Mega Man X: Corrupted Releasing in 11 Years?!? 

This is the stupidest video I’ve ever seen on this game, your really thought you did something here. You realize the game has been ported from html to flash meaning they started from the bottom within those years. The whole reason for the switch was so development could speed up, the new platform made things easier for them to create such a big game. And If you had any lick of sense when it comes to development you’d realize the progress starts to ramp up once the ground work is already there. You’re basic middle school math doesn’t account for any of this.

Not going to lie, seeing this being completed in between 5-15 years is kinda understanding, but I wouldn’t keep my expectations high, considering the slow progress of the game development I would say it’s in between 12-15 years. The question/ that remain are: “Will people still be wholeheartedly waiting for this game that was announced around 15 years ago in 12-15 years?” And “Will this game surely be released? Or Capcom already hit him and he cannot release it.”

If it's true, i'll be 34 or 35 when this game comes out... I mean is earth or humans are going to be around when the time this game releases, Who knows? A nuclear war could happen, earth's plates could shift, Yellowstone could erupt, or a supernova erases earth from existence. All I know is that this game is taking FUCKING FOREVER to be done. And my hype has been long gone.

Also keep in mind, they are not receiving any funding to develop this game.

This game should had been completed around 2012(2015 since he did supposedly lost almost all data around 2010)tops its just too ambitious and that has slugged development, also no public demos in more than a decade of development is just dumb in my opinion. The math isn't accurate as it assumes equal progress each year. It would be more accurate if you got the actual progression of checkboxes year over year then applying the previous year progression value combined with the year over year growth rates. ...might be best to use a 3 year rolling average

This development cycle is stupid. So by the time it comes out the games dev time would be nearing 30 years. No game takes that long. It better be the best game on the planet

All boxes aren't made the same, progress is never constant and as you mentioned those boxes can have lots of progress and not be checked. that's why it doesn't give a percentage, because it'd not be accurate at all. Check the Saturday streams and official discord, that'll give you a better idea of actual development times.

As they always say, you can't rush art and this game from my point of view is a fine piece of art just like Black Mesa that took more than 10 years to be completed by Crowbar Collective.

The developers(they're doing a great job) still have a lot of work, I think they need a little more time (about 5-6 years) and the game will see the light of day.

ok from what ive heard the project was reset in 2012 with almost everything being remade from the ground up, theres also the change in source code so that definitely had an effect on the game's development, jokes aside tho this is a great video, im laughing at those who actually took it seriously

Edit : bad information (i didn't realize the boxes were subdivided into 3 each one, and conditions were removed from spreadsheet). correct information at the end... I though iit was like this: Now on 28/03/2024 there are 269/363 boxes checked.. so there are 94 left. but there are more than 1 year ago spreadsheet.. now it has been updated to full features.. so we can have that as reference. Past year were 148/256 boxes. 269-148 = 121 boxes completed in one year. just one year.. we can conclude that the game should be released in 1 year at maximum (2025). but lets be realistic.. at least 2 or 3 may be a better aproach.. So we could say this game could be released in 2 or 3 years aprox.. without taking in count the progress already advanced on each box unchecked of the 94 left (current). That was so wrong... Edit: Correct Info (almost): in the current spreadsheet (28/03/2024) there are 70/111 groups of 3 boxes (started/50%/99%) checked. that corresponds to the old spreadsheet "Stage" boxes section showed in the video. (less than half of total boxes). "Conditions" boxes section are now hidden (hope not unfinished bc are a lot). Also on the old "Stage" section showed in the video there was 41 unchecked.. comparing with the current group of boxes (111), were 70 boxes completed a year ago.. Now, one year later.. if in one year there are 0 new boxes checked count.. that is a 0% of progression.. so i am sorry to say that the development of the game would be at least infinity years more.. Edit #2: isn't really like that.. some boxes were changed to unchecked due to redesign of the levels and others were added.. so we can count on that we have some good progress in one year.. but if we don't take in count future updates to tiles or maps/enemies we can expect that the development will not be prolonged to much.. but if we are realistic.. at least 8 years more.. Hope this gives hopes to the MMXC community :3

11 years should be long enough for me to start learning game design and start my own Mega Man X fangame project, still tho, I've been keeping up with this project since I was 12, so I'm really hoping they get to finish the game and release it, everyone would benefit from it as it would be the most ambitious and complete metroidvania style Mega Man X fangame yet, and it would be totally free for everyone to play and enjoy.

to me it seems like they remake everything too much for mmxc. just compare the old music/character/graphic designs with the new ones, some have gotten better over time but other designs have changed to something completely different now. even if they complete a level or finish the games soundtrack or a boss etc they might decide to recreate it again at any time.

