One of the best comments/ideas I have ever heard, maybe the best was from Ron Dennis. He said in you put two people in two rooms. One hot/warm/stuffy/artificial light and the other in a cool/calm/daylight etc. You then start throwing decisions at them, who will react better or decide the better course on decision making. The hot, flustered staff or the cool, calm collected. Human performance degrades by 5% per degree above 24 oC. Amazing human science/performance and wanted the chapter to go on.

@stewartgrindlay9760

The amount of kit and electronics in and around the driver contributes to this. The clothing they wear to protect from fire is another huge factor to driving around in a 4 wheel sauna,

Hey Elvis! A well known Finnish F1 reporter called Heikki Kulta just published a book, and a local newspaper published a short story about Kimi's world championship party from the book. In the story Heikki was with Kimi going back from Red Bull's end of season party, they met an old mechanic of Kimi's, who Kimi introduced to Heikki just as "Elvis". Then all crammed up in an old Lada taxi. Now I almost remember hearing some version of this story before, but I can't find it was it in some of your vids I've watched.

I am astonished that an outfit like McLaren didn't do all the fitting for all the pit crew in private back at the factory as well as practice pitstops with the new equipment to work out the kinks before taking them anywhere near a race meeting.

When I used to fuel for an alms car, I had to wear a triple layer fire suit. One race had really hot temps. We checked my core temperature compared to other pit crew guys in their single layer suits. They were at about 100 degrees F and I was at 150.

Mark I remember the suits well, getting them on was a major problem, pretty sure they were two parts, the cooling and the Sacrificial outer layer, but the biggest problem for me was the helmet design, I was on the front wheel gun and just could not see the wheel nut easily. Alright Marc? Are you aware of if those sorts of suits still exist? I mean theyve had 20 years more development time. Sometimes great ideas ahead of their time didnt work back then because of the technology didnt exist. For instance Campagnolo and Mavic had electronic bicycle gears in the 1990s, but neither worked due to the size and reliability of the electronic components themselves. Nice to hear wee snippets of your book. :) mark

#AskElvis with the current situation of honda leaving F1 because of road vehicle relevance it got me thinking about engine rules and how to make F1 tech more relevant. What if they limit the ice output to a certain amount of HP and lose the limit on battery capacity power deployment and power regen do you think this is an idea F1 could ever do and do you think this could work? These are kind of stories and stuff that made me so attracted to Mclaren when I was watching. Of course the red car was winning when I started. And soon Renault came. But Mclaren seemed different. Always. With their recent Honda partnership they seemed to be lost. The old Mclaren was lost. Never coming back. But when Sianz and Lando came aboard. And a new team principal. There was a new hope. Mclaren now seems different to Ron’s Mclaren. But it’s not bad different. It’s good. I hope they get back up on top.

#AskElvis, Marc just 2 questions: i. When are you and your good lady wife going to do a video together. We've glimpsed her twice, but it would be nice to hear her opinion of a race weekend. ii. If RBR are unable to secure a PU supplier or manufacture one for themselves for 2022; what do you think will happen to Verstappen, if Hamilton and Bottas, don't leave Mercedes at the end of 2021. Again Marc, you and the family stay safe and health. PS: remember to treat Rex fairly.

Marc worked at McLaren from 2000-2008. During that period, Ferrari won 84 out of 157 races (53.5%), 6 out of 9 drivers' titles, and 7 out of 9 constructors' titles. Over the last nine years (2012-2020, obviously not including the last 7 races of this year as they haven't happened yet), Mercedes have won 101 out of 170 races (59.4%), and are on course to take their seventh drivers' and constructors' titles. That's a pretty similar level of dominance. And part of the dominance is because Ferrari then and Mercedes now have perfected all of the tiny little details, just as Marc goes through in this video.

Honda are a major international motor manufacturer, with all their experience and money they are still behind the curve after what 6 years, so without a major manufacturer Red Bull would not have a chance of developing an engine unless Honda let them bankroll the project, that's a lot of energy drinks to sell and they are still playing catch up with Merc. It would be ideal if an independent Engine manufacturer could do it but it's Multinational Company only these days given the complexity of these hybrid engines.

RedBull are a drinks company that also make some fashion clothing lines.. Basically a marketing company with some body making capabilities for their F1 cars. Can’t imagine the costs involved in tooling up tor an F1 engine plant.
