I love that in the story he's capable of warping reality and using cataclysmically destructive magic, but to make it a fair fight he's just gonna fuck around and shoot guns badly.
I love that so much, gives me Beerus vibes from DBFZ. Beerus could literally destroy pretty much any other character in that game, but instead he just flicks people and kicks orbs around
Spoilers And Even nerfing himself and giving the heroes TONS of opportunities to break apart his plan, HE STILL WINS. I-No lost but thats on her, but HC did his job and won.
It's kinda sad that people don't get this. That's the whole point of him. He is literally NERFING HIMSELF to get to any kind of balance to him. It's also the fact that he's called Happy CHAOS so you'd think he be crazy and stuff, but that's what you expect, so because of that he's normal looking, and is all aloof. It's what you least expect.
@@liljon042 Exactly, it'd be really weird and honestly less interesting if Happy Chaos was this super cool, badass gunslinger. It would really take away from the whole point of his character.
@@shumjuna1 That's one of the things I legitimately like about him & the GGStrive story: Though the story does have a happy ending the villain does infact win and succeed at what he is trying to do, that's really refreshing in fighting game stories
The funny part about him looking weird when he's shooting is, that in the story, he's supposed to be the strongest magic user. So it's like he really doesn't know how to shoot a gun, and is just casting a spell instead to make it look like he knows what he's doing.
That's the point of Happy Chaos. He knows too much about the world around him, but he's a nihilist and doesn't even flex to apply order to his fighting stance.
That's probably why he has a cross hair on his opponent and him shooting his gun takes up his own magic meter. He's not trying to aim at his opponent, but rather his magic is being used to aim at his opponent and shooting the gun for more powerful bullets.
Happy Chaos is one of, if not THE most powerful character in the setting, so it makes sense they'd go the Beerus route with him looking like he's barely trying.
It's probably to go along with his character, since he is mainly doing things just to get some fun out of it, and certain things have just become boring for him
@@gaminglakitu if u really think about it, the entire concept of him being a gunslinger relates to this idea. He's doing it for style only, why else would he use a gun when he practically started the entire concept of magic on guilty gear lore
To my knowledge, he is the most powerful but he's put things in place to keep himself and thing's connected to himself (Like god I-No) in check (Like the Seed in Sol and Jack-O's selfdestruct) but yeah I agree that the Beerus route with him makes sense.
He ISNT a Gunslinger. He wields a Gun yeah, but he has like NO Experience or Technique. In the story he literally just finds his gun on the floor and starts using it. Funny shit.
More funny than giving the opponent a afro or a few fingers up the butt like in xrd? Or the fact he now has afro install. It's a nice touch but I don't know about funny
@SOLDIERblazing was ment to say i dont know about funny. It's cool dont get me wrong but I dint find it as funny as afro state, this is just character flair will have no gameplay effects like afro
I'd love to see more fighting games have a character that gives out about losing via Time Out like maybe they look at the clock and say something like "I dare you to put this on Infinite Time, ya coward!"
This trailer works a lot better when you understand the actual character. Chaos is, very much in the same vein as Sol, an indestructible asshole with zero formal combat training. He also doesn't really take anything seriously and is entirely motivated by the search for shits and giggles. I'm pretty sure the guy only uses a gun because it's the weapon that requires the least effort to use. If you listen to the dialogue in the trailer he literally says he's not there to fight but to "enjoy the company of his opponent." His lazy, not at all stylish animations make a lot more sense when you understand this, he's not some expert combatant, just a bored and very unhinged immortal with nothing better to do, and when you look at his animations like that he sells it VERY well. (Also he is by far the best part of the story mode, one of those villains that absolutely DEVOURS the scenery)
@@KuroNoTenno I mean kind of? I didn't like the trailer at first but it has a lot of interesting things in it when you actually look at what's going on in the trailer. I do half agree that this isn't the best presented trailer but the character himself looks sick.
I sorta feel like this character resonated with me so well because of this trailer to the point that I have to play him. The reason I play fighting games is for fun, shits and giggles and combo expression. Winning or losing matters very little and looking cool because you are cool is way more important. Guys like max mr Lion or whatever just don't get it.
