You need to do live one take song Circle with Me. They don't make a bad sing. Great reaction

Great reaction! I really enjoy watching someone discover Spiritbox. The band was formed in 2017 and the vocalist's name is Courtney LaPlante - her husband Michael Stringer is the guitarist and the drummer is Zev Rose. Courtney writes the lyrics and vocal melodies, and Michael writes the instrumentals with input from Zev and Courtney too. Their producer, Daniel Braunstein, also works with Michael on the synth aspects. Courtney's vocal skills are amazing - she can switch between clean and harsh vocals instantly (there are numerous live one-take vocal videos of her on RU-vid and the one for a recent track of theirs which is very popular, Circle With Me, shows towards the end of the song how she can even do it mid-sentence or mid-word and back again - this particular fast switching is something she's added since the original release and she also does it in most live performances of the song now). Live gigs also show how good she and the band are. Michael and Zev are of course also both excellent musicians. Spiritbox are fascinating in that their exact style is hard to categorise - they're usually described as metalcore but it's hard to pin down as they are never predictable. Their earlier releases tended to be more in the progressive direction but it gradually changed and Rotoscope is another new direction - it was released with two other tracks which share some parts of Rotoscope's style but not all of it. Through their history, many of their tracks have a combination of clean and harsh vocals, but some are all harsh, others all clean. They initially released a self-titled EP in late 2017, followed by The Singles Collection EP in April 2019. They next released two stand-alone singles - Rule of Nines in late 2019 and Blessed Be in early 2020, both of which I'd say marked the start of a change in their sound. They came to many peoples' attention with the release of the track Holy Roller in around July 2020 - which is an all-harsh track with an entertainingly creepy video. Holy Roller was the first track to be pre-released from their full-length album, Eternal Blue, which was itself not released until September 2021 due mainly to delays caused by the pandemic - in the interim they released other tracks from it ahead of the album itself - Constance (with heart-breaking official music video) in late 2020, Circle With Me in early 2021, Secret Garden (more progressive style once again!) in spring/early summer 2021, and Hurt You (more of a nu-metal style) in summer 2021. Earlier this year, they released a track in collaboration with EDM DJ/producer/musician Illenium, called Shivering, and then they released the Rotoscope 3-track EP. Courtney was initially in a mathcore band with her brother Jackson, called Unicron, founded back in 2009/10. One of Unicron's later tracks is an interesting one to watch on RU-vid - Broken Vessels. She was approached by the band Iwrestledabearonce and joined them to replace their lead vocalist, Krysta Cameron, in 2012 when Krysta left to bring up a family. Michael Stringer also joined Iwrestledabearonce (from his former band, Fall in Archaea) in 2015 - he and Courtney had been engaged for several years already. The couple left IWABO in late 2015 to pursue their own joint musical path and started to work towards founding Spiritbox (having to work at normal jobs first to be in a position to be able to do so!). Courtney is always very open in interviews and is absolutely willing to admit that her musical influences are very wide and varied and she enjoys listening to all kinds of music as well as metal, including pop and dance. Apparently she started doing harsh vocals early on whilst in Unicron, and was effectively self-taught. From what I have read, as a result she carried a vocal injury for around eight years until late 2020, and managed it by increasing her understanding of harsh vocals, resting her voice carefully between performances, and worried a lot about the choice of whether to risk an operation to correct it, but finally in the winter of 2020 it healed naturally, saving her from that decision, thankfully.

If you would like to react to an artist you might not have heard of, I recommend Aesthetic Perfection with Gods and Gold. It features Richard Z Kruspe, one of the guitarists of Rammstein
