Patti was a sharp-as-a-tack wit. Not only does she have a hilarious comeback to the milk query, but she says it almost before Gene is done talking. It's possible that this was the moment she secured her long run on the show.

Well Patti had gone to school with Gene's daughter Lynne and probably already knew Gene well enough to have a quick wit comeback ready at any moment when she was around him.. ;0) Now I can't figure out if it was college or high school.. ;0) She said couple of times that Gene and her got way back.. ;0)

@@sdlively27 I read that in Gene's bio, but I'm dubious. Lynne was a year older, for one thing. For another, Patti was only at Carnegie for one year. They could have been classmates and not even known one another.

Patti Deutsch 1943-2017 Notice that Patti started in what later became known as the infamous "bimbo slot", but was good enough to be brought back and placed in the slot that Betty White and Fannie Flagg, most notably, often sat in.

Fannie Flagg started in the "bimbo slot" too. It's funny that the "bimbo slot" matches more than the coveted female comedian spot.

They hadn't really established that order by the time of this episode. If you watch the part at the end where they say who will be playing next time you see Loretta Swit as the last one, meaning she's probably headed for the bottom right rather than the bottom left.

This took place after the "quiz show scandals". The networks were "running scared", and their answer to all that BS was to limit the prize(s) - instead of policing the ranks, and getting rid of the scoundrels, they thought this would quell the uproar, and the low ratings they were getting for "quiz shows", as evidence by the "chinzy" gifts/prizes (i.e. "toaster ovens"???!!???)

Inflation is an inevitable byproduct of any market economy. Its main driver is growth in the production of goods and services, amplified by population growth and the system of fractional reserve banking that has been the backbone of our economic system since the 1700s. Indeed, unless we want the government to have absolute control over pricing and production, inflation is strictly required for a stable economy. In the grand scheme of things, politicians and governments have actually done a pretty good job at keeping the highly complex issue of inflation in check, and the few cases where they've screwed up bad are mostly limited to third-world countries and situations where the economy has already collapsed.

Richard didn't drink, he drank coffee althou some said he did in MG101. Gene told Brett, in 702, that he didn't drink because of a rotten liver and had a ongoing med condition but it is said in TMGR that he cut back drinking in the 80's, this was written after Gene's and Helen's death.
