The cops have NO idea how to deal with Megamind, because they were never the ones who handled him.

The thing about this movie is megamind wasn't a bad guy, he was just pushed into the badguy lifestyle. Metroman and megamind had an unwritten rule that they needed each other so neither one killed the other. With the other guy that rule didn't apply so there was real stakes meaning he had to become a real hero.

You're right, on the surface level Despicable Me and Megamind have similar plots, they also came out fairly close together, and Despicable Me came out first, which is a big part of the reason this movie didn't get the recognition it deserves, it's such a good movie but wasn't that successful because of that.

"He didn't do anything he just fell in there!" technically he attempted a jail break as a baby Anyways Megamind is a masterpiece and I feel the sole reason we have yet to get a sequel is because of when this movie released: Around the same time as Despicable Me. And if evidenced by the multiple sequels of Despicable Me, clearly that one overshadowed Megamind for a long time. It's only been recently that I've seen a surge of love for Megamind, actually... I liked Despicable Me but Megamind is just better imo.

I love the detail that we never learn Megamind's and Metroman's actual names, merely their hero/villain names Since this film focuses on the roles the two of them felt forced upon, and the choices they make to truly be happy

When titan says that there is no easter bunny, tooth fairy and queen of England, she is just included so that they don´t break the illusion for kids.

There’s a great little detail in this movie concerning Roxanne’s clothes. At the start she mainly wears red (opposing blue obviously). Then as she gets to know Bernard/Megamind and starts falling for him she switches to purple during the midway point. And at the very end she’s wearing a blue dress, matching Megamind’s colors.

The "Space Dad" look and sound was a double Marlon Brando reference to his part as the Godfather (as you correctly guessed by the voice) and also his role as Jorel (Superman's father) in the 70s Superman movie.😁

Okay, here's something I know you probably missed in the movie, but otherwise shows some incredible attention to detail: At the time that Metro-Man said he used his super speed to contemplate retiring was when the "sun was warming up" and both Metro-man and Mega-Mind were projected side by side on the museum's two buildings with Metro-Man scowling in disappointment and impatience. If you replay that scene frame by frame, in one frame Metro-Man's image will disappear from inside the abandoned observatory and an itsy-bitsy Mega-Man will appear on the bridge around the statue. Oh, and spot on Will Ferrell impersonation by the way.

The more I watch it, the more I'm starting to think Megamind is lowkey a commentary on how people raised in certain circumstances end up going down certain paths in life. He was literally raised in prison and taught bad was good.

Magamind was playing like Marlon Brando from Superman (1978) which played Jor-El superman's Kyrptonian father. You should watch it and Superman II don't bother with the others. It is pretty cool, a bit campy, a nice amount of humor and romance.

You know, I think the reason Megamind was raised in prison instead of being given to an orphanage or something, is because number one, who would adopt a blue baby with a brain six times the size of a human's, and number two, if anyone saw a blue baby, they'd tell others about it, and eventually someone from the government would be knocking on their door and then Megamind and Minion would be under the dissection knife. They'd cut him open just to see how his anatomy worked. The Warden wasn't going to risk that. So, even though he doesn't look like it, he's the best dad Megamind could have ever gotten on Earth.

Well, about that "multiply it by six". It's so oddly specific because it's a hidden joke on a unit prefix in metric system - mega- which is 10^(6). Edit: also I noticed noone mentions the short sequel-ish part called Megamind: The Button of Doom. It's just around 15-16 mins long, but it's quite nice (and really, the only sequel we have for now).

Tiny detail that I love, when Megamind has Metroman captured at the start of the movie, you can see him fade out for a moment at the point he went soul searching.

This movie never fails to make me smile.

Did you notice the change of the color of Roxanne's clothes? At first, when she's against Megamind, her clothes are red. Later when she's confused it's purple ... and in the end, when she's on Megamind's side, she wears blue. ^^

If you look at a certain point in megaminds speech you see metroman appear for a split second.

Highly recommend another DreamWorks classic from 2002, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Its a 2D stylized 3D animation film if that makes sense lol. Its one of the earlier forms of digital/3D animation but they stuck to the classic 2D hand drawn look for the story. Its very powerful and be prepared to have tissues on standby!

I suggest Over The Hedge, Iron Giant & for Halloween make sure you watch our family's favorite, Wallace and Gromit Curse of the Wererabbit.

This is actually a really good movie, just often overshadowed by Despicable Me since it was release the same year, with same concept of a Bad Person turning Good, the only advantage of Despicable Me is that it has some cute mascots.. other than that, they are both great movies..