@@KuroNoTenno they threw it together last minute. It was supposed to be elphet. For me though the trailer was perfect. I rather keep him a mystery and I think the trailer brought more than enough hype.
@@MrMatheus195 Because Sol is a nonchalent asshole that puts a smidge of effort in a fight, Happy Chaos is a reality altering entity which loves to fuck around for the sake of it, of course he's gonna act as if he doesn't know how to shoot because he doesn't need to put effort behind it
He's literally shoots in the same pose as that one Bob Ross meme where it's like: _You'd better delete this or we're gonna have a happy little accident._
This character is definitely a cooler reveal if you watched the story considering he carried most of it. Knowing more about him makes everything he does in the trailer make more sense
As someone who watched through the whole story, all I can say is that I thought the reveal was kinda eh... I'm not disappointed or anything, but I thought it was underwhelming.
I don't know why, but this trailer has made me more hyped than goldlewis and jack-o combined. He wasn't even on my "most wanted characters list" but after this trailer, I can definitely say that I really want to try him out.
He's this OP mage who, rather than using his magic properly, uses this gun he just picked up because it's more fun and he's OP enough to get away with it. That's why he's got such bad gun form.
@@SPACECOWBOY705 In what way ? At worst case scenario he'll feel weird to play, which I hope isn't the case because I wanna main this man. If it's purely a visual/thematic thing, it will be just like Faust tossing random garbage at hyper serious characters, which is always fun. Can't wait to see him against characters like Ky and Leo; they'll maintain their form at all times during the battle, while Happy lazily shoots them with some guns he found
I love how not-extra his gunslinging is. Even Adachi tries to put some spin in his sharpshooting then there's this over the top looking character shooting as if he's a normal person.
He looks like a normal child with a toy gun. I think most normal people would understand that you don't hold a gun with a limp wrist. Chaos has no reason to care tho
I think the entire point of the trailer is showing him as an omnipotent idiot. He doesn't care about winning, he cares about enjoying the fight, so very little of it is actually showcasing him as "strong" or "cool". We all know that he is one of the strongest beings in the canon (apparently?), but he just comes off as... silly. He spends more time using dopplegangers to show off how cool he thinks he is, ONLY fights by using his guns and very few other moves, apparently loses to a time out of all things and shoots the time keeper for it... the only cool thing he does is his utility super apparently being able to hit his opponent from anywhere. He feels a lot like The Joker. Actually dangerous, but so kooky and acting harmless that you don't know when he's being serious.
I get what you’re saying and it does make sense but this whole approach to him could totally backfire if he simple just isn’t any fun to play. Like idk a character like this has so much potential they could’ve done something more than just make him a gunslinger who doesn’t really know how to shoot guns just for jokes but I’m gonna keep an open mind until he comes out and I hope they prove me wrong
@@jeremyroberts8822 They really didn't show him doing... anything in this trailer. They just kept showing off him shooting and that he can make clones, i doubt he's actually just that. There were a few clips where he was doing melee, so not using the guns, but the guns will more than likely just be combo extenders that you use on occasion because you will eventually run out of bullets. Like you could just spam bullets, but then you have to reload and are completely open. So I think his bullets are gonna be a little bit similar to Johnny's coins where you can just extend a combo further by hitting them with it, but they definitely will not give him level ups on moves. They literally just showed 2 specials and 1 super.... they're definitely holding back on this trailer.
I'm seeing many comments saying that he is omnipotent and stuff. I am not much of a lore geek but he for sure does not come close to the Big Three being I-No, Axel and Faust. He still predates them and is the reason for Guilty Gear to even exist BUT, not half as powerful as actual gods which those guys above are.
TLDR: there are TWO “That Man” characters Asuka, the dude with the white hair and white coat And Happy chaos, which is his teacher? Or something like that
Ok so Happy Chaos is the fusion of the Savior/Original with half of I-No's power. Asuka/That Man was one of his disciples, but Happy Chaos was also a "That Man" who screwed around for no real reasons besides funsies. So basically Happy Chaos is the "Evil" That Man, while Asuka is the "Good" That Man.
