In 2000 they were both signed at the same record label. I'm guessing Interscope back then signed artists others thought were maybe too hot to handle. It's where the collaboration originated.
@@Rose-Dew Yeah you are right about that. Jimmy Iovine went after Trent Reznor and after he signed him, Reznor wanted Marilyn Manson on his label, so they all got brought in under Interscope. It's all in The Defiant Ones. Great doco

I love how the dad called this rock n roll and hes right, it does come in different forms, alot of rock/metal fans from 70s and 80s are stuck in that time and just dont wanna accept rap/hip-hop music as rock n roll or even as an art for that matter, new subscriber here, love the videos, and my request for yall is Sing for the Moment by Eminem. Great song and message from 2002.
great comment, and just to note, Em grew up in freaking Detroit. It's been the center intersection of rock music forever, it makes sense that Em adopted the rock star persona and rock influences
What slot of people don't know about is the deep connection between the Punk Rock Scene and the Hip Hop Scene and the fact that back in the '70s and early '80s one of the few places that rap music would get played is at Punk Rock clubs
Rock & Roll & Rap both created by black people. It's amazing to see a white dude like Eminem get so much respect from all the other rappers. He earned his respect...wow
Metal and real hip-hop (none of this mumble rap garbage) have a lot in common. Not surprised to see so many youtubers from both sides dabbling in the other and enjoying it. Both genres speak truth through emotion.
Daniel Day Lewis said he used these early Eminem songs to get him pumped up and full of confidence/ego before filming his scenes in Gangs of New York, for which I believe he won an Oscar for his performance
This song is on The Marshall Mathers Lp (2000). Ans yeah, he and Marylin Manson are friends and Eminem have a lot of rock influence too. You must react to Till I collapse from his 2002 The Eminem Show album and this song lyrically is probably his best, the sequence of mathematical syllable pattern of 8-7-7-5 in his last verse is just insane genius. After that, you can also check the analysis of till I collapse, just type "till I collapse breackdown analysis". Lose yourself is also really close to it lyrically speaking and the same youtuber did a breackdown analysis of lose yourself too.
Marilyn Manson actually is in the oficial video. They have also a couple of live performances together. And that scream at 09:17 it's actually Marilyn Manson.
I noticed you guys referring to the 155 million views on the official video as a sign of how popular it was. That's alright of course, but don't forget that the release of this song predates the existence of RU-vid by 5 years ;) The song was released in 2000, while the video didn't get uploaded until 2009. So those 155 million views are just fans going back to it almost a decade after its release ;) I'm not sure how much this was played/how big this was in the US as I'm from The Netherlands, but here it got played every our on TV stations like MTV and national equivalents...
I've always felt that metal and rap have a lot in common, including respect for craftsmanship. In metal it tends to be musicianship and instrumental skill, though lyricism is appreciated, while in rap lyricism is king, though delivery, flow, and beat selection are all respected. Both genres pay homage to the originals and the all-time greats, both genres are heavily international, both genres are countercultures with watered-down mainstream appeal, the list goes on. Metal and rap have more in common than not.
There's an official music video. This song is so iconic and legendary. You must watch it always help us to understand the song better. Portugal here for the Goat Eminem always since day one and forever.
Just wanted to say its pretty cool seeing u guys bridge a generational gap and being able to respect a icon in music together. I could offer numerous songs to respond to but honestly if u just fall down the em rabbit hole u will rarely be disappointed lol
I love your connection between metal and rap, I had that same thing in the punk scene back in the 90s, I think there's always been a bit of overlap in the fanbases there.
Great reaction! I agree with pops analysis about Eminem being easy to get into for people that like metal and rock. That was and still is my favorite genre but Eminem’s recently broaden my taste in hip hop.
He made this song when his fame was just skyrocketing. People were literally coming to His door and wanting pics and autographs and when he got pissed some of the people Would cry to the media. He started answering the door with a gun in his hand 😂 there’s a good interview about it.
Again, I like how you have the lyrics up. Its awesome that your dad has a workout list and list. I have a suggestion for his workout list from eminem. "Im a soldier". Would like to see if that song makes his list. Keep doing what your doing. Your subscribers will come. good luck
Love your channel man. My favorite part is the "Look where its at. Middle America now its a tragedy. now its so sad to see, an upper class city. Because shootings in low income areas are no longer a concern or shocking to people. For what it's worth the school shootings and subsequent attitudes (inaction) definitely shock the rest of the world each time. Much love from the Netherlands!
Sing for the Moment.....it has that Aerosmith "Dream On" sample! Be Well, Be Safe, I pray your job gets straightened out!💛 Keep putting out your content! 2000 The MarshallMathers LP
nah the vinyl effect at the end was just the raw unpolished feel they wanted. also it sounds like a fuse had been lit which goes with him expolding on the track.
the vinyl sound at the end was a transiton to the next song on the LP. Its kinda funny because that was the pop song of the album, and it came right after this one. But its kind of a middle finger to the industry.
That production that you guys talk about every video of Eminem's is all Dre. Dr. Dre is the unsung hero of Eminem's production sound and served as a teacher and mentor to Marshall. He's the reason that Eminem's latest stuff is still competing with any newcomers (and why Dre is still in Eminem's music videos). Love you guys, keep up the good work.
Awesome reaction! Il follow up on the idea on react to his newest album. Otherwise Not Alike with Royce is one of my favourite, No Love with Lil Wayne and from his last album, Darkness with music video as well as Gon Learn with Royce again :) Cheers!
You guys should follow No Life Shaq's page. He did a whole series as a rap guy getting to know metal. It's fun to watch his growing appreciation for it.
See, Eminem was very controversial back in the day with the things he says. Media, fellow musicians, family, didn’t matter. We all still loved him! He wrote a lot about this stuff. He references to a lot of the controversies in several of his older songs. Art. Pure art!
Manson is actually in the video for the song. They've performed this song live together. Also, he was talking about Manson getting blamed for the Columbine shootings. This song was on the MMLP which came out in 2000 and Columbine had just happened in 1999 so it was still recent at the time this album was released. Manson said he has been blamed for 36 school shootings. I remember watching the news live on columbine. I was only 11 at the time but they treated it like they did 9/11. What i mean is it got so much news coverage. I think the MEDIA airs these shootings live and talks about them for weeks and months at a time and basically glorifies them. So, naturally if a kid is suicidal and feels like they have nothing to lose they look at shooting up the school as a way to become famous. I did a lot of research on Columbine, it has to be the most famous shooting of all time.
The dad” this lyrics video has 36 million views…….. you think anyone goes back and watches this video like a thousand times” Me: goes back and watches the video 1000 times 😂
@13:00 Dad dude, I feel ya cause I feel where you're coming from. My comment self destructs in 6 seconds. I forgot how much I gravitated towards "The way I am" #
you guys should do some Onyx if you haven't. They are one of the first hip-hop groups to actually mix Metal with rap. They did a couple of songs with Biohazard and their style of rapping is comparable to thrash metal vocals imo. My uncle who got me into metal got me into Onyx as well because they are his favorite rap group.
i comment too much, but Em just does things: "What school did I go to, what hood I grew up in "The why, the who, what, when, the where, and the how.'" His 'education' was questionable, but he just broke down (and broke) the language on top of the grammar lesson he gave us. Dude is almost unbelievable.
