singer to the forefront. She has been unstoppable ever since 1991. Love my MJB!
When you can take a classic. And make it your own you are truly an artist.Mary J. Blige is the truth. She has grace, pose, and she commands the stage.Bow to The Queen Of Hip Hop Soul Mrs.Mary Jane Blige
@ 5:01 mary even gave her badass self goosebumps with that one man!!! what she delivered that night is a feeling i thought only patti and the late whitney could deliver. breathtaking!
Why are so many people criticizing Mary's performance and her vocals? I think she poured her heart and soul into this one. Mary is an emotional vocalist, and she killed it with her vocals on this classic song!
I've said it once, and now I say it again, Erma Franklin is the originator of this song. Janis Joplin placed her special touch to this classic, and she did her deed to it, but when Mary J. Blige put her foot into this track, the life she breathed into it simply cannot be denied nor compared. Mary J Blige cannot be disputed nor refused. If you ever question the authenticity of real music, just tune into Mary. She's the "Real Deal" no questions asked. "I love you Mary J Blige"!!!
Oh for corn flakes! & Stop that fork-tongued fibbin’! Micheal Heath! Now the truth of the matter is MarlllI fart out prettier songs than Old haggard rougher than raw fishscales Miss Mary J. Bitgch
miss Mary sang her as off on piece of my heart he'll yeah I really appreciate diversity in an artist ,just like Tina Turner ,rock music is the bomb too, where would American music be without it hallelujah ,yes hallelujah because every good and perfect gift comes from the life giver up above once again thank you Mary ,you made me a very proud black man, and thank you jesus for the gift you gave to our sister and daughter miss Mary j blige, yes suh!........
From Erma to Janis to Melissa to Mary - amazing how one song can be performed so differently and taken so differently from person to person. No need to compare them for me. I love them all.
I grew up listening to Janis Joplin my mom LOVED her! I just so happened to look Mary up performing this song and I'm so glad she did I knew she would SING THE SHIT OUT of this song!!!! Love Mary
There really is no need to compare Janis and Mary they different singers, Mary will tell you that Janis inspires her listen to some of hr other songs. I love this version, she went off and showed destiny's child that you don't have to dress like a hoochie to get a crowd to love you. Sorry, love you Bee, but it's true.
The main ingredient of this song's lyric is raw emotion and that absolutely can't be faked. A life of suffering and deep sadness should come through the singer's wailing cries. Words alone can't describe the pain & suffering women are put through. Mary J. Blige is truly feeling it, making any man want to treat his woman right. To me, that's what this song is about and I can feel it.
This is the best version of this song I have found because everyone else who covers it seems to think that they have to have raspy vocals and excessive screaming.
Stink is NOWHERE near more famous than Mary, period! Mary is a LIVING LEGEND and a WORLDWIDE superstar that has sung with almost EVERY singer from a to z and has 9 Grammys to Stinks 1! Mary WILL go down in HISTORY! Stink WONT!
I never saw this, wow! Mary did it right! Janis would be right there standing proud. So many singers try to imitate Janis and it does not work. It is like when some singers try to imitate Nina Simone's classic Feeling Good; when they get to the scat they fall apart. This was a genuine interpretation- Great.
Mary J. "rippt" this song! I LOVE IT! She went in at the in on "Take it"! She is so far the best on this,... along with Janis Joplin and Faith Hill! But Mary won me over,... Totally! Forget what the rest of y'all sid and say! She delivered this like a true Rockstar, baby, ya heard m'? HATS OFF! She had to have studied Janis version coz it's so similar! PLATINUM SINGLE if she ran it!
OMG!! ok, so i guess i'm like 3 yrs late on this 1 but i never saw this b4!! mary is my faaaaaaaavourite girl & she smashed this song! i love how she kept it raw (a la janis joplin) but she still put the NYC up in there, i was actually screamin & clappin like i was in the front row hahahaha. love u mary!!
Mary takes songs and makes them her own. Not that the originals were bad or anything, she just adds her own unique touch and makes it a whole new song. Check out her duet with U2 on "One" - same thing, great song but she brings something different to it. Rock on, Mary, you're the greatest!
Mary KILLED this joint literally...........I don't care what nobody says she made this song her OWN!!!!! And I have heard the original and sorry for all the Joplin fans and no disrespect BUT Mary did her thing wit this one and let's not 4get Janis was a white soul songer who screamed off key as well her music was dubbed rock but Janis Joplin sung pure soul music...
And now listen to the original version of Piece of my heart from 1967 by Erma Franklin. And the Janis Joplin version of 1968. Both outstandingly good and never equalled
Mary did that!! they couldnt pic anybody else to sing Janis Joplin song but mary raw soul i love this women her voice take me back home my favorite part is when she says Take it real loud at the end (goose bumps) lol i love every bit... -Queen-
To the person who hates Joplin, have you heard "One Good Man". Surprises me that anyone could not like that song. Mary showed up for this performance. I wish I had that good of a time at my job.
I feel that Janis would LOVE this, Ive always loved Mary and shes one of the BEST from my generation. Shes just,,,,fabulous beyond words. But this,,,,this is really awesome. She did her own thing with it - as Janis did. She made if fantastic and Mary is one of our treasures. i dunno what else to say. Thank you x ~"Jen"
Just got my MJ Quick with it SQUAT session in, started getting in form at 5:06 ten seconds later super quick with it squats began... my thighs look great, and my front kicks have never been better!! To hell with billy blanks I'm on the MaryJBlige thunder thighs plan, I slay at every age just like the Queen herself! Now take it!!!!!!!
Shoot, I LOVE Janis, and Mary J sang the heck out of this song. I wish she'd put out an album of this kind of stuff. It's great to hear her rock. I think she did awesome.
