Funny enough the whole Stalking Cloud thing didn't come to be until After FF7... Mostly due to a misinterpretation of his character. The FF7 Remake MOSTLY amended it.
C'mon guys, Sephiroth just wants to invite his best friend to his family reunion and have Cloud meet his mom. Not much, just a reunion.... J u s t A R E U N I O N
"it would have been very cute if cloud was the last boss fight for sephiroth." oh max, sephiroth would have to see cloud as an equal for that to ever happen.
Um he does. Sephiroth legit only sees Could as an equal even calling him brother. Only seeing Cloud as the only threat to his plans even. Which Cloud has proven true being he is always the one to stop him canon wise.
What would have been really cool is if they added Ruby Weapon as he is in Final Fantasy XIV for Sephiroth's final boss, along with "Ultima (The Primals)". BEAT, THE HEART OF SABIK, THE HEART OF SABIK, THE HEART OF SABIIIII-IIIIK!
The final boss isn't the hands, it's playing one-winged angel on Sephiroth's stage because the hands have come to fight him. He's literally the final boss.
Definitely plan on recreating this but including K Rool and other villains. I’d like to think the villains are applauding because they concede that when compared to Sephiroth, they are nothing.
@@scufflingboogaloo5006 Yeah but the treatment is "bigger" compared to others. For one thing, it also serves as redemption for Cloud's inclusion and return in Smash.
@@mythosinfinite6736 Sakurai doesn't even work at Nintendo, he used to work for HAL. And Nintendo is responsible for choosing the possible fighters and negotiations with third parties, Sakurai said as much.
@@NuiYabuko I'm aware that he created Sora Ltd. for the sake of working with other companies as well, but let's face it, Sora's chained to Smash in every way but the roster. As for what makes him so great, it's not the roster picks; it's the amazing away that he integrates them. He's got a fantastic art for expressing characters within the constraints of his games that I aspire to as a dev. Side note: It's also not true that Nintendo picks them. It's more of a half-truth, and it only applies to the mandatory inclusion of a new Pokémon character every game (no seriously) and the Smash Ultimate DLC. The reality of the situation is that Nintendo presented an extended roster of possibilities and Sakurai got to choose 5 of them for the first DLC pack. As a bonus, evidence of Sakurai choosing picks can be found in the design docs of each game, where Sakurai presents newcomers that he wants to see in the game; the best known and most easily accessible example of these docs is the translated version of some Sm4sh doc pages, if you're interested.
Sakurai: “This might be the first time we’ve designed a stage depicting a series of story events unfolding” Dude has designed so many stages that he totally forgot about Termina and the giants stopping the moon from falling in great bay didn’t he.
It's actually kinda ironic since the finale of Majora's Mask always had some major FFVII vibes to me. I mean, the crazy, nigh-godlike villain tries to kill everyone by dropping a celestial body on the world and The Giants are the guardians of Termina in much the same way that Holy/the Lifestream end up protecting the world.
It wasn't on the same level as Northern Crater. With Great Bay, it was more a background element, with the Northern Crater, the story is the sole focus of the whole stage, as the stage itself is pretty spartan in means of gimmicks.
The guy occasionally forgets one or two things (and he did say "might" so even he wasn't so sure about that) like how he said Suzaku Castle is the first stage to feature music changing in the middle of a fight where Mushroom Kingdom 2 did that with the stage's Overworld-Boss theme.
Max must've dream travelled to Sakurai's office or something. Mentioning Lance Bass (Sephiroth's first English VA) and wearing a Shinra shirt on the announcement. Calling the Sephiroth boss fight and Barret & Tifa Mii costumes (although the Mii costumes were pretty obvious). Dude has been on point for a while now
I just love how his classic mode is you playing as the final boss. You slaughter your way through every boss then Master Hand and Crazy Hand fight you on YOUR stage with YOUR boss music. Fucking love it
I was saying on Twitter, basically the only thing he didn't do was get music from Remake, but you can kind of understand that that would be beyond even his ability.
Who know that when you were a kid you would someday be playing a game where you can play as Sepheroth throwing a poke ball at Solid Snake in a Metoid level made by Nintendo
That's still crazy considering that only God's are considered strong enough to use that spell Donald is technically stronger than the MAJORITY of Final Fantasy and that baffles me lmao
Max: "He is the only bad guy in smash" -Ganon: destroyed lands dies and comes back to do it again. -Ridley: a Space Pirate that has killed millions. Including blowing up planets. Also dies and comes back multiple times. Ya Ganon might be low compared to Seth but um Ridley got him beat ten fold when it comes to being an evil villain. Due legit killed Samus's parents and teases her about it just becuase he thinks its fun to fuck with her.
I don't get how people forget Ridley is smart.. he's literally described as the leader of the Space Pirates, a group that terraforms and invades planets, manipulate their own DNA and reverse engineer Samus's weaponry which is ancient technology that no one really knows how to replicate.
Ever since Joker released, there's this thing I do where I don't do anything with the new character until I've bested them in a CPU match. Nice to see this implemented in an official matter.
@@kalimbalove1912 Yeah, but that's the game model, for example, Raiden from MK should be 7 feet tall, but he's about Liu Kang's height in the actual game, and he's 5'10". Sephiroth at max is 6'2".
"Ridley's a space lizard who's misunderstood." The dude ate Samus' parents and then taunted her about it until her PTSD got triggered, he might be worse than Sephiroth if not in ambition than in cruelty.
Must be the Megamind effect. Ridley’s barbaric, brutal, and cruel. Sephiroth is cruel too, but he’s got fabulous hair, the sex appeal of an Olympian, and also outdoes Ridley in the ridiculousness factor by stalking Cloud literally everywhere. So, PRESENTATION!
