I never did understand how this wasn't a hit - I think the groove is amazing and a really powerful bass line. Just another in the seemingly endless list of great little songs that Macca came out with.
The album version is softer compared to this live version. Some of Paul's best stuff comes from his live performances. He just adds so much more to his songs when he plays live compared to their vanilla album versions. Every song in this Rockshow concert is better than their album versions.
@Joy Stinson this channel isn't Ana Parada's and it has NOTHING to do with her extremely disrespectful and false theories and rambling about Jimmy's personal life. He didn't have any children nor was he married. I'm not sure why you think this is her channel but please know that this channel is a labor of love for Jimmy's music and memory. I don't deal with disrespectful people like Ana Parada who constantly spam my videos with her disrespectful questions and theories about Jimmy's personal that are 100% false. Thanks.
And they're harmonies were great I saw Paul later on with his other bands but the harmonies and the band between Denny Linda Paul and Jimmy were amazing
How can you even say that. John Lennon never got to live, to show what awesome songs he would of written. But what he did was great! He was, The Leader of the Band!!
@@karendurbin9460 I can say it bc it’s true. Just watch videos of them both performing live. Lennon basically stopped performing mid-70s bc of stage fright. As far as being the “leader of the band,” there was no official leader of The Beatles. But Lennon more or less led them until 1965. By ‘66, Lennon & McCartney were co-leaders. From ‘67 to ‘70, McCartney was their clear leader. Even Lennon acknowledged that. Lennon didn’t die until the Beatles had been broken up 10 years. During those 10 years, Lennon had only one #1 song (which he needed Elton John’s help with), and a scattering of tepidly-received albums. McCartney had at least seven #1 hits, a TON more Top Tens, a 5-6 consecutive #1 albums. In 1975-76, McCartney & Wings performed one of the best worldwide concert tours ever, which then produced a live #1 triple-record album. Lennon didn’t even produce any music, nor tour from 1976-mid-1980. He was tragically killed shortly after finally releasing a so-so album, which was released to mediocre response by fans and critics alike. After his senseless murder, it then went to #1. So I’d say he had plenty of time to write good songs between 1970 - 1980, and had a few good ones, but his output was quite inconsistent.
@@karendurbin9460 John did play live and had plenty of chances to do more of it. When he did, he couldn’t touch Paul’s live performances. Doesn’t matter if he was the “spiritual” leader of the Beatles. That means nothing for live performances
I used to "have to" play this song 5 times before I played the rest of Wings Over America. I'm proud to say that this song was one of the many great songs that enabled me to have tinnitus. 😊😂
Jimmys guitar playing energized the band. Very noticeable on many songs by the looks of his band mastes with his good fills etc. Natural and tasteful player
The kid played Exquiste Rock Blues,, the SG with P90s... When have you heard a live performance where the guitar was going through the entire song. I agree they were warming themselves by the dying embers of a brilliant fire.
Far out song and i do feel like Letting Go at times. 6/22/76 will always be one of the highlights of my life. I got to see Wings at the LA Forum. First of 4 times seeing Sir Paul rocking out.
That must have been a great show! Would have loved to be there in 76. Another album cut that was just OK then, and sounds way better here live; decades later!
@@BegoneJonah Lol I was definitely stoned when I wrote this comment 4 years ago 😂 all the songs you listed are probably definitely better. But this live version still rocks!
i keep coming back to this. I know its not the WoA version but id love for Paul to release that album without all the overdubs. hes reissued and remastered that album so many times, i want something else!
I saw his 1976 tour at the Cow Palace in San Francisco was stationed at Travis Air Force Base what a great concert was about 20-20 yards from the front standing Room in that area maybe 30 yards at the most unbelievable concert never realized what I was seeing well I did but until many years later listening to these songs
Paul and Linda, do not get enough credit, for being the originators, of the mullet, before anyone else thought about it. This is in 1976...way before the mullet hit its heights in the 80's. Awesome. 😎
these guys are a great if not one of the best rock bands ., all their songs ,music ,lyrics .....................arrangements .. wings you will live till the end of times ., thank you for such joy you have giving us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PJBDX wrote this: "Paul knows that Jimmy has always been his best guitarist." McCartney has had six main guys as lead guitarists in his live touring bands: George Harrison, Henry McCullough, Jimmy McCulloch, Laurence Juber, Robbie McIntosh and Rusty Anderson. They have all been exceptional in their own way.... but it could be argued that Jimmy might have been the most gifted or naturally talented. Btw... Paul McCartney also deserves recognition as a lead guitarist - as he has created some outstanding lead guitar work beginning with The Beatles in the 60's and continuing right into the 21st century. And... Paul has also had many other outstanding guitarists work with him in the studio (and live) over the years - such as: Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Joe Walsh, Carl Perkins, Hank Marvin, Jeff Lynne, Steve Miller, Mick Green, Hugh McCracken, David Spinozza, Eric Stewart, Dave Edmunds.... and at least a dozen others (including his own son, James).
Anyone who criticized Mccartney's playing should listen to this live and on the record. It's groovin'. Also......Jimmy is just perfect (RIP) and Joe English- one of the most underated drummers of all time.
Dang! Flat out jeepers!!! Crisp exquisite Gibson SG playing with a pretty good song... The song starts and I'm "Camera on the f ing guitar retawd"!!!! Could here him beginning til end. The wings songs were great, and yes the Horns and Paw were gre8...!!!
Wings toured the world and became the best-selling pop act of the 1970s, with an astonishing 27 U.S. Top 40 hits (beating Elton John's 25) and five consecutive number one albums, including the highly acclaimed Band on the Run (1973) and Wings at the Speed of Sound (1976).
I would have to say that Paul is a bass player that is unreal and to sing and do his bass lines without a miss is something (IMO) better than Sting from the police and he is good If Jimmy was still alive today between him and Paul could have been another story as Paul was always good with words and music as Jimmy just played guitar and wrote a few songs with Wings
Perfect, I still can't believe that I heard this masterpiece song live for two days in the row, on 3 and 4 of december in Belo Horizonte, Brazil; thanks for this gift Paul, Letting Go is one of my favorites for life!!! 🤘❤❤❤
As I said after they played HI,Hi, Hi 22 May 1976 at the Boston Garden, and I remember because I recorded the show(in excellent sound) at the time : "The Best Damn Band Alive!"
Great song but what a shame they didn't focus on McCulloch's solo at the end of the song. I remember seeing them live in Kansas City on this tour and it was one of the best shows that I've ever seen.
