That’s why Sephiroth has by far the best reveal trailer to date. I mean one shotting the final boss that wiped out 99% of the Smash Roster not counting DLC? That’s how you make an entrance!
I love the idea that Sephiroth isn't even trying to be a villain and trying to destroy the world anymore. He just wants to mess with Cloud and I'm OK with that.
I'm not an FF7 fan, but the second the music kicked in my heart stopped. It's like gamers are just trained to fear that song, that's how iconic and terrifying Sephiroth is
I can confirm this. I have not played FF7 all the way through, but when I heard the song I was like “have I heard this before? I know I’ve heard it somewhere.” And then friggin Sephiroth shows up and I start screaming!
I remember getting the movie when it first came out on dvd and I was working at Walmart at the time. Got off at 1130 that night bought the movie and went home and watched it and had to be back at work at 6am the next day. Completely worth it lol
Imagine if the presentation is just Sakurai watching the entirety of Advent Children, pausing the movie at times to add his own commentary. And honestly I'd be down for that.
@@TheDriver458 or just doing what you just said, for only the cloud vs sephiroth fight in Advent children :D That's why it's 35 minutes... Sakurai just had THAT MUCH to say about sephiroth's one fight in Advent children
Characters in the trailer: *Already hearing boss music* Galeem: "Why do I hear boss mus-" Characters in the trailer: "Why do we hear more boss music?" Cloud: "Why do I hear MY boss music?!"
"But he misses, so it's just like the game" Max's last minute effort to catch himself and not spoil might have actually spoiled saving Aerith in the remake.
@@thegoodmudkip3652 spoilers ahead Note:this is my heavily biased opinion some of my info is out of place so watch the ending yourself form your own thoughts on the matter if you don’t mind being spoiled and don’t want to read a guys salty opinion cause people jumped the gun and created their own head canon Short version: time travel shenanigans sparks debate on whether Zack survives or not which brings up whether aerith dies or not also vague info from a booklet does not confirm whether a character dies or not Long version: They did some fucky shit at the end of part 1 in my opinion was to both to have an excuse to have a final boss and to tease what’s going to happen in the next part But basically we must change the future type shiz and some characters didn’t die when in a novel it was confirmed they were but the devs if I remember correctly said they extended ff7 content is not canon but they did use aspects from it They then show zack carrying cloud scene which I assume is a mix of crisis core and the original scene in ff7 then timey wimey explosion happens flyer or chip bag of a mascot character comes by but le gasp it’s changed there must timey wimey shenanigans afoot oh wait it says original on it so it’s more a comparison of zack and cloud he then picks cloud back up rain happens meaningful moment happens as it shows zack crossing paths with Aerith in a emotional sense the debate is whether zack dies or lives in the remake.
I thought this was obvious considering the fact that the entire remake plotline is about changing the future and character's fates. I mean they literally kill fate and they see a snippet of Aerith's death.
I'm in a similar boat. The original FF7 was my introduction to the series (when a friend of mine brought the game over to my house once, and from that point on, I was hooked), and while FF7 isn't my favorite FF game from that era (that distinction actually goes to FF8), it's still one of the most prized games in my personal library. Though my favorite FF game of all time has to be the MMO, FF XIV both because it's a great game in it's own right, and it also has tons of fan-service for veterans of the franchise. Including cameos of certain major characters and villains from other FF games.
@@gamester512 I keep talking with my friends about what if they had Sephiroth or JECHT as raids. I don't play, coz I got a lemon laptop, but I've seen enough streams to know all the references, even the ones they don't. Sephiroth's very unlikely now due to the Remake and Smash, but Jecht is still very possible. Imagine, a raid set to Otherworld.
IX is easily my best, and VI does have the better emotional narrative between its cast, but I CAN'T NOT say VII is my favorite. Yes, my favorite even if I think IX is my best. It may seem overhyped, and Square certainly did not help with that because of the Compilation oversaturating it, but it otherwise rightfully deserves its fame. Cloud and Sephiroth deserve to be the leading representatives for the franchise, like it or not. And it's not as if it's not a well-written story. Honestly, thanks to things Team Four Star's FFVII Machinabridged, the Remake, and now Smash, I've found new things about the writing that make me appreciate the story more, such as the absolute necessity of Zack and Aerith dying, that Sephiroth's god complex is a dark exaggeration of Cloud's self-projected image of being a badass, and that maybe it's more prudent to consider Sephiroth and Jenova as one character and entity after Nibelheim.
He actually did have some time. Through out all SSBWiiU and till now in Ultimate so he technically had 5 years of peace in the Smash universe till Sephiroth found him.
@@omiartz Cloud was released to Smash 4 on December 15, 2015. With Sephiroth's release being December 2020. Cloud had five years of relief from Sephiroth in the Smash Universe.
@@666slateran666 Lol dang I’m seeing you leave salt trails everywhere in the comments. Seph is iconic. You can call him overrated, but he is legendary.
