The gameplay changes alter the game quite drastically and make it very easy, also the music is now rubbish compared the iconic original, audio is 50% of the experience so trying to downplay this as some Gamecube hate is a bit short sighted.

​@@Reprogrammed_By_SEGANobody mention it but i think it is because Twin Snakes is based in some part (if we dont count obviously the MGS2 engine), to the japanese original version, which was way easier, like for example Ocelot had way less bullets.

@@Reprogrammed_By_SEGA Graphically, the game looks a million times better on the Gamecube and the models for the characters look like complete dog s*** in the original so there's definitely a lot we can compare between the 2 versions. The hate is unwarranted because it was never going to be 1:1 but with better graphics.

Like i get the tranq gun exists and you can aim in first person, but the enemies are way more aware, notice corpses and have the caution phase. You can't even cheese ocelot, something which i've heard of a lot, since his bullets richochet so he generally stays covered while he shoots. There's also nothing stopping you from just... not getting the M9 or never using first person mode. Both of these are entirely optional anyway. You're right about the soundtrack though. TTS' music is vastly inferior to the original, even if there's more individual tracks.

Kojima picked up a guy known to do over the top stuff, he did things rather close to the original, and Kojima asked him to go nuts instead.

I am one of those older fellas what played the ps1 original and lemme tell you I am firmly in the camp of “both are good, it’s two different storytellers telling the same story” - like ps1 is how snake tells it and twin snakes is breakfast story time from Otacon to Sunny

@@ekimlaf it's a 1998 game on vastly inferior hardware so what do you expect? I prefer the gritty artstyle of the original. Twin Snakes looks way too clean for me and not as clean as MGS2.

The gameplay is better in Twin Snakes which is its biggest strength. Some people just like the original more for nostalgic reasons or some elements that they prefer over Twin Snakes. The realistic style especially is something that turns people off because the original had such a cool art style. Any elements that were changed in Twin Snakes were done to make it like the later games.

@@yutro213 Yeah, I’ve read some form posts from salty fans about Twin Snakes being a GameCube exclusive. Many of them downplayed Twin Snakes with Snake Eater which was a PS2 exclusive at the time.

@@dmitryhetman1509 I just see it as different direction. Original is meant to be very gritty while GameCube remake is way over the top action. So the music is more or less made on that difference. But the music is pretty good in the original MGS1

yeah. the leap from low precision dozen of thounds of polygons to dozen millions of high precision high quality graphics was the biggest. Compare GT2 to GT3 too, GT3 still looks good today, GT2 on the other hand, looks almost like an old mobile Java game.

Errrrr, 4th to 5th generation? Have you seen the difference between Super Mario World and Super Mario 64? A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time?? Even comparing 3D games, look at the difference between Star Fox and Star Fox 64! And those games are only four years apart!!

@@jakobnipper4351 In most cases it is. I’ve seen people go off on how Twin Snakes sucks and the original is a perfect masterpiece with no flaws. Funny thing is, MGS1 has a lot of flaws. Some of these flaws were fixed in Twin Snakes or at least given an alternate solution. For example the back tracking has shortcuts that make it so you don’t have to go all the way back. Some minor things were also touched up.

People have upscaled the textures and made a widescreen hack for the PC version of the game. Not exactly what you're looking for, but the closest thing.

Really the only thing it wins in is obvious higher resolution and updated graphics. Everything else...nah. cutscenes - nah. Music - nah, voice acting - nah. Even the lower res voice recording in the original was a plus because it perfectly fit the caved in, subarctic atmosphere the game was set in

@Suyup Its not complete Garbage but its not a masterpiece either especially when compared to the original. If you ever plan on playing it. Do the original first then try out the twin snakes and see for yourself. If you want a copy of TTS, you’re likely better off emulating it since a CIB copy is 70-80$. Its not worth that price.

People don’t like change no matter if it’s good or bad.

Bad voice acting, bad soundtrack, bad controls, ridiculous over-the-top cutscenes, awful gameplay decisions which ruins the narrative of the game, puke-inducing inconsistent framerate. To say people dislike Twin Snakes due to ''change = bad'' is ridiculous.

Twin Snakes expanded the amount of music and focused a lot on atmospheric music. So I find it helps give off an unsettling feeling better than the original. But there are plenty of tracks from the original that I prefer. Both games have incredible soundtracks.