"Mr. Sakurai, can we have Sephiroth NOW?" - players "If you want it, then you have to take it. But you already knew that." "We had a feeling you'll say that." *summons Cloud*
This is just snipped from the stream. He glanced at his current stream time and estimated on the fly. Folks really in here expecting absolute perfection from people at all times...
this presentation was so extra and gave us so much more than we thought we'd get. Sakurai is an FFVII-fan, too. I laughed when he said "Sqe'enix-sama" when talking about the music copyright.
@@edmanr2010 i think the reason was cuz the coding for Steve was probably a nightmare and seeing the character is just a reminder of the hell him and ESPECIALLY the programmers went through
@@edmanr2010 Ontop of what was already mentioned, I imagine recording in a studio again was good for Sakurai as well as opposed to recording from his home. Helps bring back a sense of normalcy
"Shirtless Sephiroth"? Oh, you must be talking about his twin brother, Shirtisoff. Yeah, it's common to mistake the two, but here's a tip on how to tell them apart: Shirtisoff has more fangirls and fanboys drooling over him than Sephy. Also, if you look real closely you may notice that, unlike his older twin, Shirtisoff is also not wearing a shirt.
Geno was also made a Mii fighter costume when Cloud came to Smash 4, and that didn't kill the meme. It just went from "he'll be in Smash 4" to "he'll be in Smash 5". Geno will be in Smash 6, trust me.
@@hwanniggles187 No it isn't- Challenger Pack 8 was made available for pre-order almost immediately after this presentation ended. Anyone can buy that pack now and take the challenge.
I didn’t even realize that! The references are nuts. The one that stuck out to me was when Tifa knocked Cloud and K. Rool away, being a reference to the Golden Saucer play.
The smash team adds references like that all the time in trailers. There is always so much detail in every piece of media the team produces. It really adds to the effect of them just picking up characters and plugging them right into smash without them feeling different.
@@themasterblaze7563 I first noticed it with the Sans reveal. His opponents are all humans and one yellow "flower" and he dodges every single attack from them. And then I believe he eats a hot dog. The amount of detail they pack into like five seconds of Mii fighter reveal is always crazy.
22:10 Is such a happy Max, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Nothing but appreciation for Sakurai for going _this far_ to do justice, not just to Sephiroth but to FF7 as a whole.
Killed her parents, right in front of her, gloated about it, and then tried to kill her while taunting her all the while. Its no damn wonder she's got PTSD from that. And mind you she was only a child of FOUR YEARS OLD when this happened.
Interesting, his blade actually incorporates a concept in real swordsmanship. you have to strike with a certain part of the blade, just slightly behind the tip, for maximum performance.
This is why I love smash so so much As someone who is from a developing country,i never thought that my mom would know any of these characters even though she was in the generation to know them(except for Mario and Pikachu ,everyone knows them) Yet when Sephiroth came up,she immediately recongize him as she once played ff7 the original before It was so fun to actually bond over a video game character with my mom, someone who i never considered to have played any of them It fills me with joy to have a game where the young generations can use Steve, inkling and min min to play while the older ones can use what they grew up with It is amazing
If they started the animation and cut to another scene before it landed it would have been very funny 😆. What would be even crazier is if your mii Aerith gets impaled as a quick cut scene during character select and she’s no longer playable when Seph fully gets released.
My favourite part about this game's development is that Sakurai mentioned in a interview that the music arranger's got to choose which songs they want to remix, which is awesome cause one composer made a lot if Fire Emblem Arrangements to show his love for the series which makes it really nice. So during Sephiroth's development cycle, one of the musicians must've said "I would like to remix a song" and chose his/her favourite track from the game which was Cosmo Canyon (for Example) which for me makes character reveals all the more awesome as I get to see which favourite song of the arranger is remixed for the character... Smash Bros is an amazing series I don't think many Party/Fighting Game can have as much hype as smash does for example the Banjo-Kazooie reveal... one of fave smash reveals alongside Every 3rd party character in the game as well as my two fave Nintendo characters Isabelle and Inkling Girl. Sorry for going on and on basically I trying to say is Smash will be and forever be my fave fighting game franchise of all time.
It's also fun when they get the chance to remix their own song like when Yoko Shimomura just went HAM on that Vega remix that wouldn't sound out of place in Kingdom Hearts with all the piano.
Sephiroth holding his sword against Sakurais back. "Good now tell them exactly what i want you to and dont mess this up..." Sakurai: "Visibly sweating"
The reason Sephiroth's stage is used in the Master and Crazy Hand fight for the end of his Classic Mode isn't because you're fighting Master and Crazy Hand as a boss, _it's that they're fighting YOU as the boss!_
@@The_child-catcher Well it's known he actually has a fighting game background. You can feel a lot of SNK in smash, and Terry was a love letter to them from presentation to how he plays. I'm sure if he was not so busy he'd do tournaments. Man.. imaging that tho, playing him in Grand Finals. He even joked about the frame data stuff which was great.
2020 for Max: Hosts a renowned MVC3 tourney on Twitch his fave game ever remake came out a character from his fave game came out in Smash oh and he became a father as well lol. Good stuff!
"Ridley's just a big lizard who's misunderstood." I don't think you play enough metroid, Max. Ridley and Sephiroth are basically on the same level of evil
I feel like Rathalos battle being first is a dual reference to the dragon you fight with Sephiroth in your party and the Zolem he kills shortly after leaving Midgar.
The best reactons for Max are the ones where he's smiling from start to finish. We got it with Cloud, again with Terry, and once more with Sephiroth. ^__^
@@MrDibara All those were Smash related. Outside of that, there are certainly plenty of other examples. But the Rock reveal certainly is a fine example too.
