I agree. I think the reason why Metroid Prime 1 feels more hollow is because there is no one to talk to. Half the story is told in lore prior to Samus' arrival. MP2, however, is more lively. I know, MP2 is not much better. However, MP2 has more layers. MP1 only had one real antagonistic group, MP2 had 2 and the GF was more involved. Plus, MP2 felt fresher because it was a lot more original. It didn't rely on the pre-existing idea of the Chozo. The Luminoth were new.
My favorite game series, just listening to two seconds makes me want to go back to Aether. For future listeners, this theme is a remix of Brinstar (Underground Depths) from Super Metroid. Personally I prefer this version, its just so, good.
@@chadsteadman2604 yeah you're right I just realised and fixed my mistake. You see the thing is I read and wrote ''lower brinstar'' while thinking ''lower norfair''. Silly me.
@@stormy2049 Oddly enough, there are more results for "Lower Brinstar" than "Red Soil Brinstar". The track is also titled "Lower Brinstar" in the Samus Returns Soundtrack
The Gravity Boost made this area a lot more fun. Not only does it lower your gravity underwater for unhindered movement, it has a thruster that can make you rise further (only when underwater, of course).
Another random Tristan never as much as zelda or mario but the consensus is that it’s basically the third of the triumvirate in nintendo games. Its fan base may be relatively small but its a fiercely dedicated one. Releasing trilogy on switch would get a lot of preorders and be a quick but for nintendo.
Yeah every time it feels like that I just gotta remind myself that I’m playing as a bounty hunter that has faced off against giant monsters army’s of space pirates and many kinds of wildlife that have tried to kill samus in the past also capable of dropping power bombs that literally destroy almost anything in its way
@@michaelm5405 They do an AMAZING job of making you feel like your suit is the only thing between you and instant or a painful death. and in this game... when you first have no choice but to go to the dark realm, yo ufeel like your suit is failing you. it's really terrifying. Even when you get the "Dark Suit" you still cannot stay forever on the other side. That build up though makes getting the Light suit So much more rewarding.
The first time I walked into this room and heard this sound.... to this day, I have never had so many nostalgic chills run up and down my spine. I am soo soo glad that they brought this track back from Super Metroid!
Hearing this in the game was nostalgia to super metroid, and hearing this now is nostalgia to metroid prime 2 echoes. So this is basically a nostalgiaception.
Something I hadn't noticed until recently was that the Multiplayer theme (because who plays multiplayer for MP2) is also a remix of Green Brinstar from Super Metroid
I didn't even know at first cuz I played prime 1 and 2 before I played super metroid lol. Then while I was playing super metroid I was like "oh is this where that underwater theme in prime 2 is from? Nice."
Reverse for me. I played Echoes FAR before Super Metroid. In Super Metroid i was like "hey wtf, it is the submerged spaceship from Metroid Prime 1". Of course i was wrong, it was Torvus Catacombs ! Fun fact, even if i didn't know the Super Nes version, this music was one of the best for me, then no nostalgia interferred ! Truly a great piece !
Going into the catacombs here was my favorite part, Metroid prime really does have its special touch to its music, and this perfectly shows it, I love how relaxing and Erie this theme is and same goes for the rest, I love the Metroid prime ost to the bone, and I wish Nintendo showed more affection to Metroid nowadays, it just feels forgotten for such an atmospheric game, that shows that not all Nintendo games are happy go lucky, and Metroid sculpts that into perfection for these wonderful games, and not to mention how this song in particular made me hum it to my self every time I was in these catacombs, I love it.
It’s always great to hear remixes of old Metroid songs in the new games. I hope when prime 4 comes out that they finally include a boss against kraid, and they could remix the super Metroid boss music in the prime style or something. Maybe even have an area before the boss with a prime remix of kraid’s lair. That’d sound so good.
One of the best remixes ever. Original song I believe is the Red Soil Swampy Area of Lower Brinstar from Super Metroid. This level drove my brother and sister crazy (and even I got lost in it for a while because of how labyrinthine it is, despite my well-developed spatial reasoning) with the fact that you have to travel to the very bottom of the subterranean underwater complex to pass through a portal to the Dark Aether, and they couldn't find it because it is in a tiny alcove at the very bottom, under the boss fight arena.
I just realized...those whistles used often in the Prime ost sort of create this homage effect to old UFO sounds. Because it sounds "Alien", what a fucking genius this entire trilogy (soon to be quad) is.
@@chrisnichols9014 Honestly this is by far the only series that gave me that feeling, yet also doesn't come off as cheesy when many other similar genres of video game music just tried too hard.
This always put me into suspended animation since the original version and Metroid Prime 2 has did me in and I had to sing along with it in my voice. Lost at sea and yet so hopeful doing a ceremonial dance
This song is going to be burned into my memory. First discovered it watching JimmyHere his YLYL video. This song came into my life when I took a contract job at the IRS for a night shift position. Had never worked for the government before so it felt strange and alien. Once the contract was up, this popped up it was as if RU-vid was trying to give me this song as a reprise track on an album. Ngl, my job at the IRS was boring as hell but I met some interesting people and I miss them for sure
Unfortunately, from what I understand, they never will because of the way US music copyright law works. If they sold the soundtracks in the US, other people could legally make cover versions as long as they pay Nintendo a certain royalty, and Nintendo wants to keep more control over its ip than that. :(
I know this is from Metroid but I can easily see this fitting in a Halo level for something like a Flood infested Forerunner installation as you venture through the biomass covered hallways and fight through Flood forms
I played through this game fairly recently (I played 1 and 3 as a kid) and even at my very adult age this area instilled a fear in me I have forgotten, something about being underwater in a tight space with those enemies and having to wait for them to charge at really just filled me with dread and anxiety. Even just listening to this relatively calm song is enough to bring back some of that fear
Love this song fr never knew it was on super metroid till I finally played it on my switch love both tracks but the creatures down there definitely scared me at times some u didnt even know they was there till they hit u from behind and fast to lol
@@fadyk85 Yeah, been a minute... But it was leaked that maybe at the next Nintendo Direct they will drop Prime 2 and 3 remasters. I really hope it's true but we will see...
I never played this game, only 2 for the Gameboy, but I get the exact same sense of eerie desolation and lonliness. My God did these games nail it with the atmosphere.
