Whether you are new to creating a tropical garden or you are looking to add some low maintenance tropical style plants to your established patch of paradise, this video should help you choose some great plants. I'll share a short list of some of my favourite trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and climbers that will add to the tropical look in UK gardens or gardens anywhere with a similar climate. Each of these plants are low maintenance, easy to grow, cold hardy and above all they should all be very easy to buy for the majority of us gardeners. I also share some tropical garden design tips, helping you take steps to create a tropical jungle vibe in your patch of paradise.

You can plant taro 3:22 . I saw a video here in yt successfully harvest taro tubers. In asia they even eat the leaves and stem.

I think a massive one that people don't think about enough is adding a water feature. Not only does this create a nice passive background noise, it attracts wildlife and gives you the chance to try growing some aquatic plants and maybe even keep fish (depending on the size of the pond). I am growing bog arums and water lilies in my border in a multi-tiered mini pond and it definitely fits the aesthetic.

Great design and advice video (as always) thanks. Have you tried spider plants (Chlorophytum) for a tropical effect? I was not a fan because of their 1970s house-plant status but I was gifted four different types and I am now experimenting with the hardiness of them, left in the ground. I left them in the beds and in a hanging basket in the cold glasshouse over winter - the leaves died back in the cold but the fat, white, tubers survived and they have sprung back to life looking fresh and perfect. Next step... trying them outside in the garden. They give a great tropical effect and are so easy to reproduce with the platelets they make.

Hi Craig, thanks for this video. What you are able to achieve in the space you have really inspires me to build on what I have. My climate isn't as favorable as yours (USDA 5a) but I have successfully grown several of the plants you featured today. I continue to research how to overwinter things. You explain everything so well, and touch on many things that help me as I build my knowlege about tropical plants. Thanks 🌴

Hi from Netherlands. Why don't you try Lanonia dasyantha. It can tan min. Minus 3. I have many seedlings so I will introduce some to my garden, and hide if really cold.

Great video. How is your musa so tall? I have a few in the garden, but whenever they get to a decent size, they fruit and then die, leaving the pups to take over.

Nice list Craig! I have found that Fatsia, if they have new growth coming out and they get frosted back, it makes them branch and be more full, which sometimes is nice.

Great video craig, a question I have for you is do you ever look back on your older videos of when you first started your tropical garden and wish you kept it that way?

Thanks! I look back at the old garden but only to see what worked and inspire me for future projects 😀

Do you have any plants you would recommend for southeastern US zone 7b ?

Do you have any experience of Eryobotrya deflexa? I gather it's a little smaller and that the new leaves are red, both of which would be a bonus. I've no idea it it's equally cold/frost tolerant though.

Really like the loquat tree. My loquat is not doing well. New leafs curling and browning... typical

My auntie brought some loquat fruits back from Morocco and gave me the nuts, and 6 years later, mine's 12 feet tall. However I have found it very hard to get cuttings to grow from it

Hey Craig, do you know any suppliers I could get a "brassaiopsis mitis" from? I can't seem to find any suppliers for them. Do you know any sources for them?

Not at the moment, give it a few weeks and some online nurseries may have them back in stock. Thanks for watching 😀
