Creatively speaking, Metallica has probably had one of the most authentic and honest careers of any rock group. Their influences really spread the entire field of heavy music going back into the late 60s. They refused to be pigeonholed by anyone. Proof of that was their load, re-load, and st anger records. They caught a lot of shit for those works but they put them out anyway because that's what was going on in their writing at the time. There's even a clip on here where prior to the release of st anger, Lars said he knew it wasn't going to be a commercial success.

W ru talking?....Load n Reload responded to the age of the alt mainstream music of the 90s....St Anger was so influenced by Nu Metal of the beginning of 2000s
@MichaelAllen-po4eo
@MichaelAllen-po4eo 2 года назад
@@melquizedec You're missing the point. Let me explain this another way. They already had more money than they knew what to do with at the end of the "wherever i may roam" tour that finalized with the summer '94 amphitheater run across the U.S. They were tired of playing thrash and they were not going to be pigeonholed by the metal world into only doing their half dozen tricks that they had theretofore done. They totally went with what they wanted to do as opposed to feeling pressured to stay in their little box. I respect that. I didn't care for much of the music on load, re-load, and didn't like anything from st. Anger... but hey... they threw off every attempt by anyone of restraining them. They took a lot of shit for what they did from 1995-2007. Then they re-emerged on death magnetic and hardwired only to prove that they still have the stamina and steel.

Lars is my favorite drummer of all time! I never listen to the silly haters. All you need to do is listen to Lars' isolated drum tracks. He's brilliant! When I listen to Metallica albums I hear nothing but greatness. Mike Portnoy, Joey Jordison, and Mario Duplantier are just a few drummers that love Lars. I think they know a little about drumming. You don't luck into 10 plus multi platinum albums.

Lars is the perfect example of playing what the song requires. That’s really all that it comes down to. It’s not a drum clinic, it’s about laying down what’s right for the song. He is also very involved in the recording process of all the instruments and arrangements. I agree, there many , many haters of Lars Ulrich. But honestly, the guy is super passionate about his band and has become a brilliant musician/ businessman over the years. Lars Ulrich is a key element to Metallica’s success. People can hate on him all they want, but should ask themselves what have they accomplished lately ?

People like you out here complaining about not getting free music when these artists (especially the newer ones trying to make) worked their ass off on their stuff and didn’t get a dime for it. It’s like if you never got payed from your own job! You’d be pissed to! Now because of Napster it’s extremely hard for up and coming musicians to make money off their work. It’s barely about music anymore, everyone just asks for donations and they make money from live gigs alone. At least with stuff like Spotify or Apple Music you can still make some money, but in most cases you only get 20% or so of all profits! Y’all who supported Napster were just selfish nuts who hated on the rich for no reason other than them being rich!

@@JTCT371 they didn't slight me at all, i think they always made what was in their souls and i think they made some excellent stuff on those albums. it seems that some fan's version of what 'metallica' is is different from how metallica themselves see it, which is fine. all that music is is a language to communicate thoughts, feelings, and ideas, just like any other kind of language, and if you don't understand or can't relate to a message that someone is expressing to you, whether in music or verbal communication, you're naturally going to think it's all just a bunch of gobbledygook, and different messages will mean different things to you at different periods in your life. i say that the load and reload album combined have several of their greatest songs of all time on them, and particularly the former album is a very personal, emotional and intimate album with several outstanding tunes on it. i've followed a lot of the personal journey and more intimate details of the members of the band, and so it's very easy for me to understand and relate to their entire musical journey, and to me, none of it seems out of place, and everything i can gather tells me that they never sold out, and most people who think that are just simply unable to understand or relate to where the guys are coming from with the music. and i am speaking from experience where i've had moments where i think something is shit just because i don't understand it, or something just goes in one ear and out the other, and only in time does the true nature of something clear itself up in your mind, and you return once again to a piece of music and in my case a lot of that kind of stuff has turned into my favorite works of music, and i think how foolish i was to not pick up on it from the beginning. but ultimately, as i said before, music is a language, it's more than just simply notes and creating something that sounds good. for a lot of people, music is an identity, it's a message, a feeling, an idea, and certainly for you, it sounds like you carry many negative connotations around those albums, referring to them as sellouts, and referring to general themes of being overproduced, with inferred undertones of them having lost their 'soul' or 'genuineness'. that's one way to perceive it. all i can say is that from my perspective, none of that is true, and i can perceive so much rawness and honesty in something like the Load album, knowing what i know about the boys, and the subject matter and nature of that era of music, and it just makes me respect and love the band even more. so i think it really just depends on how understanding/empathic you are towards that kind of stuff. sorry for the long rant, i don't expect to be able to change your mind, i'm just hoping maybe you can understand a little more why someone might like their later albums