@@enzoponce1881 GG fans tend to overexplain… Easier explanation: ino was born long time ago with 100% power, “god” saw her as a threat so she put half of inos power into the Original, Original is now happy chaos
The only opinions I’ve seen on him so far are “Oh god, he looks so bad” and “AYO HE LOOKS SO FUN” I have to pick up Strive again because of this, so I have to hope it’s the latter.
@@TheBelovedBun yes, i like him because he definitely feels more tasteful than someone like that green-haired guy from Blazblue. Happy Chaos is less of a sadist and more just unapologetic, lazy and full of swag, he’s here to have a good time and really if you can put up with his quirky mannerisms he doesn’t seem like that much of a bad guy.
@@Dastankbeets9486 I liked Terumi, but I absolutely fell in love with Hazama. I will admit, HC was done much better, but I’ll forever cling onto the snake boys.
Just to sort out all of this confusion Happy Chaos was actually That Man/Asuka's teacher and the inventor of magic in the Guilty Gear universe. Sometimes he has been That Man himself, other times it was Asuka. The one Baiken wants to kill is Asuka but she like everyone else not in the know, isn't aware. Being the inventor of magic itself, this makes him even more powerful and dangerous than Asuka and he's able to cast magic far quicker. He uses a gun instead of all that magic because it runs in line with his playful personality. He _could_ just instantly kill you with a barrage of unavoidable magic spells, but that's no fun to him at all and he values entertainment over all else. Yeah, he does look like he doesn't know how to because he doesn't. But he finds it a fun weapon to use, so he'll use it. It's effective in its simplicity and he doesn't have to worry about getting smacked in the face.
This season might as well be Characters who aren't playable in the story mode. Edit: look I'm not saying it's a bad thing it's a bad that the this season will be Characters who weren't in story mode. What I'm trying to say is that since chaos was the third character that was from story mode and wasn't playable I thought that the whole season will be just Characters who weren't in dlc and I'm cool with that .
I've been saying it will be. It only makes sense. Drop a story mode and people are gonna want to play as the new characters. Maybe second season will have more legacy characters but first season will have new characters. All that's left is Asuka and Vernon. Also might be spoilers but yes Vernon (the president) is possible.
Yeah, I think not knowing the lore behind Happy Chaos, it's easy to be confused by his whole design/animations. But they do fit perfect for what he is though!
His character definitely relies on you having known the story to find cool. Happy Chaos is a guy who lives for drama, and he's just in for the ride of it, so it does make sense that he looks like he's just fucking around and not taking the fight seriously. I don't doubt he'll actually have a few neat tricks up his sleeve in gameplay, but I do agree these formats of trailers don't really show of the gameplay in it's best light. I think it would be better if they did reveals via showing off a match being played for real, with two players not in a sense "choreographing" what is being shown, and in turn....actually showing off the character's utility in a practical way
For those that haven't played the story, he's basically the Joker mixed with Loki and he's one of the most powerful magic users in GG. So naturally, he's a gunslinger... Maybe it would help if you had seen him in the story mode movie.
@@ShadowSumac I can’t believe there are people out there who don’t want to sit through a video game story mode where you never get to actually play the game. Wild.
@@pleaseenteraname3684 A story mode where you never get to actually play the game, *and* ridden with corny dialogue, weird pacing, and random chunks of rushed low-budget animation. It's not horrendous and has its cool moments, but it's no wonder Max and a lot of other people avoid it. If ArcSys wanted to go full "let's shove a literal anime inside the game", I'd at least expect it to be OVA quality--not RWBY quality.
@@pleaseenteraname3684 I can't believe people complain about it, like it is big deal to just take some time out of your precious life to just watch what amount to about 4 hour movie.
The characters for this season are already long leaked from dataminers. The last two are Baiken and Slayer. The leaks have all been right so far so people are going to be waiting a LONG time if they are expecting anyone else.
