Official pre-alpha demo footage of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, announced during the keynote presentation at Mech_Con 2016.
In MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries you will adopt the role of a rookie MechWarrior pilot thrust into combat as the Third Succession War continues to fracture the Inner Sphere. Take contracts from the factions of your choosing and engage in tactical, first-person, PvE ‘Mech combat through an immersive, career-based Mercenary campaign driven by player choice. Victory, prestige, and profit will not only require skill on the battlefield, but in the acquisition, maintenance, and enhancement of your BattleMechs.
Set for release in 2018, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is under development by a dedicated team at Piranha Games. MechWarrior Online, Piranha’s existing F2P multiplayer-focused tactical ‘Mech combat game, will continue its ongoing live development by the MWO team at Piranha.

+lupvirga MWO is a poorly balanced turd on the face of the franchise that hasn't seen a serious update in years, has maps designed around the long range PPFLD meta that almost outright ruin any other playstyle, and powercreep on the level of an MMO with every new mech that comes out usually having more hardpoints than the others, and the original mechs having barely enough hardpoints to continue to stay relevant. MWO can be enjoyable at times, but it feels like you're playing CS:GO. Mechs aren't tough, maps and gameplay leads to deathball tactics that, combined with the "alpha strike poke poke hide" gameplay of the "good players", make the issue even worse. I could go on, but this is RU-vid, not my personal soapbox.

i'd like to point out that TEAM IS OPED. the only ONLY time when i see a balance issue is when you play on Polar Highlands (fucking map is literally lrm hell personafide.) I'm going to tell you a few things that will knock those rose tinted glasses of your face. 1). Alpha Strike Poke Poke has been a thing sense the first MW game. It's an Effective tactic and you can't really balance for it. 2). Deathball tactics happen because they work, the TTK is low enough where TeamWork actually, Dare i say it, OPED!?!?! 3). Again, PPFLD and Poptarts have always been strong in ANY mechwarrior game and that's because it's easy to exploit the shit out of. 4).some mechs never shine because no one knows how to PLAY them right. Hot Super damaging builds where always a thing, ESPECIALLY in MW3 and MW4 It's not the best MW game but it's not THAT bad.

Aye such a shame the end product was a huge dissapointment. They should have spend more time working on the game, heck even upgrade the engine to Unreal 5 before releasing the current abomination which is pretty much single player version of Mechwarrior Online.

Absolutely! Literally all of the maps look identical, enemies just swarm from random directions by the dozen, mech customization is non-existent, the campaign and story are utter garbage, can't customize your company, and don't even get me started on the music...

@@cato3016 Yeah, I touch the game again occasionally just to be frustrated again by the mindless grind. Seems like even for MW veterans the game is just too barebones. To bad Piranha didn't get the money they needed to make it a good experience. Feels like No Man's Sky all over again. Well, I hope they put my money to good use for a better experience down the line.

Okay first thing right, UE4, DEFINITELY, second thing, sound design is actually GOOD, effects are GOOD. Though I will not forget that MWO also looked this good back when it was announced in 2011, and also let's not forget the MechWarrior 5 trailer from (2009?) that never happened. I have hopes for this but...I am also treading lightly.

There are a few things to remember about that announcement: 1) It was a concept, there was no work done on anything else, it was intended to get a publisher interested in supporting the project 2) There was a lawsuit with Harmony Gold over the use of the Unseen design of the Warhammer 3) PGI scrapped the original idea after the lawsuit and focused on a F2P multiplayer game 4) It was running on a different engine, PGI realized after the switch to Cryengine that it was more difficult to work with than they hoped, which is why so many gameplay elements were never able to make it into MWO

Minor correction - they adopted the F2P arena fighting model because IPG, the only publisher interested in the idea, and wasnt willing to back PGI unless it was done their way. What we see here now.... Is PGI self publishing, and with that, they are in control. Be cautiously optimistic.....

I hope to fuck they dont just scrap it like they did last-time. Between then and now, they decided to make some stupid game called Nanovor some somesuch. I remember the hype train derailing when they were revealed to be incompetent. Fuck me, that was a dirty time. Hopes up and shit, then BAM, right to the fucking ground. This looks promising, but hey, so it did last time. Also, I'm not giving MWO another damn dime until this is done. I'm also hoping t hat it doesnt have micro transactions, because my childhood memories of tabletop can only be so ruined before they're gone.

I'm so glad they went with the Mercenaries Idea, Mechwarrior 4 Mercs was simply a perfect game. Honestly if this one were to go almost the same path as the old game, it would be enough. I just hope they give us actual battletech lore, give us different paths to go by, and focus more on amount of missions and game play rather than a direct story of someone or the company. It's all about getting the job done and the pay dirt. What if these mercenaries were to cross paths with Spectre from the old game, or at least another relevant character or perhaps his grandchildren, would be an awesome small thing to add. Lastly I would say the one thing Mercs 4 was short off was the length and for me, the dialogue. I just love lots of voice acting in games, makes it feel alive, so maybe add extra dialogue for the leader and his comrades so that each play through doesn't get old quickly. (I played through Mercs: 4 campaign about 10-12 times) Oh and make the music bad ass please! #hype

MWO is still running, changes are being made, it is still under development, what's the issue? The MWO playerbase has been asking for a single player game for years, now it looks like we'll get it. It ain't that right to compare medium gamedev company that lamost entirely lives on the money of their fans to a huge manufacturer of decent electronic goods that are bought worldwide mainly because they have good reputation. Almost like comparing a single indie dev that makes his little game for several years and it comes out bad because it's his first ever big project to Infinity Ward/Activision combo that squeezes last drops of cash out of an old engine. There's no issue, it's just that we pretty much keep PG living as a gamedev company by throwing dosh at them so it's only natural to have expectations, influence and steer them somewhere at least slightly.

