Still sounds better than the current F1 turbo engines?

Despite both being V6 with a turbocharger & similar displacement (old cars had 1.5 litres, new cars have 1.6 litres), they cannot sound anymore different. I don't oppose turbo V6s, but I did wish they sounded like the 1980s V6 units more than oversized vacuum cleaners.

The Mp4/4 will always be music to my ears. ❤

Am I the only one praying that we will hear that sound from the screamer pipes in 2 weeks when testing starts. That would be a dream come true.

Sounds even more brutal than MP4/5 or MP4/6 which are also truly amazing! But this one can make me very happy, It throws me back in time when F1 was my favorite sport. Senna forever :(

Nice to hear this car when recorded with proper equipment, I'm too young to have heard it for real sadly. As for the sound, it's beautiful. But the comparison argument still rages on... just enjoy it ffs.

Just missing the yellow helmet and the late great ayrton to drive it like only he can do it!! I was hiking in the Calanques between Marseille and Cassis when Senna was testing this car at Paul Ricard back in 88, and I could hear him from there. That's 15 miles / 25 kilometers away.

This sound is just pure sex, I said it, it is just spine tingling good...! These V6 Turbos and the very few V12 engines in F1 we got to witness were the pinnacle of sound...!

senna, and the way he would push the rpm in the turns made this car sound unbelievable. this guy doesn't do it justice. matched with it's size, and amazing style, it's just the coolest f1 car to ever come out of the racing scene. i can't stand the look today. there is something to be said about the low line, where the tires are higher than the drag points of the body. the frame and suspension look like toothpicks, the carbon fiber here, must be of immense strength and quality. then the sheer size of those tires from the rear. i wish we could have a low line racing league, but it'd be too dangerous…and put grand prix to shame.

Beautiful car

Hi sir, I'm 30 years old and I was actually at the 1988 canadian grand prix and saw Ayrton and Alain really drive and race with this monster. Of course any F1 driver of that era could have won with that car, but only Senna and Prost really used 100% of that car's true potential. Let's put it this way: I've truly seen The Real Senna, dancing on the limit with this car. So thank you for that remark and I remain with my 1st comment. See ya!

Here sir, take my like. Impressive review, hate those people who think they're expertise just because they saw or lived during the time the event took place.

I think these f1 cars are absolutely perfect. They are loud, they have big wheels on the back, manual transmission, much more power, they throw a flame in a exhaust, and nice sound. It sounds like perfect car for real men(apart from safety). In the past you could see the skills which had each racer different. I think F1 lost some tradition which could be important reason why we should watch on TV or go on the track.

Honda's 2015 engine sounds similar to this in the low and mid range, but then goes on to rev much higher. They've posted a video of it.

Back when they announced that the F1 engines would be 1.6 V6 turbo, this is what I expected. I was disappointed. Later when Honda was to join F1, again I expected something like this, but I was disapointed again. Let's just hope that the new engines for 2021 have better sounds than today.

That V6 sounds like a trumpet filled with tissues and it is unquestionably better than any modern F1 audio

They really jacked the ride height on that. Quite a jarring sight, considering how low they ran at the time.

simple, its what he had and he rung its neck. and those slicks are surprisingly grippy! the car isnt unbalanced, it has more nuetral handling than modern f1 cars

1988 Honda 1.5L V6, 2015 Honda 1.6L V6. Don't be too surprised if the new engines sound similar to this. You can't go by the lab recordings they have released, it will come alive when it's in a car at a track.

The car's proportions were so much better back then imo. Nowadays cars are way too long and not quite wide enough, to me it doesn't look as aggressive or as visually pleasing as it does here.

MP4/30 31 and MCL32 may sound better than some v6t... MP4/4 is the best sound so far.
