This was the peak of Wings. They were a fantastic band with many more hits than most people realize. This song brings me back to a happy time! Absolutely love it!
I BASICALLY DESPISE THE BEATLES EXCEPT FOR ABOUT AN LP'S WORTH OF TUNES. SOLO- WINGS, PAUL (& LINDA), & DOWN FROM THERE W/LENOKO BRINGING UP THE VERY REAR IN TERMS OF MATERIAL I'D EVER WANT TO BOTHER LISTENING TO. I WAS SURPRISED AT HOW MUCH GOOD STUFF RINGO PUT OUT BUT NOT SURPRISED AT WHAT GH WAS CAPABLE OF DOING (CRACKERBOX PALACE, ET AL).
@@davedillon1372 I kinds get what you mean, early Beatles didn't make awful music. I just think it sounded a little boring and most of their songs have the same sound.
@@seltaeb3302 He couldn't even abide by his own lesson taught by the lyrics ...... keep your hand out of the medicine jar. Unfortunately, most of the rock artists back a generation and more ago, couldn't keep their hands, nose, or anything else out of the medicine jar and paid the ultimate price.
The classic Wings lineup - Paul, Linda, Denny, Jimmy, and Joe. What a fantastic band. A shame it didn't last longer. Thanks for this great quality upload.
I agree. But , I think they went as long as they could. Paul's writing became so pop that Jimmy lost interest and was left out of playing lead. Still, a great , super talented band ( Yes, even Linda contributed).
Wouldn't it be interesting to know what McCartney really thought about each of his respective Wings incarnations and the individual players, including Jimmy? The guy isn't for a moment in time candid....it's all very rehearsed and noncommittal ….
Yes, that's a good observation. He knew when to go static on the lines, and then when to go melodic on the lines. His rhythm on the bass also pushes the song along, like an engine. As you astutely observed, Matt, Mac did a good job on that bass line. That was perfect for the song. Honestly, Jimmy could have farted over the top of that rhythm section, during the solo, and it would have worked.
The pleasure and de-lite on Paul and Lindas faces show the proud moment in the Wings evolution with Jimmy. I heard they were devastted when Jimmy quit Wings. Another great talent that couldnt get off the Horse.
He is a great bass player. I don’t have great ears for music so sometimes I have a hard time hearing bass in the mix. The mix for this tour was perfect. I saw the Toronto, Ontario concert in 1976. Greatest rock show I’ve ever seen. They were tight, having fun, just spectacular. Man it was a lifetime ago.
God love Linda for clawing her hand in the medicine jar. RIP it iup Lady! You were mistreated by many. All you did is keep your husband happy. And Jimmy eas always brilliant. Both are missed.
For my money this is the best cut on the whole album. Brilliant! 1:53, Paul shoots a wink at Linda before letting Jimmy have the front line to himself. 2:38 Linda diggin' the solo too!
Linda was a sexy firecracker. It's a shame she had to leave us, and Sir Paul in particular. He was truly in love with her and I think in some instances he still is.
Jim, Joe, Paul and Linda really hit on something special didn't they? Such a great combo. A shame Jim couldn't get past his addiction. At least we have a snippet of what Jim could have been.
Beautiful Young Man:❤ Sad Tragic:!! Wish It Hadn't Happened:!! Sweet Guy ❤ Jimmy McCulloch So Tallented:!! Love You Young Man:!!❤ R.I.P..Never Forgotten:❤🥀❤
I saw "One Hand Clapping" in the movie theater yesterday. Most of the footage is from live studio performances circa 1973-74, and it was a real delight. They were really tight.
I saw this concert. Years later, I am struck by how much they seem like a family. It was a wonderful show. I was with my husband and just 20, and 8 months pregnant! We were huge McCartney fans...I still am.
