Having few mates who happen to be fortunate enough making it to big stages in the industry, playing small packed club gig is way more intense according to them, because all eyes are on you, and they're super close looking at you whereas big stage, you don't really see them much, and you play what you've been playing all along.
On a massive festival stage you just see a sea of dots and flashes, plus you have loads of room to move around, and any mistakes will be swallowed by the outdoor acoustics. You can't get away with that shit in a tiny club. You fuck up, not only will everyone hear it, but they're so close that they'll see it too. I think you need to be at the top of your game more for a small venue than for a huge one.
Well i´m not sure if he actually went to his house, there´s several storys of him going to Lars house and Jason´s house, McGovney´s house was thei HQ, i´m not sure about Cliff. Is like me i had some good friends in life but somehow just 3 of them have went on my house.
Fresh Prince Of Darkness JUST WANT ONE THING, WORKING NETWORKING, AND YOUR GAME HAS CRUMBLED AND YOU’RE LEFT WITH JUST A SCREEN WHERES YOUR CONNECTION KING WIFI
Not to necro a comment but waaaay back in 95 there was this literal underground club in Nashville that was below this pool hall named Buffalo Billiards. Not sure what the clubs name was but it couldn't have fit more than 40 people comfortably. One day after playing billiards my friend and I went down to check it out and the place was damn near empty. Like 5 people were at the bar and I'd say about 8 milling around. The MC gets up on the stage and says "Hey there's not many people here but make some noise for these two guys that have one helleva sound. They call themselves Crystal Method." Ladies and gentlemen I'm no techno geek, or house tweeker, but that night, I swear I heard noises I had never heard before and sound that I haven't heard since. It was one of my favorite music experiences of my life. Afterwards we got to hang out with the guys as most people basically ignored them. We talked Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, as well as bands I had never heard before from Europe and just general bullshittery. It was pretty awesome.
Guy with the disposable camera at the end... the great pre-smartphone era of gigs. Here it is just raw, unfiltered experience of the performers and their audience. If you lived it, you're lucky.
Kirk's always been into old monster movies, magazines, and other horror-related collectibles and memorabilia. Did you ever see that one scene in "Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica" where they're doing the post-show meet-and-greet, and a fan has given Kirk his business card, and Kirk asks him "Do you have any of those 'murderer' cards? The new ones, with Jeffrey Dahmer?" That kinda says it all, right there.
Some dude having the best week ever 😂 Bob Rock ...lucky dog \m/ The fact that the nervousness is real at every level makes me feel better about my own anxieties.
This is why Metallica thrives while other bands died they are go with the flow and highly professional, always thinking and always looking around the next corner.
and it is so BEAUTIFUL to see at the very end of the video how Lars is perfectly normal communicating with the fans outside the club in 2003 without stupid smart phones, screaming fans go live on their social medias and taking annoying selfies. that year the annoying fans probably just had a „SNAKE“ on their nokia 3310‘s.
Its crazy to think as long as these guys have known each other, almost seems as if James has never been to Kirks house. But im sure the truth is he just hadnt been there in awhile especially since hes been to rehab and focusing on himself. Its great to see James happy and healthy then and now
Bob thought he was the new bass player and was so happy. On some kind of monster, when Rob comes in and they're all hugging, youcan see when bobs heart breaks when he hugs him.
James is so judgemental but not in a bad way really. I don't think he can help it. And he doesn't treat people badly or anything, but you can tell he thinks a lot people, places, and things are embarrassing or idiotic. Kirk's house is dumb, Bob rock smiling on stage was dumb, etc.
I love watching any Metallica footage, and honestly I don't even totally dig anything after Black (Really Justice....but Black has some really great songs, and the fucking production, my god). But I'm just so proud of these guys. I remember being like what 18-19 and I saw the Justice tour....then they played the Grammy's haha, that was huge for us Metalheads back then. Cool piece of history.
@@ericc.2789 Likely. What I dislike about this most is the idea that any one capable of playing bass could simply JOIN Metallica. As though personallities and metal attitude meant nothing. Metallica the franchise, at it were. As much as Metallica 'sold out' at the time, at least they were metal enough to have no hired Bob Rock as full-time bassist.
Kudos to Bob Rock, he's a really decent bass player and he seems to be enjoying himself which is something a lot of bands don't seem to want to look like they're doing because apparently it's not "serious". Fuck that shit! Smile, enjoy, and have a blast! Otherwise what's the point?
I didnt know he owned the actual Mark Ryden meat show cross painting. The biggest pain in the ass about playing Kimos was that narrow stairway you had to lug all your gear up.
James K in some kind of monster when he said “I think you guys will never ever find a permanent bass player” I was immediately put off. So disrespectful
Bib rock gave them what almost appears to be now an unrecoverable wound, theyve never been the same since. Not one single sokid album with EVERY song a quality metal song since black, arguably....
James isnt standing because he hadnt played or practiced in a year or so at this time. And playing sitting down is easier for sure. Also he was just getting done with rehab stuff so maybe he was in that "James hetfield" mode
