We have one in our shop we replaced the gas cap still had the code then the pump. Leak code went away but now it’s got a pump circuit code . Hopefully just a bad part

Intermittent problems suck. Great work.

Ramon monitor the FTP sensor output voltage while you activate the purge solenoid with your scanner, what the E.C.M is seeing is incorrect purge flow, you have eliminated a leak in the evap system as a possibility of lack of purge flow, the next step would be monitoring the FTP for excessive purge as in Clogged Charcoal canister,restricted canister,dirty canister vent filter..you will be able to find the restriction by by-passing one sub component at a time.Also fill the tank up with fresh fuel to about 3/4 full since fresh fuel is more voloitale you will see the FTP voltage rise in a key on engine off static environment. You should also be able to find the restriction or lack of purge with your G.M pressure sensor. Gasoline acts the same regardless of vehicle manufacturers. Look at every system the same because they are. I put aside the name of manufacturers and diagnosis all of them with pressure and vacuum via the FTP sensor..hope this helps.If you like reply with an E-mail address and I’ll shoot you a couple back and forth e-mails with my phone number and I’d be more than happy to help you out over the phone. Sincerely Joe Mama

I don’t know why but I couldn’t find FTP sensor PID on any of my scan tools snap on and autel. I don’t know if restrictions was a problem I had smoke all the way to air filter and off camera I did remove fuel tank cap and I did have smoke there as well. I would be glad to talk to you my friend. My email is ruzic@bellsouth.net. Thank you 😊

Thank you for making this video. I'm getting CIL on my '04 Mazda @ 2.3L. I bought a purge valve but tested the old one before swapping. It tests OK. Did you ever find the intermittent problem? I recommend doing the smoke test again and check the fuel cap and the retaining ring and seal around the fuel pump on the top of the gas tank for smoke. Even though it's an old video, many of us are still interested in (and depend on you!) the results. Cheers!

Smoke test didn’t revile any leaks and other components tested ok. I don’t work on this car anymore but purge valve is possible suspect

In a case like this where you check everything and find no leaks or problems I'd still suspect a bad purge valve. I had this happen on an 08 Honda Odyssey. It didn't set any actual DTC's but would turn on a "Check Fuel Cap" message on the dash. I checked for leaks, including the fuel cap and found none. I checked everything else just as you did, including the purge valve and found everything working correctly. On the advice of a more experienced technician, I replaced the purge valve even though it checked good and didn't leak when I checked it with a vacuum gauge just as you did, and that cured the problem. I went back with that old purge valve and did some testing on the vehicle, comparing it to the new valve, and found that it acted up when it was being duty cycled and trying to move it quickly. At the risk of throwing a part at it as a guess, I'd replace the purge valve as a very educated guess. Purge valves are the most used part in the evap system, and as such, the most common failure.

I agree with you my friend. Purge valve was most likely failing intermittently and cousin DTC. I just didn’t have guts to change it.👍

Did you check the brake booster for a leak since it is connected by vacuum line also

The only thing that comes to my mind it’s if the pressure sensor is not sending the correct information to the PCM, in this case, you did a test with your own GM fuel vapor pressure sensor, but, where is that original sensor on the vehicle? On the canister or in the tank? It’s not in top of the fuel pump assembly.

No conclusion is actually correct.✔️ ( For 2010 - 2014 Mazda3) Because its a software problem straight from the MAZDA factory. The alogrithin in the original factory program is set in by the factory programmer were too tight at the parameters of fractional + or - differences and sets off the computer warning system to give out that annoying engine light on and that awful code to the eyes of the owners. As the car ages that parameters also moves slightly due to gradually wears and contamination on parts and sensors. It's considered as normal if no drivabilty problem is affected, no high oil consumption, and no intake & exhaust leaks. This is the only the conclusion for those who have no leaks, no excessive oil consumption, no engine surging, stumbling, no stalling, and no driving issues only. Otherwise you do have problems must be addressed. There is an updated but quiet bulletin of the PCM needed a factory program update. But it's not free, the customers must pay for the PCM programmer service. It can cost a few hundred dollars 💸 if you must have it done just to getting rid of that code and annoying light. Or live with it and save money.

Do you have any specific TSB information on the new parameter update for the PCM by Mazda?
@loktom4068
@loktom4068 6 месяцев назад
@pirategmunger If you Google search it. It's there. I've seen it . Mazda wanted us to pay, and it's not free for the service at approximately $ 300+ more in USD charged by the authorized Mazda dealerships according to the information on the net. It's not free adjustment.

For those of us who lack your understanding, a diagram in the beginning, of what is involved in this circuit/system would help us understand and follow your procedures.

you got a cracked retaining ring on the fuel pump. very common on this car.
@kyhomegarage3430
@kyhomegarage3430 2 года назад
I am not sure if that is a problem. I assume in that case system would fail smoke test. It would leak around fuel pump module.

Ok so I have a po442 code on my Mazda 3 2.3l 2006 but the leak is under the car somewhere it makes a loud whistle sound me and my dad thought it was coming from the engine but the whistle is loud enough to make it seem that it’s by the engine but it’s not it’s near my front left wheel by the transmission and my emission is coming up can you plz give me some ideas of it
@kyhomegarage3430
@kyhomegarage3430 2 года назад
I would look for vacuum leak. Your EVAP system has very low pressure and doesn’t make any sound at all.
