you're right anthony, queen elizabeth's death was so far-reaching and consequential to many fools as to be labeled a "mega death". still wack that you killed her, but thanks for labeling it appropriately!
melon, as a british citizen, i found this to be a touching tribute to our long serving and dedicated monarch. thank you for this on behalf of my country. unsubscribed.
@@antonpopescu1261 it's like he didn't even listen to the album the dead the dying and the sick was about the black plaugue hitting the shores of sicily on a boat where everyone had it so the words make sense totally as for the mission to mars he said it was about dave wanting to be a astronaut he couldn't be more wrtong if he bothered to listen to it as for dave wanting war is he even a megadeth fan? dave is against war in all forms he named his band megadeth to serve as a warning not because he wanted megadeth I unsubbed after this review gotta find someone who actually does their homework before they say stupid shit
This album is a banger. Couple of skip tracks but Nightstalkers, soldier on, we’ll be back great tunes. This is a riff fest and if you enjoy metal there are great tunes on here
I was hyped for this after hearing how good Dystopia was, but this album wasn't as good imo. Maybe I need to listen to it more. but so far the title track of Dystopia is better than this entire album combined
@@crazeverseben7583I think it's better than dystopia TBH. I'd give it a solid 7.5/10 could even bump it up to a 8. In my top 5 Megadeth albums for sure tho
This album is incredible. The sick the dying and the dead, life in hell and dogs of chernobyl. This record and dystopia are their best since the system has failed.
@ghost mall you must be blind and deaf if you don’t think Megadeth planned and carried out the assassination of the Queen just so they could release an aptly titled album right afterwards
Anyone else feel like he’s way too harsh on metal compared to other genres? I would understand a 5 or a 6 but a 3? He’s given higher scores to much less listenable albums over and over.
@@GenXJay670 LOL I know. Like yeah some of the tracks aren't that good and some of the lyrics are a bit stupid, but I mean it's also got some pretty good songs on it.
I agree that Megadeth has had a rocky couple of decades, although I loved Dystopia when it came out and still like it just fine now, but I have to disagree here, Anthony. This is the first Megadeth album in a long time that has both great riffs and production and total consistency and cohesion. I was fully expecting to be completely nonplussed about this outing, particularly as Dave is really winding me up these days, but I was taken aback on first listen and only appreciate it more with increased familiarity. The lyrics are a bit throwaway and misguided and it's not pushing any boundaries, but musically I cannot fault this album and to me it stands as their best effort since Cryptic Writings.
Loved the record, gets better with every listen. this is Dave getting back to what he does best... catchy as fuck hooks. brilliant guitar playing on the LP as well. As a diehard fan in my teens, who was disappointed with the last 3 albums (although I like Dystopia, I didnt love it), this was the Megadeth ive hoping for since Endgame.
What’s weird is that Fantano praised it in The review almost as much as he hated on it lmao. I saw his reaction to nightstalkers on his stream and he called mustaine problematic before he started the song so I figured this record wouldn’t get a fair shot
@@jaketaz2848 endgame and system has failed are probably my favs since RIP, cryptic was good though too, I like his poppy melodic hooks mixed with thrash ( system... was a good mix)
Right?? The way he was talking made it sound like a light to decent six at worst. The rating took me by such surprise. He praised more tracks then he disparaged, and even on the tracks he disparaged he admitted that the riffs were still good and the solo work was “insane”
If this album had come out in 1990 it would be viewed a one of their classics. In 2022 things are viewed differently. It's a quality Megadeth release though and certainly one of their best since those heady days.
That is the strangest thing i have ever heard.....crypitic was solid, even risk is better than this....13 kills this, United Abomination walks all over it.....lets not even mention the system has failed...... Endgame....
I’ve never been a big megadeth fan. But boy, in the day today I’ve listened to the album start to finish 3 times today, it’s quickly shot up to one of my favourite albums of all time
@@Dulwf46788 helluva lot better than dystopia and super collider, it’s no Rust In Peace but it’s solid, definitely their best album since The System has Failed
Never a 'big fan' of theirs.. but still being born in 1980 there were many REALLY COOL ASPECTS of explicitly the metal scene, that allowed for the rise of grunge later - such as metal magazines - and aside from the glam and chauvinistic crap and excess of a large part of popular metal, there were some REALLY COOL PEOPLE who just did and said really cool things. Like Dave & Megadeth. Oddly though metal they never 'crossed anybody's lines' like culturally, even though Dave takes a good bite. And that's nice. Megadeth is the kind of culture that always went good with Tony Hawk and skateboarding and even early video gaming - and that's cool, real cool. They deserve their 'metal crown' as far as I'm concerned.
