If you've enjoyed tours with Chad Husby at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden on this channel in the past, then you will likely enjoy this comprehensive and meditative 1-hour botanical tour featuring over 60 plants. Has elements of botanical ASMR, but largely more meditative in nature.
Please keep in mind that this film was done pre-coronavirus, so wearing masks and staying a 'safe' distance was not required, but thank you to all who express concern.

I'm crazy about botanical illustration, yet I still didn't know about Margaret Mee. Her story with the moonflower has touched me profoundly, she is my new heroine! Synchronizing herself with nature's rhythm, attempt after attempt until finally witnessing the moonflower and showing it to the world for the very first time. What a demonstration of perseverance, humility, true respect, and devotion!

This is so gorgeous. He reminds me of my 'grandpa'. We're not related by blood, but he was a close family friend with the sweetest soul ever. When I visited his home in Japan at 10 years old, he showed me this tranquil little greenhouse he and his wife set up when they first got married. It immediately felt like home. It was filled in every corner with all sorts of tropical plants you could find in Southeast Asia, hanging plants scraping my face gently as I walked through exploring every interesting leaf I could find. He broke off a leaf from his alocasia and gave it to me to press in a book. A month after we got home, we were informed that he passed away after an accident while climbing the Japanese Alps. I don't exactly remember how I reacted since then, but I found that leaf, beautifully preserved, three years ago today. I've been collecting plants since then. As an under-20 year old plant lady from the Philippines, this is my dream. To curate a beautiful greenhouse, protecting endemic and rare flora and fauna and spend most of my life exploring and educating others about the importance of preserving forests in the country. Right now I'm working towards a degree in social studies as a compromise with my parents, but hopefully I get to use this as a tool to start advocacy work with the people who have just as much passion for plants and nature. I always get told I'm such a 'grandma' for having so many plants, but I like to think it has made me a better person, much like all of the other plant folks here 😊 getting an alocasia sanderiana in a few days, maybe I'll name him after my ojiisan?

it's astonishing what this man knows about plants. And the respect and love and tenderness in the way he talks about these plants, and touches them. Chad, thank you for sharing your knowledge and gift of plant storytelling. You’re a natural at this and I hope you’re giving many in-person tours to those visiting. And Summer, as always thank you deeply for the work and effort you put into creating these videos. You provide for many of us a window into a world we would otherwise never get to see, as people who love plants and have them in our homes, but don’t necessarily have a profession in botany/horticulture and access to these networks.
