@@theunpopularcuber9554 this is a Gamecube original game we're talking about so in my opinion 39.99$ asking price is perfect for this game as a Remastered edition.

A lot of the sound effects were touched up as well. I've also noticed some extra ambient sounds in some areas. There was also completely different music in one of the early boss battles. All very nice touches.

don't forget multiple control schemes, duals sticks, motion and hybrid, really this should be the way. then people can enjoy it however they like. They've got a double dip from me!

Finished the remaining chapters of Dead Space yesterday in a 8h session in order to play and finish Hogwarts Legacy till the release of PSVR2. Now i have another game i want to complete…

Looks just like how I remembered it as a kid...

I was hoping for a comparison vid to pop, because I couldn't tell exactly how much it changed. And geez, there is no comparison to make, it's MILES better looking. Textbook example of a great remake.

For real, kept thinking during the trailer “damn it seems like they haven’t changed much” but seeing the comparison is night and day

Only thing I don't like is how matte Samus looks now :/ still, beyond stoked how great this remaster is. So many great control options

I played through the opening area right after it dropped and thought “yeah this is exactly how I remember it looking.” Then I watched this video and wow, huge improvements.

Absolutely looks like it. Going further, it appears some of the overworld was remapped, so collision and geometry may have been updated as well.

not "some of the assets", all the assets. Every single 3d asset has been remade.

@@lecrevisse8160 I can't be sure just watching footage. The character models/skeletons look the same, as does the rigging. Maybe I need to get my hands on it to be sure, but that will be on the 22nd with the physical release. If you got the digital, let me know if I'm missing anything just watching the footage! =D

Prime 1 didn't age as well as 2, but I think that might be because the development of 1 started out on the N64 and I think some of the textures and models may have been designed for that, and that's why they are so pixelated/blocky, but otherwise its still a beautiful game. The remaster is pretty much better overall, but something feels flatter about it that I can't figure out. I think the lighting or something isn't contrasted as much, or the remaster has a filter over the screen that makes things not pop out as much as the original. Unless that is just Tallon's fog?

@GBDupree you are right that some elements and particularly Samus suit appear less colorful, which in the latter case is a shame as its beautiful orange and red armor looks very bland and grey. That's the only visual grip I had with this otherwise stellar remaster. I even liked the new doors ahah

Yeah. It feels like a graphical remake like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask 3D were to OOT and MM.

@@knuclear200x It may be old, but it's still better than at least 90% of the games released in the 20 years that followed and it still feels unique to play next to basically anything other than Metroid Prime 2 and 3.

It actually goes to show the opposite. Even good art design may need some dramatic visual overhaul to lift it up to current standards.

It's the same ambience, but updated for the time. Basically how Prime 1 is remembered back when it was first released. I wonder how many speedrunning techniques will transfer.

Now if we can get a port of Wind Waker HD to either the switch or the next gen switch too

@@thiagovidal6137 I played the original just a year ago and I holds up amazingly, the remaster is beautiful but that doens't mean the original doens't have some of the best visuals of its decade.

I can't wait to see how 4 is going to look if Prime looks THIS good.

Maybe at the end of this year we'll hear about Prime 2, then Prime 3 soon after that. (since they should all be done by now) It has to be before Prime 4, so it has to allign well.

For reals man bro. I lowkey thought it was me that thought that the Twilight Princess HD wasn't that great. It was good but it could have been better.

Twilight princess hd is an incredible remaster, just compare the textures from the wii original and then the remastered version

@@fausthanos08 I mean yeah, the textures look more enhanced in the Wii U remaster, but they could’ve done more than that. They could’ve followed the same thing that they did with Wind Waker HD for TPHD: 1: Higher quality textures 2: Use the same sounds but in higher quality/ uncompressed audio, same with the soundtrack, because the audio quality doesn’t sound any different from its previous versions of TP. 3: Improve the graphics with new models while still keeping the original art style intact.

If it ever gets released. Getting real Duke Nukem Four-ever vibes from MP4!

MP4 is probably going to realease for Nintendo's next console as a crossgen game with Switch, i'm sure of it at this point

I was blown away by all the excellent control schemes. Been swapping between Gc and Wii, since I played all three on the original systems (and still have them)

CE anniversary fucked with the art style. This one remained true H2A however...? That was next level

@@Matanumi I still can't believe the CE Anniversary changed a graphic due to a rendering bug in the PC version. They didn't even check the original xbox version to see how they where supposed to look.

Except the art style is still intact and it wasn't developed by a company who's CEO is a pedophile

CE Anniversary is terrible, though. Changing the graphics back to the original is the first thing I do when starting the game.

Agreed, like yeah you can see the difference, but the original still manages to accomplish the same level of awes inspiring atmosphere in my book.

Basically all of nintendo's 6th and 7th gen games hold up super well. They've never been about pure realism and strived for good art direction. It's why a lot of their games age well graphically even if they're dated in many aspects. They know how to hide the technical limitations of their consoles, even to this day.

Twilight Princess had a substantial graphical overhaul. It was Skyward Sword that was basically legal emulation.

If Prime remastered sells very well than you & the rest of the gamers can play Prime 2 remastered & most likely Prime 3 remastered.

