Its the actual thor not the one marvel made. The thor in god of war is the thor in actual myths a fat red head. I honestly hate marvel but they only did a good job on oden and loki i dont like thor in marvel nearly as much as myth thor. The hammer looks way better in the myths than MCU's
@@stjiub2201 I mean even Loki they didn't do a great job. In the original mythology Loki really isn't that much of a power hungry dick, most of the time he's using his trickster status to help the Aesir not harm them. Apart from the Baldur situation he was actually a great ally to them all things considered
@@tanaka173 Yeah, wasn't his children that were the evil ones or something? I just know from the events of ragnarok the giant serpent and Thor killed each other and Fenrir ate Odin.
Thor was never described as fat in either The Poetic Edda nor the Prose Edda. Every ancient depiction of him showed him being skinny. People really like to make it seem like GOW Thor is the most accurate Thor. He was never an abusive father or a recovering alchaholic that would kill his kids. He’s a protector of mankind that is more worshiped than Odin because he didn’t demand human sacrifices. GoW interprets his fight against the Giants as unjust when in the mythology literally states that he fights them to protect humanity.
@@ExcalibeonSwordofEeveelutions It's complicated is the best way to put it. Basically it was the Greek style trying to avoid their inevitable fate. I'll say right now that written accounts are sparse and more than a few scholars paint the Norse mythology as having been Christianized as it was written so we don't have the true original stories like we have in other myths. All 3 of Loki's kids (Hela, Jommugandr and Fenrir) were strong and destined to cause trouble. So the gods responded by essentially banishing or imprisoning them all. But in doing so they essentially punished them for existing, separated them from their family and made them bitter against Asgard. It's not really clear to me why Loki killed Baldur but after he did and Ragnarok started his spited kids all fought for him. In a way if the gods had never ousted them they probably would never have turned against Asgard in the end.
Gowr Thor has plenty of empathy and humility in my opinion, especially if you listen to his bedroom conversations with Sif. He openly admits that he needs to be a better husband and father and that he needs to stand up to Odin for once
@@CatNigga Odin cast a spell on Thors hammer to seal his powers and give them to anyone worthy. When Thor was worthy again he got his powers back. He doesn't need the hammer to use his powers but it's still a pretty good weapon. Like lets face it even with Thor using electeicity on his own that hammer still packed one hell of a punch. Plus it lets him fly too. And he can pin someone down instantly by dropping it on them.
@@regirock7313 sorry to burst your bubble but Kratos already visited Egypt and he didn't kill a single God there. The only thing that he killed (at least what the wiki mentioned) is a giant crocodile that is going nuts in a village
No, see thats the thing people forget. Kratos is honestly not that powerful outside of Greece. What made him able to easily kill gods was that he killed one of the fates, and then later got the other two. Which put everyone on par. But the fates are tied to Greece not the Norse pantheon they have the Norns and the Norns are alive. Meaning Kratos is only as powerful as the Norns want him to be while in the Norse pantheon range.
I thought the frozen lightning bolt was the combined power of the Leviathan axe and Mjolnir clashing. Ice freezing lightning. Has Faye ever fought Thor because I think there are more frozen lightning bolts in the game.
stop bringing up comic thor we are talking about the mcu one, its like cringy thor fans bringing up rkt when they lose an argument against their abusive father
@@davidreljac1707 We don't have a solid depiction of Thor, just a few words here and there and what to expect from the environment. Main thing we knew from actual texts is that he was more like a bear than a man, which GoW Thor definitely applies to more than Marvel Thor.
A little detail about Thor from GOW is that Kratos himself said that Thor was one, if not the hardest hitter hes faced. He hits harder than fuckin CRONOS
@@fireiron369 Thor rolling up to Thanos asking if he's a calm and reasonable person, then wondering why the dude that killed half the universe is so weak: 🤨
Me looking at thor hit the splits and stare down a floating motorcycle meanwhile gow thor sent the world searpent back in time Edit: hope yall doin good
That's such a weird thing for Thor to do. If he can send things back in time why doesn't he go back in time to stop Kratos from killing his sons and brother?
@@bruhb2104 Well then Kyle Reese this shit and have him hit someone from Asgard to send back in time to warn Magni and Modi. Why is sending things back in time even something he can do? He's the god of thunder not the god of time travel.
Whats crazy is that Thor and Kratos technically killed each other, a more almost for Kratos but he had the opportunity to, both of them are absolute beasts that MCU Thor wants no smoke with.