Megamind will never be boring no matter the amounts of re-watch. Also, totally recommend a video from Cinema Therapy about Megamind, the topic of "Nice Guys". The in-depth analysis it did comparing Megamind and Hal is really informative and their reactions to movies is really genuine and cool :)

Yes, he was doing a Marlon Brando impersonation. Brando was Superman's father Jor-El in the Christopher Reeve movies, but the impression he did was more like Brando in The Godfather.

Little detail you might have missed: when Metroman was in charge being the good guy, Roxane were red. When she and Megamind hooked up, her dress is blue. That's cute.

This movie just reminds me of Michael Jacksons life a lot.. Like that theory that Michael faked his own death.. Then that part when Roxen said that they dont know what they had until they lose it, and that they maybe didnt appriciate him enough when he was alive..

How did he put it? "Either a new hero will rise up, or a villain." Little did he know (spoilers) that the answer was, yes.

This movie was hilarious. The music was awesome and when you go into the depth of the movie it gets even better. Like Roxanne’s dress colors. CinematicTherapy did a great analysis on how Megamind is a good guy but Hal is the nice guy.

I love this movie so, so much. I can quote most of it and I absolutely love the soundtrack. I thoroughly enjoyed the easter eggs and consistency with the story. Amazing movie.

A common-sense message for Hal/Titan: Saving the girl doesn't count for squat if you're the one who endangered her life in the first place! Furthermore, you are way too clingy in your interactions with Roxanne as "Hal." It comes off as stalker-y and gross. The implication is that you are crazy, super-creepy, and a wierdo! Give her some space (and that DOES NOT MEAN throw her into the stratosphere!), and accept that she lets her yes mean yes, and her no mean no! REMEMBER THAT PART. NO MEANS NO!

Another under appreciated masterpiece is the Raymond Briggs animated film “When the Wind Blows”… If you got the “feels” from The Iron Giant, Pixar’s Coco/Up/Inside Out type movies, well… …no, I don’t want to spoil it, but have a couple boxes of Kleenex on hand…

Oh also adding! This movie's a really good dive into the concept of social obligation vs personal desires. Schaffrillas Productions did a great video on Megamind that kinda talked about this idea, like, how much does a super-powered person owe to their city? Do they have more obligation than a firefighter or a cop, just because of their powers? Plus the fact that Metroman was always sort of lifted into this role by his peers, even as children he was always responsible for correcting Megamind's mistakes. He grew up surrounded by that expectation and as most gifted kids will know, you're too young at that age to actually know what you want, so you just kinda go along with what everyone says you should be, which usually revolves around what makes you "special" or "better" than others, even if it's not what makes you happy. And then it's not until you're older that you realize oh shit, I have the freedom to break away from this now. Metroman wasn't necessarily happy with his role, I wonder if he's ever really been happy with it. At the beginning of the movie he says "At the end of every day I often ask myself, who would I be without you?" I don't think this is him being a humble civil servant of Metro City's people, but him subtly admitting that he often wonders what his life would've been like if he hadn't been nailed with this social obligation. He ends his days wondering what he would do if he didn't have to save the city, didn't have to play the role of a famous public figure, didn't have to effectively babysit Megamind (who he clearly doesn't have any hard feelings against). This is already our first inkling into the twist that he didn't actually die, but just got tired of the hero gig. Megamind is the same thing but on the other end of the spectrum. Everyone treats him not just different, but as if he's a problem. He tries to fit in but the only "accepted" role he can get is to be the bad guy, and in his desperation for acceptance, he takes that role. It's not really what he wants, it doesn't make him happy to have everyone hate him, but it's at least A role in society. Otherwise, he'd have no place at all.

I absolutely love this movie and it is completely underrated. I know it was competing against Despicable Me and DM won but I like Megamind so much more. The villain in Megamind feels real, not like a cartoon, he feels threatening.

Have you ever watched Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, JV? The whole making of Titan reminds me of what Lex Luthor does when creating Nuclear Man, but there's a few differences. I mean, yes, he turns against Lex, but only for a second; And he does go against Superman, but throughout the movie. The differences are: Titan was created with DNA and then shoved into a human, not created from scratch, and his creator has to take him out, not the normal hero, and the normal hero is retired.

I never thought about it before but Hal with probably just a fragment of Metro Man’s power really could’ve killed Mega Mind just like that. So if Metro Man ever really wanted to, he could’ve actually taken him out, he just isn’t a murderer.
