Disruptive times

Not just Messerschmitt, the entire German aircraft industry is gone. Think of Focke-Wulf, Heinkel, Junkers, Dornier, Arado, etc. The factories were destroyed during the war and the designers had to find work elsewhere, like Tank, who went to Argentina. I know some of these companies made brief comebacks, but it was not the same, and while the construction of Panzers and U-Boats continues (mainly for the lucrative weapons export business) the construction of airplanes is a Pan-European project that produces ridiculous amounts of 4th generation planes that are simply made to keep these industries going and the trade unions happy.

It sounds harsher than a Merlin. This was noted during the war.

Yes...they BOTH are, but as a purist, I prefer the Daimler- powered ‘8’, over the Merlin-powered ‘27’.

In sim? I started flying sim a few weeks ago, its a beast

coming for them. Old timers swore German engine sounds were toned different. You learned the difference the first time you heard it. Survival depended on it.

Here's the joke as I heard it. An old Spitfire veteran is telling a primary school class about dogfighting and a "fokker" getting on his tail. The kids giggle and the teacher quickly explains that some of the German planes were built by Focke-Wulf. The old veteran looks at her and says, "Well, this fokker was a Messerschmidt."
