Los Angeles Nightmare Homeless Encampments on and around Skid Row. Our Mayor Eric Garcetti has enabled the worst of the worst to enter our streets and cause havoc and Trash as far as you can see. Not a single street in Los Angeles is free of Trash or Homeless. shame on the city for allowing Garcetti to keep his Job. Its like no one in Government patrols the streets. I have witnessed trash in ally's and food rotting for months with rats crawling thru the garbage right next to food distribution centers. Change this Mayor!

if this pandemic was so deadly wouldnt there just be dead bodies everywhere in these areas? or even just filling the hospitals up with homeless people because they are the ones that are not practicing social distancing or cleaning their hands constantly.

The biggest problem with the Capitalist system is that it rewards success and punishes failure. There is no solution to the problem under the current system . The city can not afford to buy the overpriced real estate to build shelters even though the city has hundreds of unused commercial buildings. @Sdakouls3
@Sdakouls3 2 года назад
@@jan22150 This is a conservative social experiment. You should educate yourself by reading about deinstitutionalization in the USA under Reagan, and the associated collapse in in-patient mental health and addiction treatment availability. Tax cuts led to public service cuts, turning tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of mentally ill people out onto the streets of US cities. There were literally hospitals that used Skid Row as a dumping ground for patients: driving them there and throwing them out on the street in their hospital gowns. This approach of blanket blaming "liberals" for all of society's problems doesn't hold any water in the real world. Both parties stood by and let this happen, and in some cases actively encouraged it to happen.

During the 1980's my high school friends and I would park our cars around Alexandria Hotel around midnight and walk through Skid Row and alleys...we would see a few crazy and memorable things. I remember not too many people were sleeping outside Skid Row, the few ones we did see were sleeping in cardboard boxes and shelters in the 80's. Almost 35 years later this well documented video shows an overpopulated homeless community that shouldn't exist...I'm in disbelief how worse it's become. My wife and I retired from the U.S. Air Force, we don't see too many homeless people in Virginia and West Virginia...most of them get Government State housing and U.S. Federal assistance to buy their own home. Where are the Government programs for Skid Row, California?!🤔 All 50 states need to get together and fix this problem...it's everyone's responsibility!🇺🇸

These are the children and grand-children of every terrible thing allowed to exist forty and fifty years ago, when it was not so obvious. The inner cities were abandoned, and the working poor made powerless long ago, largely by policies of inaction and the designs of wealth and privilege. People who believe they know how to fix such problems are looking in the wrong places and blaming those who have never known much better for generations, There is no future enlightenment to be had, because there is no light. The truly wealthy do not live here -- or work here or play here. They are invisible monsters, living in castles by the sea or in the mountains, cavorting with mountain lions and bears and insuring their many mansions against forest wildfires and earthquakes. It is far too late to be awake. It is finished. Welcome to a little piece of the nightmare we all helped to create.

Some people will look at this and think something needs to be done to help these people get back on their feet while others would say that they need some tough love. I kind of side with the realization that a majority of these people would rather live like this than live like normal people who go to work 5 days a week and have responsibilities and have to answer to the man. I doubt they would trade places with you if offered the chance. They can do what they want every day. Maybe they are the ones that have it figured out and we are the chumps. 🧐

Gentrification, soaring rents and lack of homebuilding for nonwealthy residents is what created this problem. Yea there are those with mental illness, drug issues and released exconvicts but alot of these people are normal but economically displaced from any thing that used to be Normal.

Another fascinating but grim video from C2 France. Congratulations to the brave people who made it. No simple solutions. People should always be made aware of the fact that they could face the prospect of homelessness in their lifetime. From the moment we leave home /go to college we should be prepared. We should always try to have more than one source of income if at all possible. Failing that, we should save and save every day until we get a pension. Finally, let's be honest - very few people choose to go out to work, so making money will always be a problem for millions of individuals.

in my country (switzerland) employee and emplyoer here are forced to pay into the social-security system which provides for 400 days 70% of the loan that you used to earn, (with children 80%), if you loose your Job, and if you for example loose both your legs in a exident, they wil pay you for the rest of your life 80% of your loan that you used to have. I found it hard to believe that the richest country in history had so many destitute people in it. As always, the Swiss social model seems impressive. I do wonder, however, if many of the people portrayed in this video would have the means or motivation to pay into a private social security scheme. Los Angeles, where you can buy a home for 28 million up. But for the masses, poor payed work, decades of paying more and more rent for rubbish housing, housing in the renter's market were you have less to no rights, these are broken people, drug addicts , people who are sick of struggling. The divide today between rich and poor is MASSIVE, we all live in a divided society, it will only get worse. We all need affordable housing, by affordable I do not mean 3/4 of your income, I mean 1/3 if that. More rights for renter's , most renter's have paid for the entire property in a decade, if they stay, yet out they go at a drop of a hat. There is nothing else we rent or buy were you are dictated to so much as are homes.

One could always learn from Japan, Denmark, Singapore, and Canada (Medecine Hat, Alberta). It's complicated, you can't just throw money at the homeless, or give them a place to stay, etc. There are a lot of mental health issues involved here and many addictions. Even those not addicted or never been diagnosed with any mental health issues are definitely going to have some issues after being homeless for some time ! It is very very hard for a homeless, unemployed person to re-adapt to the discipline of enduring the tight routines of having a job, they will feel like they are not free, especially if their new job involves a long shift, and let's face it, many of the homeless just will not be able to ever hold a job, because their "normal" mentality may be already be damaged, so YES, our societies need to be able to provide homes, food, clothing, etc to these people, but most importantly, they will need case workers to assist them and to oversee the programs, also to make sure they can take care of their homes, and not destroy, or turn them into garbage dumps. The bottom line is whether the people who have the power and the authority to actually do something,... WILL or NOT ! All I can do is donate to charities, but I am not a mayor, governor, senator, minister, or president !