I saw this concert in 1976 Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens . I was also 20 . I just had my daughter in late April and the concert was early May. My fav song from a great band I just couldn't miss it. My top was soaking wet 15 minutes into the concert lol.I hadn't heard of "Pumping" at the time . I can relate to you lol . Glad you got a chance to go :)
That was their best line up ever, not many people come from the biggest band on the planet…..and then go on and do it Again !! …but this terrific track by Jimmy for me showed that Wings were a complete Band in their own right…I can’t help but get a lump in my throat though when I see Linda back there on the keyboards.
How sad Jimmy McCullough is no longer with us. An excellent guitarist. He would have been the perfect replacement for Mick Taylor when Taylor left the Stones. Great tone, vibrato, taste level. This "kid" could play!
Jimmy McCullough as the young gun in this band was such a cool part of the dynamic. He could really play and was an authentic rocker so he helped keep the bar raised high!
@@guruuDev How is this a coincidence? McCullough was Irish and Jimmy was a haggis man. Their names weren’t even spelled the same. Where’s the coincidence?

Time for a new comment-- The year was 1975/76 and I was a young rebel who thought that he knew everything... so i left New York city and headed down to Hallandale Florida for some sun, women, and gambling. Of course i brought my guitar, had a Strat, which i still play today, but along with some other ones. Jimmy was one of my idles. Alright so we all were 'dopes' back then, but who cared? Went to work at Dania Jai Jali punching tickets for the '' Telebet '' girls (30 of them and just me punching tickets, thank you Lord) at the Fronton. Joined a band and did some local clubs and different gigs here and there. I tried to play like Jimmy, but you can't do better than the best...Best time of my life! Women, money, music, mood changers, beaches, had it all... and lost it all gambling... But Jimmy was my inspiration so i finally realized you can't win at horses and other various gambling types of things i did. But my life is based on Jimmy McCulloch. He was about my age, and could play the sand off the beach! Then one day, i heard Jimmy died of a drug over dose,,, i couldn't believe, some (expletive deleted) probably gave him bad dope. So i will end it here, but just wanted you younger people to know that life was much better then than now. So any young rebels out there, you are not as smart as you think,,, i know you will have to find out the hard way like i did,,, but if you can, sell your bike and invest it in an education so you don't end up old and broke like me.
@@chrome50 Thanks, and like you said, "time moves on". So you are probably my age plus or minus... and a person does learn as 'old mother time' keeps moving (Probably on a Harley), we keep learning new things. But I certainly like the 'good old days' a lot more than the 'now days', since I have too many ailments to even start listing them. I guess we pay a price for having fun when we were young, but I wish it wasn't so expensive. (But then (and not to be prejudice) most of the women I have been with want nice things, and it is not in the dictionary, but nice means expensive!
It's funny and you can't get away from it , Paul was concerned about getting a guitar player for wings that wasn't a junkie, but here comes jimmy mac, it goes with the territory the best ones sometimes are he was handling it fairly well.
Presented ... In my opinion he would have become one of the greatest guitarists on the list! But the thing is unfortunately that some people, that would be the greatest one talent in life, is not enough! They apparently need to turn to different stimulants. There are good words in the song: Time heals, but very slowly .. Jimmy unfortunately just did not have enough time ...
I assume you're speaking of Buddy Holly--yes, he was also a colossal talent. I have often wondered, though...if he had lived, would the Beatles ever have come into existence?
Yes, So Many More Years:!! My Deepest Sympathy:!!🥀 Jimmy McCulloch One Of A Kind:!! Magical Guitarist:🥀 Wings, McCartney, Linda, Denny, Joe English:!! +Jimmy 🥀🥀WINGS GREATEST BAND🥀🥀
@@landonschertz2325 Whilst one could argue that, as you seem to imply with your comment, someone could accidentally O.D. and die first time dabbling with heroin/morphine and not be a junkie, Jimmy McCulloch was no stranger to heroin. As unfortunate as his death was, it came as no surprise to those who knew him.