Looking a bit boring makes sense I guess. It's made clear he isn't really interested in winning so long as he's entertained in the process. Also has a tendency to leave gaping flaws in his plan just so that others can exploit them and make things more interesting. So I guess it's supposed to fit with him not trying too hard in the interest of giving his opponents a decent chance to win. That being said I think it'd be cool for him to have a super based around taking the kid gloves off and using his allegedly god tier magic. Cause I kinda get the feeling he uses guns on a whim and cause he thinks they're cool, not because they give him any serious advantages in a fight given he's an immortal and the creator of magic in the guilty gear world.
@@Hellscrap3r I’m fairly certain Adachi from Persona 4 isn’t voiced by Robbie Daymond. Edit: I have checked, Adachi is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, not Robbie Daymond.
I would agree with that, at least from the new DLC characters. People are saying that he isn't "cool" enough but Happy Chaos isn't a "cool guy", he is a genius turned into powerful psycho, he is about as crazy as you can get in GG, so of course he would not be cool, he is not meant to be. In terms of personality, his animations are a 10/10, he like he is having the time of his life fighting the opponent and testing them as he likes, so it's definitely a win for me.
@@KaguraHibachi yeah he said with red hoods guns lol. He compared him to joker which is accurate. Sum ppl can't read apparently 🤷 I'd say joker with elephat's guns.
In my opinion there's two kind of people that like this trailer : the new guys that know nothing about GG , and the people that know the lore . Personally , I love the contrast between his appearence ( he looks like a trickster that doesn't care for anything ) but in the end , it's this super-genius from the XXI century that introduced Magic for the world .
You shouldn't have to know anything about the characters and lore. They should be exciting on their own, considering GG lore is long and needlessly complicated. He just doesn't look fun. Period.
@@incognitofool6516 Who look at something at face value and say its fun? Its all about gameplay my dude. Just like beautiful godfall but trash gameplay
It's not really laziness it's just not wasting time on it. The story is senseless and terribly animated there is no reason to watch it, it's legitimately confusing how the writing in it appeals to anyone.
@@kopi_coko I didn't really find it confusing outside of when stuff that hadn't been established in this story was brought up but filling in the blanks wasn't bad as it went on. Why I called it senseless was because for half of it's narrative to work you essentially had to just take what was shown to you and not question anything. As soon as you start asking how or why at least half the events start showing how thin the writing logic is. Watching a few videos clarifying and breaking down the plot definitely didn't help with convincing me the writing was any better even with the added stuff from previous games, though I can understand why you say fans were happy with Sols events. BTW not trying to say people can't or shouldn't enjoy it just that it's narrative depth isn't nearly what tons of people are making it out to be, it's for lack of a better phrase a mile wide and inch deep. That and the janky animation and baked in poses throughout felt like the absolute minimal effort was put into it.
Meanwhile he plays Baiken, a tomboy woman with absurd tits, face tattoos and wacky hair. Oh no no, blue-grey skin, chest and connected shoulder tattoos and no shoes is too "strange" for guilty gear.
I feel like most of the appeal for chaos comes from all of the crazy philosophy he throws around, like he straight talks about how people enjoy fantasy more than reality once in the story.
@@lostarchon2869 Not with fighting games. I'd much rather it just be a movie, rather than have it find an excuse for 2 characters to fight every 5 minutes.
@@lostarchon2869 You sound kinda bias an ungrateful about the fact that they put a 4 hour long story for is to watch. You can play arcade mode for all that other stuff you want to be honest.
I wanted Elphelt is Strive so much. Happy Chaos is extremely cool and has some Elphelt stuff with him, but I wanted her because of her not her gameplay.
