A short video on the production of the Mercedes Benz W210 E-Class, from the first plan - to the end product. Also features the W202 C Class and W140 S Class.
I'm on my second w210. Aside from the rust I think theyr'e excellent cars. The Diesels have great engines, some of the most durable engines ever built. In the Uk these cars can be bought very cheaply now - and the diesels are pretty economical. My E300 diesel avantgarde has a bit of rust, i've just replaced one of the wings with a pattern part, but it's a lovely ride and I get great pleasure from driving it.
@bryanb16th I don't think an English version exists unfortunately. Would be great if someone could provide a translation and I could put subtitles up though.
We drive a very clean beautiful 2000 e320 wagon made in Stuttgart on this assembly line. 19 years old @ 205k miles still gets 25mpg & drives fantastic. Seats 7 & can tote lots of cargo & tow 4000# too. Plan to drive it forever...God willing. Tiny spot or two of rust we fixed proper, not a big deal. Also have a great w163 ML500, 2002. Got both barely over 100k miles for >$5000. Common repair parts are dirt cheap now ; these cars don't break they do wear out, but much slower than other makes. MB forever...
The W210 nearly brought Mercedes into big trouble with recycled metal and rust almost killed them,so i dont know how you wished they were still in production
They are still great fucking cars. Rust never "almost killed" them, are you stupid? They were the first car created and still make great cars. W210 are great cars. So shut your bullshit up hater.
Mine is a post facelift. minor surface rust that's barely visibly... Nothing like some peoples I've seen on older models with rust eating through the metal.
I've got an E280 Avangard completely modified by Carlson, from 1996, 300 BHP... E37 engine, what a car. It's a petty this video is not in English too. MB forever!!!
If they had spent as much money on the engineering of simple things like window regulators cheap part that breaks rear windows fall down, or pixels in the instrument cluster that lasted more than a few months,or a shifter module that by poor design gets ruined and you can't shift if a bit of coffee or soda gets dripped on the console, or spring perches that didn't rust and let the coil spring front suspension collapse, as they did on this commercial the car would have been nearly flawless.
I don’t speak German, but I assume they are speaking about how the new w210 represents a significant reduction in build quality and durability, due to cost cutting measures inherent of the dark Daimler-Chrysler period.
People talking about rust here.. Have You ever seen an american made car, make it thru winters in europe?? Or check them out on the east coast of US, RUSTY!! Dont let "unknowledge" do Your thinking, please..?
Ye they might be zinc dipped but this model was a disaster for rust and nearly brought the house down with Merc cost cutting,by stretching the metal that made it 90 thou for the w210 against 110 thou for the w124 thats why you see such beautiful w124 and examples and the w210 looks like swollen up coke can,
9:50 wahrscheinlich haben hier die Bakterien ihr Unwesen getrieben und dafür gesorgt, dass der Lack nicht richtig aufgetragen werden konnte und dann Rost entstand:/
And thats where it went wrong at the very start of the film where the machine picks up the sheet of metal the gauge and quality lead the w210 to rust that nearly put Mercedes out of business ,
Runs through the whole range due to the silly rap round edge over the mudguards and the w210 was worse with a small curled round edge. funny how there galvernised body though .
Ich sag nur: Rost Rost Rost!!!! Leider... wenn man die Produktion sieht wie die Bleche gefertigt werden, muss doch schon etwas falsch gelaufen sein! :(