@@666slateran666 There's actually a funny reason why Sephiroth was barely a character in the OG game. You see SQNX was inspired by the Movie Jaws. How the shark was not always shown and was only alluded so that when it's presence is near or when it shows up, shits was real. SQNX wanted to create an extremely powerful, oppressive, and threatening villain. And the way they do it is to replicate how Jaws would play out. They were saving him for the very last, to get that feeling of real shits just about to hit the fan. That there is this entity that it's presence is so threatening, that when mentioning it, they just have to speak in hints due to the sheer terror the character feels towards that villain. And it worked with how well-remembered and iconic Sephiroth was. So fun fact, Sephiroth was also inspired by a shark besides an angel. XD
@@666slateran666 completely disagree. In fact, he’s loved for the wrong reasons. He’s actually a WAYYYY better character than people give him credit for but since the majority of this generation was introduced to him through kingdom hearts, advent children, Dissidia etc they don’t know that and they just see badass villian with sword and amazing theme.
Sepiroth looks incredible. My dad grew up with FF7 and seeing his hype when we watched Game Awards reminded me of how special Smash is. I love this game.
Max: *OH MY GOD THIS IS FROM ADVENT CHILDREN!!* Chat: Is Advent Children good? Max: that’s a big question. Edit: holy crap! Thanks for all the likes! I also high key love Advent Children but there’s obviously a lot of nostalgia involved.
This reminds me this one time I was explaining to my sister how Kingdom Hearts was a crossover with Disney and Final Fantasy and she then told me she didn't know anything about FF, the only characters she knew was Cloud and Sephiroth
Holy shit. Didn't expect to see you here DD. Just strolling through the comments and boom, there you are. Nice to see you man! Love the content, and have plenty of good smash matches.
Funny enough, Ganondorf, Bowser, and Sephiroth have a thing for having fire surrounding them. - Ganondorf rides his horse while in fire in Young Link's nightmare - Bowser has himself surrounded by fire in smash bros melee intro - and of course Sephiroth with that awesome shot while in the fire
I just love how almost everyone who has posted a reaction to Sephiroth's trailer knew who the character was not when they first saw him, but when they heard the FOURTH NOTE of One Winged Angel. I counted it in over 20 reaction videos and 90% of the people reacting lost their minds on the fourth note of that song. This is such a legendary addition to the game. I love it.
for me it was at the giant slash down though thats probably cause i never played final fantasy 7 and learned of him through other medias so i didn have the song memories and it was kind of a guess but for a smash game he was the immediate character i could think of just slashing that giant thing down the middle XD
This was a suprise hit for Max, because he actually realizes that not many people that are casuals watched advent children. Only the more dedicated fans did.
I became a fan because of max over the years of him gushing over the remake. I loved the game but I tried to watch AC for the first time today.... I couldn't get past 30 minutes holy crap LOL
@@JuanFlores-gs7uu Yes. And as Max said, while the movie's story isn't great, the fight scenes are very good. Though, to be fair to Advent Children, it was only the second time someone had ever tried to make an actual Final Fantasy movie (the first time being Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). And you have to respect the people behind the movies for having the guts to actually try putting Final Fantasy into a movie format. I've seen both movies (Spirits Within has no connection to FF7 though, IIRC), and while neither is amazing, they can still be enjoyable.
@waluigiwithachainsaw for the amount you pay for tv bill I'll take that 10 dollar bill every time you cant really complain about it if you can eat at a fast food joint you can afford RU-vid and avoid the annoying ads it's well worth it Plus I use it for audiobooks when I work so being able to turn my phone off is worth as well
@@catac1ysm13 Yeah no don't pay RU-vid for their scummy tactics. Just get adblockers. It's free and easier to do and fuck RU-vid's scummy business practices.
That stage is literally the end of ff7 where the mako is going crazy and they leave the crater in the ship and you can even see the meteor falling. This stage is going to be epic.
@@MeatOfJustice Sadly I don't think the new stage will even be discussed for legality. It's gonna have copyrighted music and TOs probably just won't run the stage, meaning nobody'll practice on it. =/ Could be wrong, but unlikely...
@@Galiaverse Well of course they won't play on the new stage; the competitive side of Smash always plays on the same *FIVE DAMN STAGES EVERY MATCH* (especially either Smashville or Town & City)!!! Honestly they're just as bad as the Capcom FGC who always only play on the Training Stage! 😡😡
Sakurai pulled no punches. I’m sure their team knew they had to do justice to seph and they absolutely nailed it. I was debating if the second fighter was worth it but seph alone makes it so.
I'll never forget the words he said when he saw Sephiroth. Honestly, can't wait to play as Sephiroth and use one-winged Angel fighting Minecraft Steve.
Sephiroth is one of my favourite video game characters. The fact he invokes this reaction from players old and new really says something about his legacy and that of FFVII. Cannot wait to play him in Smash.