@@danielvivas121212 Well, to put it in simple terms... Happy Chaos is the literal creator of magic in the GG universe who went crazy for reasons. At one point he snaps his fingers, destroying half a city in the process. But he found a gun and he thought it was fun
'That man' is Asuka (the guy with the feather eye patch) and Happy is his teacher also called 'The Original', and the one Baiken wants to kill is Asuka, just in case xd I'm glad Happy is here but that trailer didn't show enough tbh
I wish I could say you are correct but unfortunately it’s gotten so convoluted this is incorrect. “That man” has actually be used to describe two separate people and asuka is only one. Happy revealed he was the other one and is the one Baiken has been hunting the whole time. That is why anji and chip appeared in the strive story. They already knew by that point that happy was who they were looking for and came to take him down. Happy is also using the body of the jack o prototype of the same name and initially pretends to be that prototype which is why he has that name now.
I'm excited to see where he goes, he's definitely one of my newer favorite characters after watching the story mode. There's something about obscenely powerful characters that are also goobers that don't even have to try to fight that makes them my favorite.
@@B3A5TorSomething You are correct. He can warp reality, but his only motivation is fun. So he's basically treating the gun like a temporary toy, rather than a deadly weapon.
@@valeoncat13 thats why i said he doesnt know how to use it. Chances are, guns are so fsr beloe him that he has legitamately never learned how to correctly use one.
That applies to a lot of the cast of guilty gear, it’s their explanation of why the fights are balanced. Cause there are a lot of characters that are strong humans and have no business fighting godlike beings.
Ok, some things that my group noticed when watching this trailer: The trailer definitely suits Chaos' personality, it's just how he is The animations that he has are so smooth and look so much better than the rest of the cast We also had like an hour of analysing every little gameplay detail that he had but that isn't something I'll post here, it'll be too long
At least he didn’t guess Baiken like everyone else, and makes an effort to learn the lor- (realises he only learns Bacon-related plot threads) Oh, he’s one of those, huh?
While I do probably think you are indeed huffing the copium a lot, you do have a point that his use of the gun is more personality-based, like he was in the story, THAT YOU SHOULD WATCH, over visually interesting, which is a big risk for a fighting game character. I still love him personally though.
That Man was a term used for "the one that caused the gears" because the gear maker wanted to avoid that attention on him, especially seen as he wanted to remedy that mistake working on the Justice project. Happy Chaos was around in spirit form causing problems during the war with the gears and called himself That Man to cause drama because that's what he lives for. He loves drama because he's become so all knowing and powerful as a mage that he only cares for the interpersonal drama of those around him, it's also why he uses a gun: for the fun of it.
My favorite things as a non-Strive player (it’s not available on Xbox and my PC isn’t good enough) is when he walks in on the wrong side during the “Heaven or Hell” intro, and him shooting the timer. His overdrive also looks pretty sick.
I just want the character for their actual character. Happy Chaos is so fun and just kinda wild. I’m curious on what they’ll give him in his full moveset and normals. Maybe he’ll be a zoner? Idk. Regardless I hope he has even more magic implementation because that’s his true gimmick and not a gunslinger.
I get that because you’re more interested in his personality but his personality isn’t gonna help him in the actual gameplay if he isn’t fun to play. I keep seeing people talk about how he is intentionally supposed to be like this because of story reasons but we’re paying for these extra characters so I wanna see them do something interesting gameplay wise. He’s apparently got all this magic and stuff hopefully he’ll use more of that than what it seems like cus the whole gunslinger just cus he can be thing is kinda generic atleast imo
@@jeremyroberts8822 It goes both ways for me. Leo seems fun to play to Max in a way but I don’t really vibe with the character design. Same thing with KOF XV. Game looks like it could be a lot of fun but I don’t care for any of the character designs at all except for Dinosaur man. Ideally you want a good combination of personality, design, and fun gameplay. Although at the end of the day all of these things are subjective so what could be lame to some could be cool or fun to others. Some people think Grapplers or Zoners are corny or boring, yet clearly people like playing them. We’ll have to wait and see.
I think he looks super sick. I also like the character. I like GG story and watched everything. So, maybe some bias. But the trailer really do a bad job of showing the actual gameplay. I think his animations are amazing. His intro coming with the other character, time out, outro and so on. Just perfect. But the gameplay itself they only show him shooting sometimes and doing one super. As I said I really liked him in the story and his visual so I hope he is cool to play too. But its not possible to know by watching this trailer.
