This is supposed to be the canon setting, this is what makes sense to interconnect the story with MMX6 intro stage. Most of Eurasia Colony being destroyed but some debris still managing to hit Earth... Zero not getting infected by the virus, joining with X for the final showdown with Sigma... Then the Maverick Hunters preparing themselves for an operation to clean up the regions that were hit, and look for survivors.
@L4z1n3zz There's no official confirmation, but it's the theory that makes most sense. It explains the Zero Virus, it explains Wily's fate, it explains how he could talk in Zero's mind in X5, it explains the fight between Sigma and Zero and why Zero turned good and Sigma maverick. Indeed, the energy Wily found in MM8 is believed to be the very thing he powered Zero with - Which explains the maverick virus and the events of X5.
yeah the cannon/shuttle failing is pure random but just collect the items and don't waste time. At first, the shuttle failed but when I reset my game and did it again I succeeded.
@VoidedNote agreed. but i do belive wily has never heard of lights creation of X in fact light didn't even tell the original megaman about that. so Zero is X's Bass but more of a protoman in my book.
I've been through this ending before and I've kept zero along with X because X & zero they are maverick hunters against sigma too bad Dr Wily and Dr Light were enemies in the 20XX and since they both died before their creations can work together in the future
@VoidedNote I don't think "reploid" have much to do with X, sure, Cain built them based on X's design, but if Zero is not a reploid, neither is X. I read somewhere where "reploid" originates from but forgot by now...
@ClericLordLeo No. Robot Master is the name for the Robots Wily created and put in charge of this robot army to fight Megaman and take over the world. Zero was built after his last defeat and then killed Wily.
@JCAznDude Lol. Actually it's supposed to be random-ish, but one thing I'm sure is that the Enigma always has a wayyyy lower chance of success in comparison to the Shuttle. Then again, If you check the story, the fact that the Shuttle is used is canon, while the Laser succeeding in destroying the Eurasia Colony isn't. I do recall getting the laser to succeed...once or twice on the many times I've played X5 xD

Ok, can someone tell me how you get the different outcomes? I've been playing this game since i was a kid, and I thought I had it figured out, but I guess not. I thought it was play at least 4 missions as Zero to make the shuttle launch a success (because that used to work), but in my most recent playthrough, it didn't. Zero went Maverick. So, anyone wanna enlighten me?
Collecting all shuttle parts (with any character) grants you the best chance of saving zero, however it is still not 100% (near 100% on normal though), meaning that there's no guaranteed method of keep zero. Also when playing on higher difficulties, the successful rate of destroying the colony could be less than 50% even if you collect all the parts, so it is best advised to save the game before the shuttle is launched.
It's random. You can still manage to collect all the parts and you'll fail. Vice versa, you can still shoot the colony right away in the beginning and you'll manage. In PS2 and Legacy Collection, the possibility to destroy the Colony somehow is REDUCED that you'll think you will always fail.
@@foxshoot3138 X and Zero are original projects, not reploids. X was created by Dr. Light, and Zero was created by Dr. Wily. The reploids were created by Dr. Cain when he adopted and studied X.
if your brothers in arms die that leaves less of a buffer of safety between you and your own death at the hands of the enemy. therefore take as many of those bastards as you can down with you if you must die. vehicles on the other hand are very disposable.
Truth is, he isnt, you are confusing reploid with "robot with free will". Reploids is just the general term to all robots because they were based of the original design of X, but Zero was an original creation of Dr. Wily, so technicaly he isnt a "reploid". After all reploid comes from "replic"

Zero is based off X's design, BUT Zero hasn't COMPLETE free will. He has the same mind of a Robot Master. That maybe explains why Zero doesn't hestitates.
@Luxai Hm, wait. Did Zero kill Wily? :o As far as i knew the fate of both Dr. Light and Dr. Wily remained a mistery after the Classic Megaman and pretty much during the whole X series (I'm not counting the Zero series because they don't even get a mention there, lol). Could someone confirm this? :o
No one knows what exactly happened after Dr. Wily had created Zero. We only know that he at some point ordered Zero to go after Rock and defeat him... But we don't know if Zero managed to defeat Rock or not.
I hate this game. I collected all the fucking parts and still FAILED???????? But then someone else fires or lauches that shit without ANY parts and is SUCCESSFUL???????? ARE YOU HIGH CAPCOM???? WHAT TYPE OF GAMEPLAY BULLSHIT IS THAT???!!!!!!
