As garbage as that last minute red card on Bernier was, there no doubt should've been a penalty a few minutes earlier, so the awfulness of the ref was even in the end.
not to mention the fact that Montreal was stomping and clipping TFC heels, shins and toes all night. Gantar is a bad ref has always been a bad ref. It is disgraceful. The Red Card I think was purely because it happened so many times during the game and the players had enough and went at him while still pissed about the penalty call. it was a bad call to make up for a bad call which gave TFC the game. It shouldn't have happened. A good ref would have kept the game more civilized than it was and what happened at the end wouldn't have happened. It was all the ref.
Just happened to be channel surfing when I heard the intensity of the crowd. Wow! Way to go Toronto from way out west. That's how you show your support. That's the type of game to make the whole country big soccer fans. This type is the of night that will be huge for the sport of soccer in this country.
What a finish. Always exciting to be at BMO when we beat Montreal! Loved the tifo reminding them of the Eastern Conference Final. Reffing was undoubtedly atrocious. Montreal was lucky they didn't lose a man on that body check on Beitashour. He played the man and it definitely endangered the safety of the player. The no call on the penalty for Seba was just ridiculous. And I think the red on Bernier was excessive too. That should have been a yellow. But the ref let the game get out of his control so it's his fault. Ultimately the better team won. Montreal is last in the east so they didn't deserve to be Canadian Champs this year. I'm excited to see how we do in CONCACAF next year. We've got a team that should be able to compete.
As a Juve fan, the moment i read about Toronto bought Seba i was like "Ah he's gonna be a club legend there." Even among Juve's front along the years, among the likes of Del Piero, Trezeguet, Vucinic, Iaquinta, Toni, Quagliarella and Matri, Seba always had a special place as 'the young ones' along with Marchisio. There's no question Gantar was shit, and that red card was terrible. But to people saying he handed the game to Toronto - you need to explain the failure to give the PK to Giovinco, which we can be 95% certain he would have converted. The right team won, even if it was on the "wrong" play. They should have sealed the victory five minutes earlier.
Props to Montreal for giving our boys all they could handle which only helps intense the rivalry...sadly all talk is based on refs which is warranted :(
lol how? It took you guys 8 years to make the playoffs and have a decent team while we qualified 3 times in our first 5 seasons. Even with one of the best rosters in the MLS you guys can't even win the MLS cup and struggle to beat the team who's ''in your shadow''. They initially added 3 minutes because of all MTL's fake injuries and timewasting, and then there was time added because of the time wasted after the red card, fight and waiting for the free kick. You can see in the video Bernier makes the tackle at around 88:45, and by 90:00 he isnt even off the pitch yet. That's just good refereeing to add that time back on. He let TFC continue an attack at 94:15, that extra 1:15 is actually less than the time that was wasted for the red card. Either way it's not like the game was going to end, it was going to ET so there's no incentive for the referee to give TFC unwarranted extra time like the whiny Impact fans are making conspiracy theories about. Jt AA know the minutes added are random usually in a final if a team is attacking over the amount of stoppage time they let play go on until the attack has stopped or at least 30 seconds have passed over the additional time then there's time wasting time that's added to the additional time as well therefore the match would have gone near the 95th minute
I was in the game and behind me were some Montreal fans and were making fun of us at 1-0 but then we got the last laugh as we said our goodbyes to them when they exited BMO field first
lets get 1 thing straight THAT RED CARD WAS FAIR. moments before there should of been a penalty and a red card . neither was given. . Ref simply chose the best time. Next foul. also Altidore was taken down from the back that should of been an automatic red. nothing was given .

of course they're going to run to the ref angry when they just got denied a clear penalty at a crucial moment a minute before. keep in mind this is a referee that has traditionally made terrible gamechanging calls against TFC for 3-4 years. Him and Elfath are the 2 referees TFC players and fans hate
This is much much much better than the awful US Open Cup. All 3 Canadian clubs should join CPL because they deserve more respect than being dragged down by shitty MLS. MLS is a joke in the world and Canada DOES NOT DESERVE THIS.