I experimented with substances in the 70's and it didn't turn out well. In fact I was declared clinically dead twice before I turned 21. I decided drugs weren't my friends. I still don't think they are. If I had been able to realize that alcohol wasn't my friend either I could have avoided becoming an alcoholic but thank God I've been sober for over 27 years. I'm also tired of watching people enslave themselves to drugs to death. It's frustrating and heartbreaking to watch them destroy their souls and the souls of all that love them.
This is so sad that Jimmy wrote two great anti-drug songs (Medicine-Jar & Wino-Jonko) and ODed on heroin.at 26 years old . It devastated Paul and Linda 'cause the kid was so talented and loving & both Paul & Linda tried SO hard to set him straight. . Here you can see Paul smiling like a proud papa. One thing I LOVE about Paul. If he is in a band with a name he is always a member of the band and and plays the other members' music with the same gusto he does his own. And you have assholes , (John ass lickers) accusing Paul of being a megalomaniac. Most of us are blown away by what The Beatles did but Paul was AS good a song writer and performer with Wings as he was with the Beatles and is as a solo.act.
@@paulhutchinson6552 You're fucking stupid lol. Harrison and Lennon were pretty much non existent in the 70s. Their careers was mediocre at best. I doubt you've heard anyone on of their solo albums from the 70s lol
Lennon certainly did, and by 1969 George was catching up big time...another Harrison track on Abbey Road instead of the ho-hum 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' would have elevated that album to even bigger status, and no, I am not a McCartney knocker..'You Never give me your Money' and She Came in through the Bathroom Window' and the medley at the end from that album are first rate, and going way way back to 'Things we said Today' and 'For No One' but Paul did let the band's legacy down with a lot of crap through the Beatle years...'Till there was You' (a cover)...why did the other Beatles agree to that? 'When I'm 64' on Sgt Pepper's? I'll take Paul's 'Penny Lane' over that any day. 'Honey Pie'..okay for a Paul solo album...diminished the great 'white album' a little bit there.
Tim Hand Weed is a soft drug and is barely different to alcohol in its negative effects. Drugs like heroine and meth however are extreme drugs that are extremely bad for you. Seriously, most people have a spliff in their life; weed is so overrated.
haven't watched this since I was a young bedroom guitarist, adoring the great PMC and not really paying much attention to how great Jimmy was. This cut really rocks. And more so I enjoy seeing PMC as a "Back up musician" on a cut. Playing some serious bass on this cut. What a killer band that was. I wish in some ways PMC would have chosen the route of sharing the lime light position, instead of just being the boss of a band. He seems to really shine when some one else is the center of attention. Almost as if he can kick back a bit and just have some fun.... Can't say it enough, this really kicks.
When the camera first locked in on Jimmy and Paul on the chorus, I picked up a John and Paul vibe... could have used a lot more of these two playing together- they clicked....
I saw Paul on this tour. There were a lot of pieces in the band with keyboards for the McCartney's, and a horn section. However, when Jimmy McCulloch played, Wings had a real metal sound.
What a waste Jimmy McCulloch....great guitarist...should still be around in 2019 in whatever band it doesn't matter. Hope your next life is better Jimmy.
Venus and Mars is a pretty good album, but Medicine Jar just blows most of it out of the water. And I say this as a lifetime Paul lover, who's favorite song has been Band on the Run since I was like, 5 years old.
The guy was amazing . The only people who will know the truth are his immediate family and quite rightly so. So input of how or why he died are irrelevant and not helpful .Only thing that matters is his legacy.
Jimmy was my classmate in school at Cumbernauld, Bonnie Scotland & didnt have a farm or sheep! He was a nice quiet kid with hair & gear that made me jealous. I joined army & in 1969 on TOTP was Jimmy with Thunderclap Newman. One hit wonder but a great one. Ok Jimmy and Macca. He composed 2 songs with Wings that Paul incredulously, for him, allowed to be on Wings albums. Not composed with Paul, just stand alone by Jimmy & also in concert at their best period (Paul really enjoys playing this as its a funky little number). Jimmy is the only person as a band member to have ever done this whether The Beatles or John Paul George. And Paul is the most controlling so its surprising he allowed it. Denny Laine never had this tho he co-composed with Paul. Well done Jimmy, you would have been a multi millionaire mate. Still family gets it. His first group, One in a Million, was with his brother & he snuck of school to go to Decca, London to cut a single which sank without trace tho he did meet the Stones. Jealous again. Miss you mate.