Honestly yea I feel like Thor from the Comics would put up a WAY better match up and just stomp GOW Thor, cause that Thor even when he is humbled can still be a savage
@@toosmoofoyou I think why everyones bringing up the comic Thor is because everyone knows the MCU Thor is the weakest one. So they're trying to bring up the one that's at least closer in power level.
Yeah but Comics characters are all wanked to hell and back by both the writers and fans so there's no point in bringing them into fights unless the characters there are equally absurd. It's just boring and pointless to do. Everyone already knows the answer, so why even talk about it.
Remember, Heimdall sees people's intentions and what they are gonna do and uses this to be untouchable in combat. One look at Thor, and he called him sick and walked away. Whatever he saw, he wanted none of.
The only one who scales close is Doctor fate. Wanda. And carol.(carol necause she is confirmes canonically to be able to move planets. She's likely planatery
@@thenexus7343 anybody who could do magic or has similar abilities ae Dr Strange and Thanos since magic can do crazy things. Edit: Potentially Odin (MCU Odin) as well
@@thenexus7343tbf none of them have shown multi-universal strength feats like Kratos flipping the 9 realms or Thor literally cracking the World Tree (you know reality itself). The closest in the MCU to that level of power is Infinity Ultron and even then he couldn’t destroy universes (he could break reality tho)

I love the fact that the clash creates a whole new landmark. Like you know for a fact that lightning tree will be visited like it’s one of the seven wonders of the world. More games should add permanent effects like this
When he told heimdall to look into his eyes and heimdall (someone who can read minds) said he was a sick man, that’s when I knew this Thor was DIFFERENT
Remember that Kratos (without Spartan Rage, while calm and while somewhat exhausted) was able to pick up and flip 9 REALMS at once! That puts him more on Base Goku’s level than MCU Thor’s
@@tomerabitbuleizen4992 well considering brok literally collected a gale of wind in a bag, i'd say that it could easily be possible that the temple flip literally equates to flipping the nine realms
I like how all the comments of gow thor fans get SUPER pissed when any other version of thor gets brought up, they just cannot handle the fact that gow thor is an ant compared to the comics
Not to mention that Thor was also holding back in that fight, as it was brought up later in the game that the All Father didn't allow him to kill Kratos... And yet he still did on accident...
Gow thor is literally just mythology thor with some extra side bits, but all his feats from mythology are still there they even mention some in the game so this one absolutely crushes it
Who would win, the hexsquad (Luz, Amity, Willow, Gus, and Hunter) or the hogwarts crew (harry, ron, hermione, neville, and draco) in a death battle, in the stadium in the coven convention episode, and they all have their palisman, glyphs, wands, and brooms, post collecter before they go back to the demon realm and post hogwarts battle, pre adulthood life
while the hex squad can be flexible (with their inflexible magic). The spells in Harry Potter can (and is) more powerful than some strongest spells seen in the owl house.
@@lawrencevalero8111 i mean luzes plant glyph could hold together a machine that the collecter was destroying and vs battle scales the collecter to large planet level, also willow could just take their wands really quick with her vines
I feel like the harry potter crew have a wider range of spells but they all need their wands and their made of wood. Hexide mostly just have one school of magic each but they can generate spells from their bodies. Why is splintering the World Tree a great feat you may ask, allow me to explain (this is gonna be a bit lengthy) The World Tree aka Yggdrasil is a massive tree... and also the physical representation or a higher dimensional construct of the Nine Realms of the Norse Cosmology which are Asgard, Álfheimr/Ljósálfheimr, Niðavellir/Svartálfaheimr, Midgard (The Mortal Universe where Earth resides), Jötunheimr/Útgarðr, Vanaheim, Niflheim, Muspelheim and Hel. Now each of these Realms are actually Worlds, or in simple terms, Universes and are infinite in size and the World Tree has branches that stretch into every nook and cranny of all these infinite Realms. So yeah, being able to damage even a small piece of an infinite higher dimensional construct quite literally puts you in a realm of infinity, because a little of infinity is still infinity.
