Matthias came to us through our April buyout program with a leg wound, so Dr Gina and Dr Lydia work together on removing dead tissue to help the healing process.
As always you both do everything you can to help these abused giants. He knew kindness and caring from humans and his passing though sad was the best you could do. You are awesome and I appreciate everything you do for these horses.
Poor baby. I'm sorry to see such a wonderful horse go away, but he no longer suffers. I always imagine them all going to a place of green pastures where they eat sweet grass, roll, romp and play with other horses while drinking from clear fresh water streams to drink their fill. I'm so thankful for the wonderful Doctors and helpers who take such good care of them and do all they can for them. God bless you all.
How sad that after this surgery Matthias’s health went downhill. A great vet team effort to clean up the wound. I’m really enjoying these Vet care videos. Dr Lydia and Dr Gina work well together. 😊😊
Oh my, what a gorgeous boy. You did the very best for him and it was beyond your control. The last act of kindness is kindness in his case and in many others you see who have been suffering.
Thank you for showing him love ❤️, you guys are the best. Your job is so heartbreaking at times, and you always do the best for the animals, thank you!
Run Matthias run the pastures over the rainbow 🌈 bridge are forever green, the water is sweet and clear. There are so many others there in Valhalla to become friends and to play with. Good bye sweet boy.
Every animal can only be given the best chance to improve, but when you know that they are going downhill, sometimes you have to step in and give them their wings it's sometimes the kinder way to go.😢😢 It's sad, but they are frightened or in pain. I thank you for all your care ❤️ ❤😢
Thank you all for what you did for Matthias. He had a better end to his life than he would have had he not been brought to you. Rest in Peace big man x
Dr Lydia, Dr Gina, Caitlin & Cory the dream team! It’s like watching a well oiled machine. He was a beautiful horse who deserved a good life but at least you gave him a dignified passing. Your efforts to save him speak volumes about Horse Plus xxxxxx
More and longer videos, please! I love learning the intricacies of the vet’s techniques and how to prep and clean the wounds. I’m going to go to school to become a vet assistant soon and I want to work with large animals. These videos are so helpful in learning what I can expect. If it’s possible, longer videos would be amazing!
Thank you guys for what you do❤ big old guy I feel sorry for him and horses like this to come in. My heart goes out to these horses. wow wow that’s some powerful drugs. You’re putting in the hours to drop him like that I’ve actually never seen anything like that.
Amazing Vets you ladies are! Your husband/wife assistant team of Cory and Caitlyn are pretty great too. Sure glad you're helping this big boy feel better. Sure glad you were able to get the hock radiographed too. Oh, man. How could this poor guy get EPM after as well as he was getting! So very sorry after all you did for him. I know you're all sad.
Marleys Mutts had a dog with severe burns that they brought into their rescue and treated with manuka honey. The healing with manuka honey was quite amazing. The dog's name was Jada. There are videos on Facebook of the pup's recovery in 2018. The wounds were full thickness.
Oh My Gosh! At least he had tons of love & care while he was with you. You know he felt that! You gave it your "all"! And he passed quietly & peacefully. 🥰
I really appreciate the explanations and the fact that you treat the horses as feeling beings with empathy for their quality of life no matter the heartfelt consequences of the decisions. 😢
Heartbreaking… if only his humans had looked after him in the first place 😭💔. You guys did all you could, he deserved the chance to live, but you were thwarted by something that should have been treatable in the early phase of the disease and it wasn’t taken care of 😭. God bless you for giving him a little time to be a happy horse before sending him over the Rainbow Bridge. Love this channel so much.
You all did the very best that you could for Matthias. We appreciate your work and support you 100%. Thank you Drs. Gina, Lydia and the HPHS medical team! ❤️❤️❤️ God bless ~ Jo
Number 711 to like the video. I could see his thought process of... "No, every time you talk nice and come by me, I get a poke.... I don't want a poke...". and then when he was half way done, he looked like a toddler saying..."I'm not tired... You can't make me sleep... Not tired!">>>> I was wondering if a sugar wrap would help?????? Hugs from Esquimalt
Ah jeez. Poor old darling. Neglect of such an adorable big sweetie 😢 I was real hopeful and i know you all were too ❤ PS Manuka honey on hot buttery toast is divine.(Kiwi staple)
Great work as usual. Question: would it not have been a good time to have the farrier out while he is down to begin to address his hoofs? Just wondering as he may or may not be trained for the stocks and your farrier might have been able to at least get started while he was sleeping. Just curious. Isn't this the draft that Dr. Lydia feel in love with as he came off the guy out trailer?
So very sad this disease was lurking in Mathias.. RIP gentle giant✨ ... Manuka honey is a superstar, glad you use. Have you ever considered vitamin C injections for immune boosts. Can horses ingest vitamin C? If so, that may be helpful to be used in the routines.
I am kind of shocked how common this is in the drafts. I watched another channel where they brought a draft colt home from auction and he had this. It wasn't a severe case and they raised the funds for the medicine and it appears to have worked mostly, but it was definitely touch and go. Poor Mathias. They all deserve better than that. At least he got kindness in the end.
I dont understand why these tests on him and Kalahari were not done before you operated on both of them. I just dont get it. We would not have had to go through all of the hope excitement love and operations.
Dr Gina/Lydia. This question sounds cold in the light that your lovely patient died (from unrelated[?] EPM) some days after the debridement procedure on his foreleg, but may I ask "was the leg wound starting to heal?"
Thank you for trying so hard!❤ And again I’m just so amazed by your team - I’ve attended hour long surgeries and never has a surgeon asked if everybody is still doing ok - so important for a healthy work environment 🫶🏻
