I am in the market for a new drone. What would you recommend between a mavic mini fly more combo 500eur or a second hand Mavic air fly more combo for 630 eur. Its great battery vs great features. Mavic mini has just a battery advantage (you can charge it via usb) but the air has so many features: active track, fly just with phone, extra quick shots, tap to fly... etc. THX
With the price being that close, I think I'd go for the mavic Air. the Air is still about 2x more expensive where I am so you're getting a good deal there. If anything you can sell the Air for the Mini later

Thanks! I think that main thing is that you're "legally" allowed to fly in more places with the Mini as opposed to any other drone even if they are registered because of that 249g weight. It just classifies it more as a toy than anything else
Mavic Mini wins to be honest in almost all the footage. The exposure slightly lower will pull back the colour in the sky etc, you had it a little too high with the whites way too blown out compared to the Air footage.
Thanks for the review! I personally belive that the Mavic Air isn't a good buy at the moment because it's 2 years old and a replacement is bound to happen soon, and the Mavic Mini is just too small for me. Both are great drones if you want to get into flying, the mavic mini being an entry level drone and the mavic air being a consumer level drone.
You def got a point about the Mavic Air being due for an update, but I'm curious why you would say the Mavic Mini is too small for you? Isn't smaller better, especially when it comes to a drone?
@@FrogyProd Sure, but I live in a very windy area, and from what I've seen the drone probably couldn't handle the high winds of where I live. As much as I agree that smaller can be better when it comes to drones, I really want a nice upgrade from my spark since i've had it 2 years, and I feel the mini is more for novices and kids 10-14 than for people who want to capture scenery at its finest.

It has the same restrictions as all the other drones I think. Actually maybe a little less because it is a smaller drone, but tbh I don't know, the Mini is my friends drone
So judging by many comparisons between them, the Mini has better footage as an instant outcome. Since the Mini has instant real footage it is better. Also in Air you just adjust it so it can look sharp and more real too instant in the app. And if someone wants any effect over the video from the Mini, well that is done in post-production.
yeah the Mini was designed to have great footage straight out of the camera, but the Air needs adjustments in post if you shoot in D-Cinelike (which i always do) However I feel if you were to use the Standard profile on the Mavic Air, it may look better than the Mini Footage without any adjusting
They are flying cameras, 1st. Drones 2nd. The mini is fun to fly, flies longer. The Air takes better photos, almost 10min less flight time, but has more crash avoiding sensors. Are you buying a drone to fly, or to take photos & videos?
@@FrogyProd but they both have the exact same size sensor no? isn't this just a case of "pixel pushing". I.e. no real extra information in terms of detail (but maybe so in terms of bit depth?).

At this point, go for the Mini. The signal is way better on it than the Air, and the 249grams means you should be able to fly it everywhere legally. The image quality will be good enough for what you're doing
I am a begginner I can get the mini for basically 400 or i can get the air fly more combo on sale for 700. Suggestions?...want to use for casual film. Also I am only considering the air cuz the deal but not sure if its worth it or if i need it
There will be a potential Mavic Air 2 announced this week, it's why they're all going on sale now. Wait on hat till we find out what this announcement will be

If you already have the Mini I wouldn't "upgrade" to anything. I think it's the best drone at the moment. Only Upgrade to a Mavic Air if you really need the better camera quality. Personally I don't have any interest in the Parrot drones so I don't know much about them
Yeah good call. I've flown my Mavic Air in Poland where there is also no need to register it but I wasn't getting as much distance as I get here in North America. I was able to push the drone 3.5km here but in Europe I was getting about 1.5km at best
FrogyProd I dont really know is there a problem with me but I couldnt send it over 500 meters and did you had fcc or europe standarts in poland?,I dont think there is a difference when youre using fcc in europe vs in america.
That's a really good price for a Mavic Air. All depends on if you want that better camera or less hassle of where you're allowed to fly it. In this case if they are the same price for you I might rather go for the Air and see how you like it and sell it for a Mini after if anything

Since you had a Mavic Pro before, I will warn you that the mavic air signal is really bad compared to the pro (because of occusync vs wifi). You’ll experience lag which might bother you. Since the Air was my first drone I just thought it was normal, but when I tried a friends mavic pro I was blown away how perfect the video signal was with zero lag. Just something to keep in mind
The Mini can't capture RAW images, which is a deal breaker for anyone serious about still photography. Also, I've not flown an Air, but the Mini really has a hard time when the wind picks up. I'm considering returning the Mini and getting an Air instead.
The Air can def handle winds better than the Mini (thanks to it's bigger size and weight) but at this point I would look into the Air 2. In my opinion no one should be going for the Air 1 at this point.. the signal is really really crap on it. With the Air 2 you will get Occusync 2 which is WAY better than the Wifi signal on the Air 1 and you'll get a way higher quality camera. If it's between the Mini and Air 1, stick to the Mini. You will be frustrated with the bad signal on the Air 1, even though it can handle winds better and the camera is better.

Nice review. Is there any good way to get the footage of the Mini to look like the Air? The video quality of the Mini does look too sharp and unnatural. I love the look of the Air but wish the Mini had it. Dilemma is I don’t want to spend double for the dated Mavic Air when surely a Mavic Air 2 might come out this year, yet I need a drone now. I’d go with the Mini but the video quality looks too hobby and amateur whereas the Air looks cinematic. If the Mini footage quality could get closer to the Air, I’d get it.
Ah man unfortunately you have zero control over the Mavic Mini image. Can't adjust contrast/sharpness or and log profiles. It just has that standard profile on it. It's rrally up to you what type of image quality you'll need so soon. I also think there will be a Mavic Air 2 sometime this year, but who knows when
Dude, you did your homework. A lot of facts ,great comparison and I agree with you Mavic mini is the way to go. The only real consequential difference I felt is the collision avoidance feature not being featured on the Mavic mini Just don't suck at flying.!good job froggy. By the way ,Great nickname.
Which one is $200 cheaper? I think at this point I would go for the Mini or the new Mavic Air 2. The original Mavic Air 1 just has such terrible signal transmission, it makes it not so fun to fly in certain areas (Super glitchy and laggy)
@@FrogyProd The mini combo is $400 and the Air Combo $600. Mini is less. Thank you I will probably go with the Mini since it is less and the Air 2 is too expensive at this time.
