Very informative instructions. I did this job recently based on the video. Found it's not completely necessary to disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignitions coils, and remove the spark plugs. The spark plug wire/coil assembly can be disconnected from the spark plugs without disconnecting the spark plug wires from the coils, and the assembly flipped 180 out of the way to rest on top of the wiring harness. Using paper towels, any oil in the spark plug holes can be absorbed by using a screwdriver to push the towel to the base of the hole.
I just bought a 1995 c280 and thanks to you I'm eager to start working on it. For some reason once you took off the covers I thought wouldn't it be nice to paint those two different colors? And voila great job brother you got a sub
Great video- I’m following this for my 1993 300E and it’s working out great! My favorite part of your video was at 23:40 because you went to the DANGER ZONE (Kenny Loggins on radio lol)
Do your research, need to prepare the cover really good, and find what paint to use on magnesium covers, my paint came off after 5 years. I'll have to redo mine.
Jaren Jacobs Thanks. One little tip, make sure you don't pinch the injector wires when placing the valve cover, double check before tighteing all bolts. Good luck. By the way, I haven't used any RTV.
Здравствуйте,поменял охл.жидкость,промыли,старая жидкость была грязная и на крышке то ли пена,то ли масло. Залили чистый антифриз проехал чуть смотрю она опять грязная из за чего это, С280,м104,1995 год???
Thank you for sharing. Just one question-would you please explain how did you install the half moon seals in the back? I couldn't see how. If you have a picture, that would be great. Nice job.
Hello Andy Just completed watching your video on the valve cover make over. Absolute beautiful job with that project!! At some point I am looking to do the same thing for my C280 as the paint is coming off the the cover in blotches, looks like hell. Some good pointers given out and I wish I had watched the video sooner and found out about the grommets. I need to order them... I do have one question.. Do you have a part number associated with that, I think you called it the engine tray cover, it looks like it is the cover over the fuel rail? I dont have one on my engine, and want one but cannot find anything on line for it. Anyway just love watching your videos, keep em coming will keep watching...Thanks so much for all your efforts! Lawrence
There are 2 types of spark plug covers, newer engines have a longer cover, which one do u need? Best place probably is the auto wrecker to find it The one on my engine is 104 150 06 75
Thank you the people who makes this videos. How did u know the valve cover gasket must be replaced? The engine has idle problems? It drowns and it accelerates and I suspect has ignition coil problem. Maybe can be oil in the ignition coil. I suspect also of dirt on the throttle body and the idle regulator. Thanks for reading :D
it either leaks oil on the outside , or if you pull the spark plug and it's covered in oil , or before pulling the spark plug take a light and look in the spark plug well.
Spark plugs were a bit covered in oil, I cleaned it and the engine idle improved, but it is difficoult to start and when u accelerate does not do the vacuum well, it seems to have some leak. I think the problem is caused by the same thing. Today the car was jerking even in highway driving, maybe is the flowmeter. Well, thank you for the attention and excuse my english :D I'll still investigating
AndyP Mercedes-Benz Channel I cleaned the ignition coil conections and I chek the resistance and It was within the values. This not means ignition coils are well but, later Im gonna change it for a new ignition coils. I repeat thanks for your work and attention, I will still giving u likes on C280 videos :D
Great video Andy. I had reviewed this a couple of years ago when I performed this job, but now have an oil leak of which I'm told it's the upper timing cover by a mechanic. Is that something different than valve cover or just a different term? I don't see a leak from replaced valve cover gasket so I assume it's a different cover/gasket he's talking about? Any advice? Thanks
It's different, It seems to be a common thing on M104 engine. Look thru my videos, I think i have a separate video on this, also it's a part of the head gasket replacement videos.
Amazing detailed video Mr Andy,Thank you. My engine is M111,very similar to yours, but only 4 cylinders. I removed the spark plugs cover,I found one plug surrounded by oil,so I have to replace the spark plug seals with new ones. My question is.does this oil surrounding the plug cause smoke out of the tail pipe? as I'm suffering blue smoke coming out of the tail pipe? Thanks again
+Mohamed Amer It's not likely that oil surrounding the plug will cause smoke out of the tail pipe, only if your spark plug is loose. But then your engine will run bad. The question is when do you see the blue smoke?
+MrAndyP1100 when revving, especially at high revs (>=3500 rpm). Sometimes when idling for few minutes then rev again, causes blue smoke. The oily plugs I saw in your video let me believed that oil is reaching the burning chamber and being burnt.
+Mohamed Amer no that's not the case, the oil cant go thru the spark plug or around it if its torqued properly. the symptoms as you describe suggest worn valve seals.
+MrAndyP1100 It torques amazingly perfect...the oil pressure gauge (my car is W124,there is oil pressure gauge in the dashboard) shows oil pressure at its full (full=3bar). When idling at with hot engine ) the pressure is 2.5 bar, still perfect.Owners say even at 1 bar still normal engine (not worn) Sorry for my too many questions..DO I have to remove the engine head to replace the valve seals? Thanks
Hi, Andy. I m painting my valve cover and I have a question, do you have problems with the interior paint? This are magnesium valve cover, what happens if I leave with out paint? Thank you
Hey, do you know where I could find the skinny hose on the top of the egr? Or the exact name of it, so I could see if my local auto parts store carried it? Thanks in advance for any Help.
Hi, I noticed that you have painted the valve cover inside. Is there a problem if the paint fell off when the engine is hot and damage the engine? Thanks
Great video Mr Andy...those seals you cleaned and put back aroun 14:20 are a bit different looking than what I have on my 96 C36 valve cover and they are in bad shape so need to order new ones. Do you know exactly what those seals are called? I've done some googling with no luck.
try searching for pn A1040160980. or u can go to your local MB dealer and ask with your vin #. heres the photo of the part plentycar.ru/autopart/2646036
+MrAndyP1100 Ok have my parts, but I have to ask do I have to remove/replace the baffle plates? Are they at all related or responsible in part for oil in spark plugs?
+mpowers1978 I dont think so, u have a constant flow of oil for cam shafts, to keep oil from getting to spark plugs u need to replace 6 round seals around the spark plug openings.
Actually, MB procedure specifically indicates not to use any, it worked on this engine. On the S320 I do have a very light sipage at one of the half moons, so im gonna try some non hardening sealant.
Hi, Andy. I m painting my valve cover and I have a question, do you have problems with the interior paint? This are magnesium valve cover, what happens if I leave with out paint? Thank you
Don't paint the interior of the valve cover. There's just no reason to, and the risk is too great. You don't want paint flaking off into the oil, and the tolerances are so tight around the gasket seal the layer of paint could cause issues. Too much hassle for something nobody will ever see.