Since this video, 13 months have passed. There have been some more boxes checked, but there have also been some boxes unchecked and boxes even outright removed. Most removed boxes were checked as well, so we can also assume here that JKB just threw out some hard work and wasted time on it. Typical 😏.... As much as the removed checked boxes sound bad, there are almost the same amount of boxes (from 256 to 255) so they've probably just been repurposed. But what is a real concern is the unchecked boxes, because that means he can uncheck any boxes he would like to undo and rework many things in the game, going in an endless development cycle. Heck! I could even imagine him restarting the game from scratch. Since the video, there were 148 checked boxes, now there are 170. Previously yielding a completion of 57.8125%. Now, the completion percentage is (a solid 2/3 or) about *66.67%*. (85 boxes remaining.) If we generously round up the 13 months to a year, that means the completion rate of the game is about 8.85% per year. Applying it to the uncomplete percentage (1/3) divided by the rate, it would net about 3.75 years, rounding it up for a safe time factor; That means the game could be complete in 4 years from now. That doesn't mean that TankAnSpank was completely off the mark. This was just an observation and interpretation of the numbers on hand, that isn't the whole truth and there are many factors at play. Because you have to keep in mind that JBK has and could uncheck boxes if he wants to at any given point in development. And I remember his nature of changing and reworking things constantly despite being finished over and over again and taking way too much time on deciding things that would ultimately just halt production. Not to mention, how mad he gets if anyone asks for even a time estimate even if that person is uninformed of the situation. Or even the fact that he doesn't want to give the option to the fans of choosing the old soundtracks playing in-game over the newer ones, just because he's hardheaded. He may have crafted a great game, but he still makes the worst of choices for everyone else. The number I provided seems to be optimistic for now compared to when the project started in 2007 (as provided on JBK's new website). Yet, 4 years is still nothing to laugh at, 4 years is a complete high school graduation in the U.S., that is still quite a long time. And as I've said, the project started 16 years ago, so this is more of a wake-up call rather than a finish line. Maybe I would come back here next year and see if the rate has increased or decreased, and I have a feeling it's most likely gonna be the latter. So, what I'm trying to say overall is; be cautiously optimistic with this sudden advance of an expected/estimated release date. I'd like to also say that TankAnSpank could have contributed in informing the masses of the game's progress so that it would have prompted JKB to finish up faster. The fact that he could be way off the mark of the release date is all for the better of the game, and his video would be essential for the game's faster completion. But he did also say to be skeptical despite giving it a range of 5-15 years. If it actually becomes 5 years, that would make this video still accurate to begin with.

I don't know of you are serious or not, but you should know that the development would speed up as time goes. Going by upload dates is inaccurate, because JKB wasn't seriously developing the game by then. You can tell by the gameplay, which uses assets from old X games. It's hard to say when he actually decided to start developing the game for real. I'm optimistic and I'm going to say that the game will come within 5 years or so. Remember, they only check the boxes when they are a 100% complete. You don't really know how much they have already made. The tileset for Strike stage 3 might be 99% complete for all we know. Maybe they have all the corruptor battles already planned out but haven't gotten to the animation part yet. Plus the team seems to be motivated to finish the game.

So in other words Star Citizen has more of a chance of releasing before this. I might as well forget about this game

I saw this project about 2 or 3 years ago and I was blown away by the detail hearing this makes me happy that it hasn't been shut down by Capcom yet

This is my take not to fuss with anyone but I figured I put my input on. Some might know this and some may not but it will at least give some context and understanding I hope Well you gotta take a lot of factors in: One is this is a free product which means the person making it has their own life and job to focus on while finishing this product in his free time so the factor of time comes in(from my memory he's also a data analyst at another company) The other part is that it's a lot of features(he's using features from all 8 x games and even some new additions), tiles, bug checking, coding, ai for both enemies and bosses etc as this is different from your average MegaMan X game and it's also open world. So when you factor that in well it's gonna take some time Another point is when a Megaman X game was rushed well we got x6 and x7. X6 while flawed I still enjoyed X7 that's another story lol. He doesn't have the big team that Capcom folks would and none of the pressure of deadlines to rush it. Also those few folks who do help him in their spar time also have their own affairs to handle outside of helping with the fan game. When he doesn't update on RU-vid (the most recent update on RU-vid is January of this year 2023) he's putting updates on Twitch showing what he's doing in the Haxe program(Twitch and Discord are the best options to keep up to date with it). Which brings me to my last point. He originally did this in Flash but Flash is now no longer in use so he now uses Haxe Visual Studio Code. So that added on to the process and changing the code over from flash to Haxe. So taking those things into consideration I think it makes sense why such a product has taken so long. To add on for those saying this MegaMan fan games are usually not bothered as long as they are not being paid for it. Fan games are usually free and heck Capcom supported MegaMan X Street Fighter and didn't bother MegaMan Unlimited (they even had Comet Woman from that game on their official page before) so the I feel it's less likely for that to happen unless again they are getting paid off it or it's resident evil(that's their biggest money maker so that makes sense) I do hope it does release and feel it will be well worth it but until it does I understand there will be theories and speculations no matter what.

There is some hidden cost to consider and it's related to feature creep. As long as a software keeps growing, adding more features without breaking changes is slower than in the prime of the product so unfortunatelly could take more than the estimated time on the video. Also, refactoring things is something usual, nevermind new ideas that are not on the excel sheet.