TFS hellsing: Characters seeing Galeem get one tapped by a man with an angel wing: "Hooray! We're saved by an Angel!" *Cloud is suddenly visibly angry, hard rock orchestra boss music with Latin lyrics plays and the sky becomes a hellscape of darkness* Characters in fear:"oh god we were saved by an angel"
I even feel some of the other characters that are really focused on in the CG trailer are linked to Sephiroth in some way. There's Zelda representing Aerith, Mewtwo is an edgy lab experiment like Seph, Pit and Galeem represent the angel theme, Bayonetta fights angels in her game. I just feel most of the focused side characters are chosen for a reason. More obscure/out there references: Greninja is a ninja like Yuffie, Banjo and Kazooie are two in one like Cait+Mog. I could go on but that's what I think at least.
@@nathanalexandre9043 Well KH1 Sephiroth was much harder than KH2 as I believe in the OG Japanese he was the only secret boss (they added more in the international and Final Mix releases)
I can just hear the character screen now. Announcer {Upbeat tone}: *Isabelle* Announcer {Serious tone}: *Sephiroth* It's just so surreal and I. Am. Here. For. That.
Max: "I am going for fun over everything and we'll let the players figure out how balanced this shit is" How every fighting game/character should be imho
@@Plute-Oh I'd argue it's the opposite. Balance matters far less in Smash since it isn't really made to be a competitive fighter. This isn't KoF, it's a dumb party game.
The whole "anime swordsman" complaint is so stupid to me. Japanese RPGs usually have an "anime" art style because they're, y'know, Japanese. RPG protagonists the vast majority of the time are swordsmen, and would you look at that, almost all of Smash's swordsmen are main characters from RPGs. Besides, it's not like there aren't *60* other characters to pick who don't use a sword.
You are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you for having intelligence. The world needs more of you. There are 78 characters in the game. 20 of them are swordsmen. That doesn't even make up a third of the roster and yet there are "too many anime swordfigthers". Nintento is a Japanese company. Super Smash bros. is a Japanese game lol. Oh wow what's this? NINETY PERCENT OF THE ROSTER ARE CHARACTERS THAT WERE DEVELOPED IN JAPAN?! LOL. Crazy.. I know...
@@doublex85 Is it really, though? There's eight Fire Emblem characters. Out of *78* playable characters. There's 11 Mario characters if you count DK and Wario, 10 playable Pokemon, yet I've never heard anybody say there's too many Pokemon and people keep asking for Waluigi for bizarre reason. I could, maybe, understand the sentiment if all the Fire Emblem characters played really similar to each other but only three of them do, which by the way, is the same number of Links that are in the game.
16:38 Holy Crap I can NOT believe he called it. Sephiroth really IS a surprise guest boss in this game !!! 🤯 Edit: Also at 6:09 he was right that this is Sephiroth's victory pose
@AT Productions Specifically Greninja and not Sheik, because of their big ol’ Shuriken weapon! Bonus: Yuffie’s from Wutai, associated with Leviathan the WATER deity! 🤯
My dude is here changing timelines in remake and coming to a whole different universe to say hello in his downtime.. advent children Sephiroth is absolutely OP .
When Max was talking about watching Advent Children 100 times did anybody else besides me wish he would sit down and just talk about that movie in a video? Cause I'd watch the shit out of that
Just a quick clarification: That “curse” attack is a move Bizarro Sephiroth does called Heartless Angel that reduces HP to 1. It’s funny because it casted it on Dark Pit.
Safer Sephiroth uses it, not Bizarro Sephiroth. Although I wish his Bizarro form got a little bit more representation. It's like people forgot it ever existed.
@AT Productions no it isn’t. He had that attack in the vanilla version released in 1997. Just because it has “Heartless” in the name doesn’t mean it comes from KH.
Pretty sure that isn't Heartless Angel, I think it might be Shadowflare, like, he has a move that summons orbs of dark flame that chase the target in Dissidia and KH2, and its not Heartless Angel
From what I’ve seen, all of the players that go “Rah Too Many Sword Fighters!” are letting Sephiroth be ok with no complaints about it because it’s freakin’ Sephiroth.
Not every single dlc has to be some crazy ass third party character. I don't think people realize the work that goes into getting one of these characters. They got too spoiled by Sakurai.
I mean "hes the original anime swordsman" doesnt even hold water because that's Hero. Also Cloud. Also Marth. But the wildness of the pick is still kinda crazy here.
If 20 years ago, you told me that Cloud and Sephiroth would appear in games next to both Super Mario and in another with Mickey Mouse, I would’ve laughed my butt off. Yet, here we are.
Casual people: "Another anime swordsman character?! Jeez!!" Me an Intellectual: "Excuse me, THE anime swordsman to you. Also, more villain representation."
@@pinksywedarnoc8017 "Oh man oh man I hope they add Sora, Lloyd, Isaac, or Dante to Smash!" *Byleth gets announced* "UGGGGHHH ANOTHER ANIME SWORD GUY???"
I like to imagine while Seph and Cloud are having that intense clash staredown Mario's awkwardly dangling from the end of the sword like "So, do you-a two...know each-a other?"
@@HowlingGuild I hate how most smash fans look at the sword of a character wields rather than the history of a character. Made me stop engaging with the smash community...
Sephiroth is one the best characters to ever be created. It wasn't a matter of if, but when he would join Smash. That should be his victory pose. Ohh that music is glorious as ever. FF7 still my favourite game of all time.
