Today, I finally get to share with you what happened to me last year working at an insurance company riddled with sexual harassment and retaliation. A coworker followed me into the restroom and HR blamed me.

Someone told me right off the bat that "HR isn't there for you, they're there for the company" I work for the State, a union bureaucratic type gig, and it's all the same. The worst part of it all is realizing this is how so many places of businesses operate that switching jobs probably won't fix things

I'm sorry you had to go through that. It's so gross that this kind of crap just gets left to happen. That guy talking about the little girl utterly disgusted me and frankly that should have gotten him on a bloody legal watch list. Edit: Honestly, the more I listen to this story the more I think you need to name and shame this company. Dunno if you guys have a local equivalent to something like "Hello Peter". It's a site where people review their experience with companies.

We have LinkedIn, Indeed, and Google. We tried reviewing the company on all 3 of those and all 3 said that the words "sexual harassment" could not be published because it was "too graphic". But experiencing this was "too graphic" if you ask me.

@@PoweredByRainbows It's so disgusting how these stupid censoring algorithms never seem to censor _acually harmful_ shit, but always censor those trying to speak up about it. If I was a pessimistic sort I'd be tempted to think it's intentional. 😑

Honestly the AI thing has made me consider working with it if only that if a computer does something shitty I can *actually make it stop and move on to doing something better* as gross as training data can be, removing bad training data is possible and often simple. removing a real, live bigot with power/seniority over you is not

@@PoweredByRainbowsyeah, there’s a lot of things like that, honestly things like that aren’t just dangerous due to being bad actors, but other reasons too. Such as: * false support (rainbow capitalism) * providing a camouflage for harmful policies (second thought recently made a video on this, I recommend watching it) * and other nefarious things that I can’t think of right now because brain goes brr.

If the bathroom thing happened to me, it would simply shatter me and all ability to continue working there. I would probably never set foot on company grounds again. I hate to pull the "you're a trooper" card when you were actually being victimized, but damn, dude. You have patience, courage, and diligence beyond my scope of comprehension. You did every single thing by the book and it's not your fault that, unfortunately, capitalism punishes anyone who dares to rock the boat. You didn't deserve any of this; thank you for being vulnerable with your story, I'm sure there are many people who work in a toxic office culture who can relate and maybe still be able to take away some advice from the steps you took to defend yourself.

I am so sorry this happened, the fact that an unofficial backlist exists for workers who refuse to take abuse is appalling, and I bet is the reason why so many HR workers ignore any problems because you're right. These Companies would lose billions if the world knew. I am so sorry you experienced this and I hope that you either are able to move on from this and are able to find a really great company to work for or that you can find a way to take these people to court for harassment and for blacklisting you if you ever wanted to do that. But for right now, I wish you happiness, and I hope that your channel grows and you are able to make it into a lucrative and more profitable career. It's beautiful that you give a safe space for queer youth. I wish you and your husband so much happiness!

Even near the beginning, I can tell you that them asking you to commit to working for them until retirement, citing "high turnover", is a HUGE red flag 🚩. To anyone else reading this, if someone tells you that at a job interview, run, don't walk! 🚩🚩🚩 Personally, I think it's creepy enough if an interviewer says that they think of one another as "family". You don't need a family. You need a job! Edit: After listening to this to the end (at my desk job, while doing another task), I feel sickened by what you've described. I have personally experienced willful sexual harassment on a few occasions, and been made a bit wiser by the experience. My "entry level" job was delivering food and I had a co-worker whom I suspect was grooming me to be raped by him. At the time, I was a combination of lonely and naive, which would have made me an ideal victim, I think. Said co-worker was eventually fired for stealing money from the company. My harasser was a charismatic and openly bisexual man who was in an opposite-sex relationship with another co-worker. They were conventionally attractive. He did not check the boxes of the stereotype of the "creepy" guy who does this stuff, but the signs were there. Late at night, he would sometimes threaten to "punch someone in the face" and sometimes he would punch the wall to show his punching technique. One co-worker said that she saw him punch the wall until his knuckles began to bleed. On one occasion, he gave me a task to do and told me that I would have to complete the task or else I would be "punched in the face for real". I never reported any of his behavior or his sexual harassment. I will confess that I was not a perfect victim, and there are things I would do differently, but no one deserved to be treated at work the way he treated me, and I was told after he left that he was doing the same thing to others. I turned forty last week, and in the years after I left that company, I've never experienced anything like it. Looking back, I practically want to go and shake my past self and warn them of how much danger they were in every day. Capitalism is a hell of a drug; we were all there because we needed to make a living, and the fat tips you'd sometimes get from delivering food made it feel worthwhile at the time. All of you here, folks of all ages and genders, I urge you to carefully listen to what "Powered by Rainbows" is saying. This kind of stuff sounds so unbelievable that it couldn't happen, but it does. The story in this video is absolutely believable to me. Thank you for sharing and I hope everyone will take your words under advisement! You'd think that capitalism would demand that an employee who signs millions of dollars of business to a company should be protected, but that's not how some people work. It's cronyism and power and office politics. (See also: "Bullshit Jobs")

First off, thank you so much for the donation to our channel. Second, thank you for the comment. That's exactly why I made the video. If I wanted revenge on them, I could have easily mentioned their name in the video but this was more about making sure gay and bi men know they are not alone in being victims of sexual harassment. Not too many people speak up because they are afraid to so I deeply appreciate someone recognizing that. So, thank you again for everything. Your donation will be used to help us provide more LGBTQ education videos in the future. Much love and rainbows, Professor Pride.