This album has a very dry sense of humor at parts, and I wouldn’t take it too seriously. I would describe it as darkly humorous as opposed to nihilistic.
Mission to Mars was a pseudo sequel to Countdown to Extinction. There's a tribute to it in the beginning and it's about wanting to leave a dead Earth. Although, I know that the overall tone doesn't carry that across.
There's no doubt Dave had too much Call of Duty time when writing this album. But I do think that the last two albums (especially Dystopia) were a hell of a bounce back. It's nice to hear that Megadeth can still have great albums after I've almost given up on them.
I’m a huge Megadeth fan and I wasn’t shit hot on this album at all. Ripping music for the most part but pretty awful lyrics all around that really killed the record for me.
Damn listening to melon talk about the album I was sure he was gonna give it atleast a 5 but a 3?? That was harsh, personally its like a 6 for me, pretty solid one from Megadeth but nothing too amazing
Lol not at all, not sure what you heard. It has more of Peace Sells (we’ll be back - good mourning) and stuff on countdown like killing time. Some heavy shit that wasn’t previously done until dystopia came out like life in hell and nightstalkers. Plus people criticize Dave for not making RIP 2.0 and if he does (which he didn’t ) he also gets criticized
This album is 4.5 out of 5 stars. It's a solid album. One of the best to be made in recent memory. If you enjoyed Dystopia I think you will love this album. It's an album that grows on you over time. The title track kinda lingers and piddles around until it finally kicks into the picking part. Eventually, it kicks into high gear. It borrows a lot of the same energy and songwriting from the album 13. It's fun. Life in Hell tares the rug off the floor! High energy solid Megadeth. No complaints here. Night Stalkers, I grow to love over time. The only con to it is I'm not too into the lyrics which seem to be about military equipment. Making a song about that is kinda eh. But despite that, still a great song. Dogs of Chornobyl has an interesting into. I feel like Kiko must have written it. A little different from the type of riffs that Dave writes in terms of key and song structure. The lyrics are top-notch. Good song. Sacrifice is a good song. Junkie has song cool stuff going on in it riff-wise, but it's hard to get into a song called Junkie lol! But for some reason, the lyrics are stuck in my head. Psychopathy is EPIC. Sounds like something from 90's Megadeth, like from the album CTE. Killing Time is another solid song. Good Stuff. Solider On. EH. The lyrics are solid, but the main riff sounds like a recycled riff from TSHF. So I don't like it when bands recycle iconic riffs. Otherwise, I would like Solider On better. Celebutante is FANTASTIC! Sounds like something that could of been on Metallica's Kill Em All. Fun song. Mission to Mars, I LOVE THIS SONG! I repeat it often. It's classic tongue-in-cheek Megadeth that has punk vibes to it with metal undertones. Its a song that pokes fun but has a message too. I've not heard that from MEGADETH in a long time. In the last several albums, they have become more cerebral and less fun. Mission to Mars is a welcome return to form. We'll be Back is GREAT! Awesome way to end the album, leaving you wanting more! The only other thing I'd like to mention is the solos. There is some good stuff on here. But, overall, compared to Megadeth's past albums, not as memorable solo-wise. Anyway, I highly recommend this album if you are a Megadeth fan. If you are not a Megadeth fan, you'd probably give it 3 stars like mister Needledrop lol. If you're sensitive to anything pro-military, you probably won't like this record either. But kinda silly to disregard great tunes based on that alone. There you have it. There is my review.
I grew up obsessed with Megadeth and still listen to them today. This album just doesn't do it at all for me. I'll give it another listen but I'm also leaning closer to a 4 or 5 for my personal rating. It's just a hash under mid tier for me
I disagree. I thought the album was mostly alright I think the best since Endgame. Psychopathy is clearly going for a The System Has Failed tone. And while fun, Mission to Mars is a sequel to Countdown to Extinction. There's a tribute to it in the beginning. It's about leaving a dead Earth. Mission To Mars was one of my favorite songs on the album but it could have been a much more thematic in tone companion piece to Countdown to Extinction.
The System has Failed still my fave. Disliked by a portion of fans but to me was peak Dave. Silly but self aware, acid but emotional and goddamn Colaiuta fucking ruled! After that album couldn't enjoy much else from Megadeth.
