Finally, Charles is back. 💕 I wonder if they were going thru trial runs with the others who sat in his seat. That was one of their success choices, to be a regular, CNR! 🥰🎉
According to a 1975 interview with Ira Skutch, they initially never intended to have regular celebrities. Richard was the only one who was signed on for more than a week at the beginning (I recall reading his agreement was a month) and that was just to draw viewers to a new show. As the show progressed, Ira quickly learned that a casting approach would make the show stronger, and they signed Brett. It is why we saw her being moved around to different seats to see where her "character" would work best. Per that same interview, Ira said Charles was the third and final person given a long-term contract to be on the show just before this week's episodes and he was put into that third seat because Brett's "character" worked best to set up Charles "character". So there was no trial, Ira knew Charles was the best person for that seat. He was just waiting for Charles to be available for a long-term commitment.
I love Charles Nelson Reilly and I so love Gene Rayburn, he was so handsome and witty and so much more. 🥰😍 Rest in peace both of you wonderful guys I adore you still 😘😘!!!!
Time for some notes! First up it's the only week of actress Beverly Garland. Her credits up to this point include "Decoy" (the first American police drama with a female in the lead role) and "My Three Sons", along with appearances in "The Twilight Zone", "The Lone Ranger", "Rawhide", "Danger Man", "Dr. Kildare", "The Fugitive", "Gunsmoke", "The Wild Wild West", "Here's Lucy", "Mannix" and "Marcus Welby MD" (her CV, or a resumé as you call it, reads like a history of American television!). She would later appear in "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman", "Remington Steele" and "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" opposite former Charlie's Angel and fellow Match Game guest Kate Jackson. Around this time Garland also entered into the hotel business with her husband, running a hotel in Hollywood, which bears her name to this day! Garland died in 2008 at the age of 82. It's the welcome return of Nipsey Russell in his fourth week, Betty White in her eighth week, and Charles Nelson Reilly in his seventh week... and as the title suggests, from this week onwards, he's now a regular on the show sat next to Brett, or "Susan" as he'd call her. As of February 2018, Betty White is the last surviving panelist. Now on to technical notes - in a couple of episodes this week, as has been observed on the next episode, Gene forgets to put his Sony ECM-51 wand back in its holder when the stage revolves back from the Super Match, and only replaces it during the ad break. A sign of things to come...
I enjoyed Beverly as Barbara, the Douglas family matriarch on My Three Sons, during its final 3 yrs. on CBS. Of course, she was also friends with fellow TV mother, Florence Henderson from The Brady Bunch!!! Both Beverly and Florence are still missed, today- R.I.P.!!!
Looks haven't changed - just hairstyles and makeup. The producers only chose (with few exceptions) beautiful, fit, young women as contestants on this show. And the panelist this week were camera-friendly (and quick-witted) actresses.

Poor Gene with a sore throat and a couple of strange edits again.. Hmm Looks like the equipment was really for holiday early.. ;0) Still a good episode thou.. ;0) Wonder if he is sick all week..
@@karenleemallonee684It was banter. Some of the most hilarious and chaotic moments on the show came when Charles and Brett would go back and forth, or when Betty White and Fannie Flagg would return fire after Brett made fun of them. I.E. Fannie Flagg saying that Hollywood's famous Chinese Theater wanted her to "put my dear friend Brett's mouth in wet cement."
ROFL! Another fine episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! :0) ROFL! Love ya Charles! :0) ROFL! Love ya Betty! ;0) Little early on the music guys.. ;0) Oh well I think it is part of the charm of the show, nothing was running perfectly every episode.. ;0) Teddy bear?? Sandwich! ;0) Let me introduce you to my sleeping pill.. ;0) seat? Only show that peas get a hand.. ;0) Proof that Brett does hear the questions more than she acts like she does.. ;0) I push my button all the time and nothing happens.. ;0) LOL! The first tie breaker questions went down instead of the round 2 one. ;0) Poor Gene is sick and nothing works on the set.. ;0) Gene's cup on lower tier. ;0)
Probably because Adam-12 was a huge hit television show at the time, and the religious right hadn't gotten its stranglehold on a certain political party yet.
Adam 12 was a good, long-running example of what is today called a procedural police drama. Recommended viewing frrely available on internet. My answer would have been Adam West and I would have scored a big fat zero.