Absolutely, Definitely Should Get More Recogniton"!! Jimmy & Joe Completed WINGS:!! Along With Our Sir.Paul McCartney & Lovely Linda:!! Congratulations Jimmy/ Joe U Were Fantastic Thank You Guys:!!🥀
Except for a couple of notable differences: height (Paul being close to 6', Jimmy not a lot over 5') and chin/jawline (Paul's has always been firm, even verging on jutting; Jimmy's tended to recede). But I agree that they did look at least as though they could be related.
Sad this song refers to exactly what killed Jimmy McCulloch. He died at 26 from a combo of morphine and alcohol. Jim was not known as a heavy drug user. What a great talent taken way too young. Paul and Jimmy were so tight here!
Jimmy's life was sad. I assume that young girl waving to him early in the video was his girl. I do know that McCulloch was, at one time, rated one of the best lead guitarists in the world. You can never take that away from him.
Well good blues/rock players are not in short supply. If you're getting real, these guys don't compare to the prowess of jazz players on the guitar. Yes, it's a different style, but rock/blues is much more simplistic, too. Keep it real. Jimmy had a nice feel on guitar. He was not highly innovative. He was a competent rock player. That's all he had to be. If you truly want to get into great guitar players listen to Tal Farlow, Joe Pass, Tommy Emmanuel, etc. Go listen to Django Rinehart (that was even Jimmy's hero.) Good rock guitar players are pretty much a dime a dozen. Practically every town in the U.S. has good rock players.
@@KenTeel Yes there are millions and millions of technically extremely proficient players - but it’s not about that. It’s about how they use that proficiency. The tone they use, what they choose to play... etc. There’s that famous saying about it’s all about the notes you choose not to play, not just mindlessly screaming up and down the fretboard in A minor.
Just like BIRISHPM comment below, Jimmy McColluch lost his life 3 yrs later fighting his own medicine jar. He actually composed the music score for MEDICINE JAR. Autopsy: heart failure due to morphine and alcohol poisoning. Rest in Peace Jimmy!
Saw the Wings over America tour at the Atlanta Omni, what a great show. Probably my favorite cut from the album. My buddy who had the tickets unfortunately succumbed to the same end as Jimmy. RIP guys.
It is INSANE how good they are n so cute how Paul is bopping to jimmy like a proud papa. Rip jimmy denny n linda Wish you all were still here to repeat this performance 💗🙏🏻
Great tune! Pretty ironic though, that Jimmy and Colin Allen wrote this one, and also Wino Junko off of Wings at the Speed of Sound, and then Jimmy died at 26 of an overdose!! Jimmy, what were you thinking ???

The whole song reminds me of the guitar solo part in ''Money'' by Pink Floyd from the Dark Side of the Moon album. Most of all because of the beat and rythm but also the guitars and bass parts. Again the harmony also resembles a twelve blues bar.
Plus this is an amazingly great video of a live performance. Must have taken five cameras? The relationship between Jimmy and Paul shows in various microseconds.
a rather powerful performance by the late Jimmy McC. I used to listen to this on vinyl and always thought Paul sang lead on it. this was my fave from that album.
A live performance of "Medicine Jar" by Wings recorded during their 1976 "Wings Over America Tour". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fF6EKawN_e8.html The track is an anti-drug song by Jimmy McCullogh (4 June 1953 - 27 September 1979) from the 1975 album "Venus sand Mars", which was Paul McCartney's first post-Beatles album to be released worldwide on the Capitol Records label and a significant spring for a year long world tour. Little did Jimmy or Macca know that the former musician would be dead of a heroin overdose only a year or so after this performance.
