Mercedes-Benz EQS one pedal driving

EQS Owner: Honest Opinions and Helpful Tips

Mercedes-Benz EQS uses four recuperation levels to adjust your driving speed. Strong recuperation slows the car down like you were applying the brakes; Normal recuperation gradually slows the car; No recuperation puts the car into coasting mode when not applying the accelerator; and Intelligent recuperation adjusts the car's speed based on terrain and road conditions. In this video I show how the four settings are displayed on the dashboard and give a demonstration on how I use recuperation to drive the car with just the accelerator.

I found that intelligent recuperation is the best for me. It's pretty much one pedal driving as long as there's a car in front of you. It will stop just behind great stop and go traffic that in conjunction with the cruise control you don't have to touch either paddle.

Thank you for the time to create this important video. One of the best things about driving a Tesla for 6 years was the one-pedal-driving. I love it. Once I bought my EQS SUV, I was disappointed at first, but then I learned how to use it effectively. Now, I very seldom use the brake pedal during in-town driving. Therefore, I use Comfort Mode and D- around town and Eco Mode with Dauto on the highway. I have been very impressed with the way Mercedes Benz handles the battery management on my road trips with Dauto and Eco mode.

I’ve had tesla ‘regen braking’ for 9 years so very used to my merc ‘strong recuperation’. As tesla’s are quite basic and dont give options, my driving style adapted to single foot so that you modulate the foot for the amount of recuperation, so I leave my merc in strong and drive to the stop by slowly lifting or applying the accelerator rather than a sudden jerky release. Its amazing once perfected, but takes a bit of time to really understand the car. It essentially means your car does exactly what your foot is asking of it, making you at one with it. Strong recuperation down a big hill also creates significant energy into the battery. Merc need to add the regen level to the user profile, or leave it in the last setting.

You don’t mention the benefit of adding energy to the battery when using strong recuperation. Also, recuperation is best used in city driving vs highway driving.

I like intelligent recoup.

I thought I would use it all the time when I got the car, but I use the cruise control so much, I don't find it fits in with my driving style.

What does auto recoup do? I use strong recoup to recharge the battery and never touch the brake pedal, except for emergency. But, you must learn how to modulate the accelerator smoothly to avoid a jerky ride. I want recoup set in my profile so it doesn’t require a reset it every time entering vehicle. Walk-away door locking is another profile setting desired.

Auto recuperation slows you down to keep your distance in traffic and such, but I use cruise control so much, I don't find it fits my driving style. I've seen your sentiment shared by many others. I prefer the smoother speed reduction Normal provides and have become so accustomed to using the paddles, it's like second nature now.

Is there any net benefit between recuperation modes or is it “swings and roundabouts”?
@EQS-Owner
@EQS-Owner Месяц назад
There is a bit of a difference. The stronger the recuperation is set: 1) the faster you slow down; and 2) the more energy you put back into the batteries. From my experience, the differences in how fast it slows the car is dramatically different. However, I have not noticed any extended range from using the recuperation. Based on how recuperation is designed, I am sure there is some benefit for the range, I just have not noticed any changes.

It doesn’t matter what mode you are using recuperation in, even if you’re driving in normal, the moment you hit the brakes, it uses recuperation to slow you down, the car chooses when to actually apply the brakes in normal mode.

Intelligent recuperation is the way to drive. The car will automatically slow down and come to a stop if there is a car stopped in front of you otherwise it will keep moving with traffic and keep you at a safe distance.

This is a good option, just not my preference. I prefer a more gradual slowdown and reach a number of stops without a car in front of me to help with slowing.

Hi, is it possibel to heat the steering wheel without activating the seatheating also?Thanks.

As far as I know, the steering wheel only beats when the seats heat. I guess the engineers figured nobody would need to heat only the steering wheel

Is there any truth to the rumor that Intelligent Recuperation uses radar to see the car in front of you and apply needed recuperation? Also, I heard it applies more recuperation when turn signal is on anticipating slow down for turn. For me, it seems too weak. I would like a soft touch of brake to engage strong recuperation before friction brake engages. But, I don’t know any EV that offers it.

Some people love the intelligent recuperation because it adjusts the car's speed as you noted. I use cruise control often enough that I generally do not prefer the intelligent recuperation

You have left out one important factor ,, yes I know im a pain but,, it very much depends on your soc ,, if you have a high soc ,, then you hurt your range if you are doing hwy. driving as you can’t recoup with high state ,, where as intelligent with take advantage of coasting hence giving a better efficiency
