What a strangely ordered, almost regimented version...a little acoustically flat and with a very quiet and seated (!) audience. Yolanda's vocals however easily push this one into the 'unique' category - simply superb!
Rakesh Reddy Nah, this song is not supposed to be loud and be sung with so much soul, it’s supposed to be very mellow, dark, and haunting, with the background music beats, which only Hope Sandoval, the original singer can create. Okay effort though.
@@Makilock1 I’m going to let massive attack decide what the song is supposed to sound like rather than some rando on the internet stating their opinions as facts.
Yes. Hope Sandoval was not the first performer of this song. It was named as “Harpsichord” at first and was performed by Yolanda Quartey. Later, in 2010 the version by Hope Sandoval, renamed as “Paraduse Circus” was featured in the album “Heligoland”.
This song can only be sung by the original singer, Hope Sandoval. It’s supposed to be haunting, dark, and mysteriously sexy. This version is okay, but it loses the original mystery and dark tone, it’s not supposed to be sung loud and with so much soul, it’s supposed to be sung by Hope Sandoval with her unique style, so I give it a thumb down. That’s the bad thing about Massive Attack, they don’t have a permanent singer, and when someone else tries to sing a song that no one else can sing, it loses its magic,
It's a matter of taste and mood.)) I mostly prefer this one. Oh and Hope Sandoval was not the first performer of this song. It was named as “Harpsichord” at first and was performed by Yolanda Quartey. Look at the year of the live. Later the version by Hope Sandoval was featured in the album (“Heligoland”) of the band and that’s why it's considered as “original”.
Wether Sandoval was the original singer or not, her unique vocals gave the piece it's unique haunting quality . Although well sung it just lacks subtlety here and becomes more generic.
Well I'm not gonna take part in a discussion - which version is better)) When I loaded this video up, i just wanted this version to become more popular in public.
Jeff Coudert Yes, that’s exactly right! She has a great voice, it just doesn’t fit well with this specific song, and I’m sure Hope could never reproduce anything that was meant for Ms Quartey’s powerful vocals and style.