Why is Thor killing Kratos a great feat you might ask, allow me to explain. As someone that played GOW from childhood, I do remember that at one point Kratos bonded with the concept of Hope making him unkillable and unbeatable as long as the concept of Hope exists; this is evident when he survived after he stabbed himself with the Blade of Olympus, a blade forged from the Heavens and the Earth (a Blade so powerful it could kill literally anyone, including its creator, Zeus, Zeus’ father, the Primordial Titan of Time Kronos and Gaia the Primordial Titan of the Earth itself) This basically indicates that GOW Thor possesses conceptual nullification, meaning he can kill the unkillable, beat the unbeatable, lift the unliftable and defy the very laws of any given concept (which makes sense considering he killed Kratos who is the personification of Hope and cannot be killed as long as Hope exists, and he damaged a piece of infinity via splintering the World Tree which defies the concept of infinity itself)
Another important thing to remember here is that Marvel's Asgardians (correct me if I'm wrong here) are just aliens. God of War's Asgardians are actual literal gods who control aspects of nature
The studio needs to hate it less in my opinion it wasn’t bad just unappreciated cause people thought it was going to be edgier then it was it was a part of my childhood and I say it was a great show
The reason there was ‘fixed lightning’ was because the lightning got frozen due to the frost of the Leviathin axe. It was said by the creators that the Leviathin axe was meant to be an equal to Mjolnir, not worse or better than it
That Thor scares me. We talk about someone having Black Air Force energy, this man IS Black Air Force energy! The boss fight had me pausing the game to wonder why I'm fighting Thor already.
There's actually one line that's stuck in my head that shows how weak MCU Thor really is in this matchup, and its when in the first Thor movie, Odin says that for all their power, they are still human. THAT LINE is what seperates these two Thors. MCU Thor is a god whos humanity overweighed his godhood. GOW:R Thor is a god who was shown no humanity and became THE God of Thunder
GoW Thor is too much for that man. Kratos has faded an entire pantheon, bodied titans the size of mountain ranges, and threw an entire world into chaos as a result. MCU Thor ain't ready for that type of smoke, let alone his GoW counterpart
Fanboys: "What about those back there?" *God of Bore 2018 & Ragnarok* Retailer: "Those Apple Fritters were triple glazed by mistake" Fanboys: "Triple Glazed? We'll take em!"
When Kratos and Thor fight, they freeze a lightning bolt and Thor says "this seems familiar" meaning that Faye and Thor have fought and froze lighting at least once before.
The big difference is that unlike most versions of his comic book counterparts, Mcu thor isn’t actually a god. They’re an alien god like being that inspired the myths of Norse mythology. GOW thor IS a god and fully divine, meaning he doesn’t just have an affinity towards magic and lightning, he is THE god of thunder, an actual conduit and source of it, a being with almost no one above him in his own domain that he is master of (at least within the Norse realms). We see this with the Greek gods when they died and caused environmental collapses because there was no longer somebody keeping their respective domains in check. Point is, “gods” in the Mcu die and have no effect on the rest of the world, gods die in GOW and there is a risk of the world ending because they are part of the original beings who created it.
Can we talk about the absolute character shine that goes on during this conversation? Thor comes knocking Kratos lets him into his home Neither is willing to drink with the other, because of their standards Odin waltzs in like he owns the place, _drinks from BOTH cups,_ and complains that Thor was funner when he drank (leading to him effectively crying in his beer, when Atreus sees him later on, just staring into his mead and in no mood to talk, but a sudden bar room brawl is a welcome addition to get his mind off of things)
In terms of power scaling, GOWR Thor is the most consistent. Perhaps the real reason why the MCU is so afraid of putting their version of Thor at his strongest is due to how absurd some of the feats of strength there are that has been displayed in Norse mythology, but God Of War is a franchise that's has never been afraid to show their characters at their fullest strength.
Imagine if they actually tapped into the theme of the Mask leading to answers about all creation. That would have been something to see. But GOW Thor annihilates 😂😂
The game devs have said the GOW gods are as powerful as their mythology counterparts with all the same feats, but they can't show that in gameplay because Kratos would be running around faster than light and hitting with infinite force, so no enemies other than boss fights would be any good. Now this Thor killed that Kratos.
GoW Thor is much closer to mythological Thor in terms of feats. For context... Thor once drank up part of the ocean, wrestled old age to a standstill, lifted the midgard serpent, and turned mountains into valleys... Utgard-Loki tried to humiliate Thor by tricking him into doing impossible things only to realize Thor was so insanely strong that the pranks nearly backfired and almost destroyed the universe...
GoW thor is actually, genuinely terrifying every time hes on screen. when i was playing, my heart was racing anytime thor was involved. it was fucking intensw
The game does a great job making Thor fantastic. He surpassed all my expectations. They made him fearsome and brutal but also made him an actual character rather than just a bloodthirsty killing machine.
The ONLY thing imma argue with is the fixing lightning in place. Technically Kratos did that and it wasn't even him bc Faye did it too which means it was the Leviathan Axe clashing with Mjolnir.
