I remember in 2018 when I've returned to Yu-Gi-Oh! after I've stopped playing it for 11 years, I was like "Stop with this ridiculous crap, why should I play Synchros, XYZ, Pendulums or Links, just give me my Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes and Exodia and Chaos Emperor Dragon fuck what has Yu-Gi-Oh! became they have ruined it wait there is a Bird with 3.500 ATK that is unaffected by any card effect OMG this shit if fucking great I love new Yu-Gi-Oh! I'll get myself YGOPro and try out all cards in existence!"

@@Redwolver111 Bread is the Tuner because it's just one ingredient, but you can use any number of ingredients inbetween the slices of bread, like grilled cheese (1 non-Tuner), or pb&j (2 non-Tuners).

"how many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?" I mean I'll be real with you, I quit YuGiOh when Pendulums came out. And I didn't come back to it till pretty recently, thankfully skipping that whole "you can only fusion/synchro/xyz to extra monster zones" phase. So now that Pendulums are reeled in and Links aren't so mandatory and I can basically play old decks again I'm on board. Getting used to 5 cards in the hand and not being able to easily destroy opponent's field with your own took a little getting used to but I'm taking it in stride in the end.

i was pretty much in the same boat. i heard about master rule 4 and HARD noped out. because as someone who mostly played elemental heroes and Cyber dragons in the high school lunch room, that was crushing. pendulums were brutal too. i was the only one in the card club who didn't pick up the structure deck. coincidentally, i went from being the player to beat in our group (i only really dropped games if i drew a particularly bad starting hand) to getting curb stomped by people throwing their whole hand of level 6-8 odd-eyes down at once. i have since picked it back up to some degree, with the game on the switch, but the competitive decks are so strangulating, its hard to really want to sink time into pvp to deal with the same 3 decks constantly

@@Fallen-Saint im not sure if the type i ran were any good. i ran several of the ones that require specific names (mostly flame wingman and shining flare wingman), a couple of the attribute fusions, and some masked. i have been to exactly one tournament, and i got stomped (i think i was 1-3, and the one was against the one guy i knew from high school)

As a Synchro player back when I was a kid, I remember feeling like the fish in the last meme. I mean, I felt cheated every time my friends summoned xyz monsters that I couldn't handle because I needed to go into synchro, whic was sooo much complicated than special summoning a generic second monster of equal level, and may I remind you that many cards that came out with the first wave of xyz support specified that they couldn't go into synchro summom. I stopped playing once Pendulum came out, because the pendulum summon was so bs that I kept losing my games turn 2.

The grilled cheese would be a special summon. When chef Elemental HERO Neos summons bread and cheese and brings them together it's a contact fusion - so technically special summon... Or would you consider the hot pan to be the Polymerization card of the lunchtime archetype.

4:45 *Puts on glasses* In an era where links weren't even a thing yet, Accesscode Talker would for the most part be a 2300 atk beatstick that has a slightly better Exiled Force effect that can target backrow instead. The only way you could gain his atk boosting effect would be to link into another Accesscode using the one you brought, but that would be real clunky, and frankly not worth it (that would be having to invest 3 other monsters alongside that Accesscode, which already took 4 monsters to make). There weren't a lot of ways to cheese Extra Deck monsters into the grave either during the release of Dark Magician, so it would be very annoying to dump a second one in there just to pop one card with the effect of your Accesscode on the field. Given the above, I think I'd rather play the Dark Magician deck given that time period and it's serious lack of links. XD

I just built a tournament legal deck for the current banlist (February 13, 2023) using exclusively cards from the sets released before 2006. Punch in the face is very accurate when return to Yu-Gi-Oh! after Zexal and Xyz era and sort of speedrun trough ARC-V to understand what Pendulum Summonin is, only to get slapped by VRAINS and Link Monsters saying "yeah fuck you and your Chaos Dragon deck that you spent 10 years building", and I just stand there and turn around and going to find some other sites/groups who played with the old game rules and other people who also hated the fact that Link Monsters blocked your deck completely. Thank fuck they removed the rule at later date because I would have ended up selling my 10k worth of cards otherwise. Thankfully I didn't have to do that.

They do make legacy support, unfotunatly KONAMI is too stupid to realize there are other decks besides Yugi and Kaiba and ONLY focus on DM era cards that are a waste of space

9:10 I still don't think pendulum did anything like that. I mean you weren't forced to play them at basically anytime. So you still could use decks from before. It took like one whole year to get a really good pendulum deck. And they really just had one op deck, and that just for like 3 weeks until it got crushed by a banlist. Especially the first one is sooo god damn true for Link monsters, especially with masterule 4. You were forced to play them, it crushed many decks and so on. It was for a reason that they changed the extra deck handling with master rule 5 But I have to admit that it makes just sense to place those pendulum zones in the normal spell trap card zones. But not for it being to complicated or changing the layout. And Link did that too with their zones soo

4:06 I know this is strictly to match the meme, but especially for returning players: if a card is revealed and added to your opponent's hand and you Mind Crush them, they are forced to discard it because it's public knowledge. That's literally how the card is intended to work. Cimo knows it's correct, but I don't want returning players to think that Mind Crush doesn't work in that scenario. Else you can call a judge if they mysteriously still have a copy that turn and you have evidence to prove that it's suspicious.

7:16 - If you're a hunter who killed an animal to eat it, that's a tribute summon. If you're making something like a smoothie, pastry, soup, etc. where ingredients straight-up blend to an even consistency and flavor, then you're Fusion Summoning. If you're negotiating to trade a certain food item(s) for one thing your friend has then you're Ritual Summoning. The negotiation is the ritual spell card. If you put bread and cheese together to make a grilled cheese then you're Synchro Summoning, because the heat is just used as a way to bring the materials to the desired state, like harmonizing with an existing frequency. If you're stacking ingredients like ham, cheese, and bread together it's an XYZ summon because you're overlaying things without actually cooking them. The sandwich it becomes is the XYZ monster on top. If you're getting multiple pieces of food at once from a buffet and filling up your -Monster Zone- plate completely often, then you're Pendulum Summoning. If you're ordering from a flexible menu that lets you swap out food items for different ones without having to pay extra for a given meal, then you're Link Summoning. To be fair, Duelist Kingdom rules WERE the rules... the rules just changed... even in the show, the rules of the game was evolving. That is an important point to note... the rules literally evolve. So holding Yugi (who was in the past) to the same standard as us when the rules were different back then is just unfair. You act like the anime was created for the card game... but it's the other way around. Anime/Manga came 1st.

Grilled cheese is a fusion cause you need one more thing to complete it: some form of heat. If heat is polymerization, then naturally you'll have many varieties, including microwave grilled cheese

I can confirm the disillusioned part. Wanted to try it again so I did. First person I played basically instantly played a card that made it impossible to do anything, said that my card didn't do what it said, and they were the judge so I just left.

I think when serious players complain about a business trying to sell a product to a casual market, it's kinda dumb. I don't think Konami actually expects anyone who buys those cards to rejoin the meta.... they are just trying to get money from casuals wishing for nostalgia. And hey, it might possibly give them new players interested in the games again.

Technically, the grilled cheese is a fusion summon as you need 2 specific materials (bread and cheese) and a fusion spell (a toaster or a pan). A salad would be akin to a synchro, as you can use any sort of leafy greens as a tuner and anything else like tomatoes or croutons are your non tuner materials