What good are all of these laws and policies if no one does anything to enforce them?? And what good are lawyers if they can't pursue a very important claim to protect people against harassment unless it has a big monetary pay out?? I'm sure there really isn't anything you can do about all this since it doesn't sound like any of these issues were "extreme" enough to warrant police intervention or something, but it all still feels pretty criminal to me. My only recommendation is seeing if you can work someplace with a union since then you will at least have them to turn to if anything bad happens again.

Oh, this is disgusting...reminds me of my mom's coworkers. They had corn posters in the changing rooms, and the previous manager was only muted instead of fired when he broke 2 of a patient's fingers. Oh and they bullied her for years until she just couldn't find the strength to come back and she got fired. Don't ask me how she's doing now, I'm just being metoo.. I know (personally, as in friends and family) 7 people who got r*ped =] I only counted because I thought it was the tenth one and that drove me crazy so I'm glad it's actually 7 instead of 10. hahaaa..society is deranged.

To everyone. RULE # 1: always cover your azz. Idc how much you love them, Idc how much you trust them, Cover your azz. Maybe it's my trauma speaking but my trauma And trust issues saved my azz many times. My Ex tried to frame me for stealing for something of theirs. And I loved and trusted them but if I didn't cover my azz they probably would have gotten away with it. And when I say frame me I mean more like to blackmail me into what they wanted me to do. Always cover your azz. Have receipts and have back up for theos to. Especially when you work with other people. Take screan shots of everything. Keep meticulous notes of what people say. And if at all possible get evidence of it to. And always leave away out.

I'm sorry you went through this, and trust me I did watch the entire video. But halfway through, I started rolling my eyes, after your move to a different cubicle. That's when I thought of you as being overly sensitive. I have active hearing too, and have to force myself, not to listen to the conversations around me. You kept your head down, but you were also taking notes, not once did you mention to the people around, that you didn't need to hear such things. You at least have the opportunity to wear headphones. Sure, you have to learn how to get along, but with my current situation, I have to be strictly business with my coworkers, just to mitigate any rumors. You had a bad trainer, but also came into an existing office culture. And about the bathroom come on, couldn't you at least stand up for yourself? No, means NO! And if you keep getting hit up on, that's actually sexual harassment. You avoided the issue, even went to a different floor's restroom. I'm not defending what others say in the workplace, but you can't change an office's culture running to HR. I'm speaking from experience, as a previously gay office worker, to trans woman warehouse worker. I wish I could have stayed in my field of expertise, but had to take what I could find.

Really sorry that you're in this situation, but in the twisted world of HR and a company's self protection, it all makes sense. HR is there to serve the company and it's best interest and unfortunately it's almost always the complaining employee who is punished, rather than the person responsible for the damage. This state of behaviour is wrong on every level. morally, ethically and legally. The catch is: You need to be aware of this, but no one ever tells you. Your first response should be to quietly find another job and just write them off... Karma is a very long acting force, but eventually the people involve suffer for their actions and words. You'll may never know it, but it will happen because they will do/say the wrong thing to the wrong person eventually, and a door will close for them with, or without, their knowledge

@@PoweredByRainbows also, read your comment a second time. I’m being serious. False allegations of SA are very dangerous for multiple reasons, but the two primary reasons is that it both reduces the chances someone who actually was SA’d will be believed, and those allegations have, can, and will be used to hurt people, including blaming the victims of the act! A real allegation of SA should be believed and I believe you, as you’ve been trustworthy so far. However a false allegation is harmful and dangerous. Again because it can invalidate true allegations. Also I’m glad that you asked me what I meant! I have a tendency to be easily misunderstood and it’s making me wonder if I should have even learned how to speak/type/write/have any kind of communication output from myself. I try to be as specific and flat as I can and exclude emotion from what I say, but everything I say is taken the wrong way… (honestly I don’t know what to do as people probably see me as a bigot and a transphobe when I myself am (technically) trans, by way of being Nonbinary. I still argue with myself on if that actually counts, but it’s within the trans umbrella so I guess it does? And I’m trying my hardest not to be one.)
@unyu-cyberstorm64
@unyu-cyberstorm64 3 месяца назад
@@PoweredByRainbows I also remember that # being used nefariously a lot when it initially started. And false allegations of SA have always existed and they’re just as bad as SA I think. If you got SA’d (like you did, and this is general advice for everyone) GET. HELP. But it you didn’t get SA’d. Don’t falsely accuse someone of it. SA needs to be taken seriously. And false allegations make that more difficult. Meow meow!
