Jesus involves Peter in paying a tax they do not owe, so as not to offend the Temple Tax Collectors. By going out of their way to pay this tax they have the God-given right to not pay, Jesus and Peter protect the Tax Collectors from being offended with them; thereby protecting them from offence that could lead to sin or offence that could prevent them from hearing Jesus' message of the Kingdom. With Jesus, Christians need to be careful in exercising their God-given rights and freedoms in such a way, so as not to be responsible for causing offence in others that might lead them to sin, or hinder them from hearing our Gospel message.