And as usual, this trailer ends up better than the finished product. Better graphics, much better UI and HUD, the Raven actually fell down slowly with some weight instead of acting like a GMod ragdoll, the reticle sways and bobs with the mech instead of being pinpoint accurate at all times... Fuck you PGI. You were baiting us even before the Epic fiasco the whole time.

1-1 Shadow Hawk-Raven... I'd say go for the cockpit and torso. No use legging it and slowly ripping it apart when you have more work dropping in. Shadow Hawk is nearly an exclusive mech for what I use, and I run into that situation all the time against Locusts and Ravens. It's why I packed my Shadowhawks with an ER-PPC and an LBX 10 AC with 40 shots. (Couldn't fit an AC-20... so went for next best thing, did dual ER-PPC's for a while but heat management... 4 shots back to back before an overheat.)

Well at least they've said it'll be priced as a normal single-player title, so no microtransactions. If there's anything in the game you have to pay more money for, I expect it'll be expansion packs or even just something like MW4's Mech Packs (which, unlike the MWO ones, just unlocks the new 'Mechs for purchase/salvage in the campaign with no restrictions on how many you can get). You know; the same sort of post-launch DLC a lot of games have that receives relatively few complaints.

*PGI, please implement mechbob that's more than just the HUD bobbing around in a completely static cockpit. The actual cockpit itself was pretty stationary in that video. The HUD display was really the only thing moving much.

Oh God, YES! Please, Single Player campaign, finally! Jesus Christ, it's been so long! Please, make it proper Mech Game, proper big scale maps and operations, non of this corridor map design. Enough with this World of Tanks bullshit... Also, like with previous games, *pleeease* release editing tools for the community, maybe MekTek guys will make a return in due time or a similar group will be formed, just give us the map editors and ability to add new models, design missions/campaigns and we're in haven...

For this one, yes. I'm tired of companies trying to revive Battletech, and fans carrying the weathered game on their backs. I just want it to STAY. The license jumps around more than Terminator and it's depressing. MSGS has left it to the wolves, and not the clan type, either. It's the beloved franchise that no one has heard of. If we fans don't support it? Who will? It's not exactly pop culture material. Right now, we got the founders backing it and game artists building it who love it as much as the fans still playing the table top game and old MechWarrior games. The devs aren't the most skilled and the budget isn't the largest, but they're pushing through with passion and attention to detail using what they know. It's in the best hands it's ever been in and probably ever will be. I'm investing in that.

I like that actual combat is slower. At least it feels little slower and it gives that feeling of ... you know we are fighting with giant multi tons mechs not some fast robotoys. So thats good. I hate all those fast mechs in MWO who run circles around you with full speed and shot you from all sides, and you cant even out turn them while staying in one place changing game into arcade shooter. Hope this wont happen here. Also heavy story driven single player with cool features, development, gradual upgrading, chellanging gameplay, participating in feels like real lance fights, customizations, and good role playing of mercenary mech pilot is something we all need now. So yeah cant wait to see this game out!

One of my biggest gripes with MWO is precisely that you CAN'T out turn a heavy or assault in a light, they rotate too fast, which is why lights and mediums are so uncompetitive.

They can. I dont know if everyone light can do it but if you instal good engines and got good turn skills activated you definitely can do this on level ground. Heck I was even out turn even when those sonofguns climb up. Many times. Thats why usually Im forced to just search for a wall and stand back to it.

Now this light Raven behave like real mech. He is fast but not crazy fast like in MWO. Also animation of walking and slowing down and speeding up looks better. Fire and effects looks much better. This is realistic. Wish they implement this into MWO.

What are you, in a Dire Whale? Are you just using a really crappy engine? I have no trouble outturning light mechs in my 75 ton heavies. Honestly light mechs would be pretty worthless if they weren't fast, that's their entire point. Not to mention they're this fast in lore anyways, the locust in lore moves at about 130 km/h. The dasher is even faster, since with MASC enabled it moves at a blistering 200+ km/h

Also think of it this way, you need people to operate them, he was already on scene and ready to fight, it would have taken a few minutes for soldiers to get there and who knows how long to load ammo into them. the fight was over in a few short minutes. Plus if you see enemies loading up, you normally take them out before they can become active. I just dont see where they had the chance to help.

IS mercenaries are required to join a union to work, its called the Mercenary Hiring Halls. And techs have their own union called, we are the only ones to know how to fix this Local 8, or in Davion space, NAIS

it does. You should be able to tell from the demo. But if you cant, the engine its made in is unreal engine and they support VR for at least those two(off the top of my head) So it would be highly strange if they didnt bother with the VR support. Given their trailer so far, doesnt look like it would be hard to add.

Epic has done some great work with VR improving the tech/efficiency of VR, they seemingly rewrote some of the rendering code for VR. Along with some other really great updates recently, This game and others should play allot better then current games. when they come out.