Yeah system has failed was so good, I think it is like Megadeth's black album. Fast, thrashy but also catchy and accessible. One of their best in my opinion.
Megadeth hasn’t put out anything good in decades now. I think the constant line up changes have a lot to do with that. Especially the departure of Marty Friedman.
I’m a huge Megadeth fan and I’d give it a 3/10. Ripping music for most of the songs but the lyrics are incredibly bad on almost every song except a couple. I’m glad people are loving it but I just don’t get it.
I wasn't really expecting this album to be that great. The last 3 albums were a disappointment to me. Instead I was very blown away by this album, 12/10!!
I like "Soldier on" and "We'll be back" a lot, a couple of the other songs are pretty alright too. Overall kinda what you expect. Nothing too exciting or new, but I'm sure fans will be happy.
Same. First single was a great comeback track. Everything else though did nothing for me. Not awful, but not particularly exciting either. Aggressively meh.
As a Megadeth fan, i’ve gotten used to being disappointed by a new release. And with David Ellefson no longer in the band, and Mustaine’s behaviour becoming full on MAGA bullshit (including cancelling David which like. is the hight of fundamentalist hypocrisy), i’m rapidly losing reasons to care.
Dave doesn't make sense to me. He's fostered one of the best thrash bands in history, which has roots in punk, but then he'll turn around and claim he's a born again Christian and disagrees with the gay "lifestyle". Sang for decades about the dangerous byproducts of feeding a military industrial complex, but then never seems to stop singing about badass military themes. And finally, has a successful band in which he's reached the pinnacle of music with, and still whines about not being in Metallica, even though it was clear he and James never would've made it out of the 90s if he remained in the band, them both having been addicts. I'm glad he still makes music, but what a mystery that dude is.
I'm not a 100% fan of Megadeth but i listen Youthanasia- (My favourite), Countdown to Extinction, debut album and Dystopia. And the new album it's a total banger, i mean you end headbanging every song, the mix is smooth. It was a great year for Heavy Metal personally 💀
It's strange because I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I still enjoy the album quite a lot. It's got some glaring flaws and it's by no means one of the better megadeth albums, but to me, it still stands on its own as a solid collection of quite well written songs.
I didn't find it that bad, I actually liked it, It's not better than its predecessor but it's pretty close I'd say idk. This album passed me some of the vibes from "so far... so good... so what" album. Some of the riffs are cool to play on the guitar and they for sure added cool ideas in a couple songs there. I may be rating this with biased thoughts but I'd rate it a 6,5-7/10, average deth quality, maybe I change my opinions in the future.
@@DashieNegan41 right. Well, at least he states "y'all know this is just my opinion?" With every review. Therefore, he's saying he'll respect our opinion even if we gave this album a 10. A lot of people and critics won't say that a lot.
totally agree the last 3 albums were very eh. this album feels very roots megadeth to me. overall disagree personally loving it and kiko is such a talented guitarist. riffs and solos are crazy.
As a long time Megadeth fan, I disagree with most of his points and comparisons. But at the end of the day he's entitled to his opinion and I respect that.
3 is bullshit he's super mad because it dared to give some decent treatment to war and veterans. So many songs here objectively bang huge and are great additions to their discography.
I was critical of a lot of parts .but reducing it to the elements of metal ,it works .it's catchy where it needs to be,gives flashback tones to old songs . writing ain't all that but it ain't totally terrible, I definitely find it fun to play along to .
Lol hard disagree! This album is definitely one of their best in a long time. I think Fantano naturally just doesn't like Megadeth all that much. Especially mostly Dave's voice.
I loved this album. The song the I skip is “Junkie”. As a recovering addict 21 years clean I think Dave (also with a history of addiction) comes across as out of touch and ignorant. The lyrics in this album are not as awesome as Rust I Peace, or Peace Sells, but the music is the best Megadeth in over 15 years. I’ve been listening to Megadeth since 1989 and I am so grateful that they (Dave really) put out such a great thrash album in freaking 2022.
Lumping Dystopia in with the other 2 albums...hm, I have to disagree with you there. Dystopia is way better. Back in the day Megadeth made some of the best speed/thrash metal and it even had intelligent lyrics (at least sometimes) and I think that has left me expecting way too much. I like moments on this record, but the retread music and campy vocals outweigh those moments.
Melon's so influential now that after he said "Bring out your dead" Liz Truss assassinated the Queen just so she could comply with Antony's command..... (allegedly)