I'd give my left nut for a ps5 remake

@@filipeflower How can nostalgic cloud my judgment if I have played both games now I’ve played both games now the one thing I will give the twins Snakes is yes it has better graphics only because it was on a next generation console and yes it may have better gameplay but it focuses way too much on special Affects instead of actually focusing on the story which metal gear solid one does quite well so as a whole metal gear solid one on PlayStation one is the best and the second greatest metal gear game in the series

@@filipeflower I have actually played both games and I have played enough of those two games to actually form my own opinion on the matter and it’s not just a nostalgia Even though that is part of it that is not what is making my opinion it’s not even graphics it’s what game did I find As a whole and for me it is the original metal gear solid one not twin snakes Now if you’re asking me what metal gear solid game do I think is the best metal gear solid game it is definitely metal gear solid three and then metal gear solid one

And MGS1 soundtrack is memorable, TTS is a little generic TTS is cool but almost every fan knows PS1 version is better And they used TTS VA on MGS4 because of technology, they couldn’t put PS1 version because it was recorded in a house, so you could hear all the noises of the background if that version was put in MGS4

@@GuyOnAChair I would agree with that if Raiden didnt spin 2 Gekkos with his legs when he fought Vamp in MGS4. Compared to that, Gray Fox vs REX was quiet conservative. MGS has always had eccentric elements to it. Ninjas, Mechs, Ghosts, Vampires, Telepathy, Zombies (re-animated corpses), etc. So a Ninja being able to dodge bullets from a Bi-pedal mechanical T-rex fits the tone Kojima himself set.

That Cutscene is Better with the OG Version

The hot breath in the cold air is impressive as hell for '98! And when your prone you can see the rats scampering. But for real though, those were just pixels that moved like rats. Clever as hell I'd you ask me.

I’d say Twin Snakes is more atmospheric due to the creepy sounding music and more realistic lighting which makes some areas look more depressing.

@GAME CENTER How do you know how a legendary soldier acts? A legendary soldier can use whatever tactics they want including holdups to get information. Also not everyone who played the original first is going to stick with that version. Some people prefer Twin Snakes and vice versa.

@@anonymoususind yes but why change it if it ain't broken unless you're gonna properly redo it by tweaking slightly to match the new mood better. Resident Evil did that with it's remake and that's one of the reasons it remains the greatest video game remake of all time. It involved the same people who made the original but we're able to realize their vision with the passion they always had but in 95 they were restricted to the tech of that time. MGS was no where near that. Kojima had nothing to do with that and the only one that had that matching passion was David Hayter the voice of snake. Dude took a pay it to bring back as much of the original voice cast back. That right there should show how much the dev team were focused on the "ooohhs and aaahhs" of the enhanced visuals instead of an enhanced ful experience like Resident Evil.

@Kai’s Messiah Baby it's understandable that many didn't like the Twin Snakes OST but there's some which i still like such as the Twin Snakes main theme Psycho Mantis Boss theme. I just pointed out it's not awful. I guess they're trying to avoid repetition of having the boss theme a variation of the alert theme in the original for the boss fight though.

Other than the superior gameplay, soundtrack, voice acting, atmosphere, cutscenes, storytelling, framerate, and controls? Nah, no reason to play the original.

Better graphics don’t mean a thing the original had better sound design especially in music and voice actors, they made gray fox sound weak in this one while in the original it sounds like he is in constant pain

@@filipeflower They filled all the cut scenes with over the top action and martial arts BS, which were not present in the original. Weird fighting scenes with Ocelot and the cyborg ninja, in which Snake all of a sudden is some kind of martial arts master, which not only conflicts with the original MGS but also with Snake's time line as a whole. (the same goes for Solid Snake's CQC abilities in MGS4. They put that in, only to not lose game play aspects from the in-between titles which had "Big Boss"/"Naked Snake" as the main character who is Solid Snake's father. In MGS2 he also can't fight that way but it plays much later in the time line). Then there is this sequence in which Snake single handedly fights a helicopter, which is over the top in and of itself, but in Twin Snakes they made the helicopter shoot one final missile before crashing down, which Snakes then backflips right on top of it and shoots a stinger back at the helicopter. They over-exaggerated Meryl and Otacon and made them even more cartoonish and cliche characters than they already have been in the original. Also the music is completely remixed and overly action heavy for the most part, which totally ruins it for me, because the original had one of the greatest sound tracks in game history. The voice acting has been completely redone, but the performed of the voice actors is much worse than the first time, which grants for a lot cringe moments. They changed a lot of minor and major dialogue and also exchanged a few voice actors. They k1lled of Mei Ling's chinese accent she had in the original. They changed Snakes facial appearance to make it more look like MGS2 Snake, but didn't really nail it because he just looks weird in TS. Also this look absolutely conflicts with Snake's character concept of the original MGS, where Kojima wanted to have Snake look "like a young Christopher Walken" (he said that in an interview), which they really accomplished with the pixelated limitations they had in 1998. That kind of alterations. There is a lot videos on RU-vid where they compare the original MGS to TS in detail. There you can see clearly what I mean.