For the next remaster I hope they improve the rain, I loved the rainy and foggy feel of Torvus Bog, but the rain in this remaster is so light compared to the original, so I really hope they don't remove the heavy rain of Torvus. Also, I don't mind if they redesign the suit a bit, either remove the part of the visor that sticks up, or add that to the HUD, that always bothered me that they changed the visor shape from the outside but then forgot to do it for the inside. And any changes that don't affect much, like the dark and light beam variants of the Super Missile (whatever they are called) being more than just a poor super missile that is just a slightly stronger beam attack, would be nice. This isn't a big deal to change because nothing in the game requires them, so they normally feel like unnecessary upgrades that end up never being used because they aren't very good, but if they were good then at least collecting them would be more useful for combat than they are now. And if they can make it to where some of the final keys to the final boss are now collectable early on (even if its still well hidden, so its hard to do without prior knowledge) instead of locked until the very end, that would be nice.

@@GBDupree Making rain finer just so it looks "more realistic" seems to be somewhat of a trend that's popped out recently... A bad trend. Hope they make it as heavy as it should be.

I played it when it released on Gamecube, it was and still is one of my favorite games of all time.

The original had the same thing pop up in my head though: how does this run on a GameCube at 60 fps no less?! It's just great how the "same game" does the same thing TWICE!

I can't seem to find ANY game nowadays with actual heavy rain, so I'm starting to wonder if its a limitation of Unreal Engine (if this game even runs on it), or developers nowadays don't know what heavy rain looks like somehow.

@@GBDupree I think is because real heavy rain in videogames would hinder the visibility a lot and that would be ok if it is what you want, but in this case been just like "ambient rain" I think was a good choise.

You won't be disappointed mate... If you like feeling of isolation, exploring, amazing world building, epic fights and music, then this is the good stuff. Everywhere you'll go you'll feel like the places are filled with stories, this trilogy had a unique feeling in this regard, and I hope we'll get remaster of all of them

Was it actually Retro who made the game? I can't seem to find any info on the developers or the development of the game. Like is it using the original engine as well?

Gonna go with disagree. The old graphics are an eyesore unless you have rose colored glasses on. This was desperately needed.

@@Dyskresiac The artsyle was still good on the original, it just needed less pixelated textures and smoother models, especially since its likely a lot of its assets were designed for the N64. Prime 2 and 3 fixed this and look better, but I think they could still use better graphics. But I wouldn't say anyone is just nostalgia blind for liking the original, it still has a good style especially if you are someone who can appreciate older graphics.

@@2yoyoyo1Unplugged it is much darker on my C1 OLED than it is in this video. It's really annoying. Do you have this issue? Is the brightness the same for you as it is in this video? Where I can really see the difference is that room with the big dead burning creature in the beginning. Parts of that room are pitch black for me whereas in this video it looks fine

@@DarkReturns1 that’s just the nature of the OLED. The contrast is way better on it. The room is meant to be that dark, and the lights that you make by shooting should be super striking.

@@2yoyoyo1Unplugged true, but I watched the video on my OLED. It didn't have that extreme darkness issue. When I play the actual game it seems to suffer from black crush. Even more weird is that some walls and dead enemies will be well lit at a distance, but when I get close to look at them they get dark. This is on the beginning frigate ship.

@@DarkReturns1 may be a glitch. Remember though that the video is footage from a recording of the game. That isn’t gonna show true black.

So how do you switch beams because if I remember correctly in the original it was the right stick.

I played just a prologue last night before bed. It's been a year or 2 since I touched the original version, so I wasn't entirely sure how much of what I was seeing was improved. Actually seeing the old game again, I am reminded of how low the detail was. I always remember games looking better than they do.

That's clearly what they did to some degree or another! Samus is sporting an ENTIRELY NEW MODEL.

It looks like all of the assets are redone entirely. It's like the Final Fantasy Crisis Core remake where I assume it's running on the same code as the original but all the assets are new along side it running in a completely new engine that allows for dynamic lighting and all kinds of other modern effects

CE's art style wasn't as faithful as the original as they use Reach assets from Bungie's last Halo game in the Anniversary Edition of Combat Evolved. Glad there is a button to switch between the old and the new graphics based on their preferences.

Eh not really, Halo Anniversary made some pretty huge changes to the original game and ended up way worse off for it. Plus that was pretty blatantly reusing assets from other games that didn’t fit together like how the Marines and Elites were from Reach but when they got infected by the Flood now they’re using their 3 designs. This is like an actually faithful update to the original.

@@crestofhonor2349 yeah I think so, but the difference between TP and BOTW is that people loved TP more on the older console, but people love BOTW more on the new console

@@hello-mv6yg That's more down to controls and the fact that Nintendo made the really strange decision to reverse the entire game on the Wii. Other than that the games are fundamentally identical visually. BoTW on switch has some pretty clear advantages over the Wii U version such as a better frame rate, higher resolution, and the fact that it is portable.

@@crestofhonor2349 I think Nintendo reversed the controls because most people are right handed and holding the wiimote in the right hand, so they thought to make Link right handed. But they could've made an option for lefties and righties.

It's a remaster in the best sense of the word. As someone who pays attention to gaming details, the difference is like night and day. Most masters simply improve the lighting, textures, and effects in a game, but they gave this game brand new models and everything.

It's a lot like Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core where all the assets are redone but the game is likely running on the same code.

That was something that was a bit "weird" to me. The original graphics give their own original vibe. This remaster however...makes me feel Dead Space vibes a bit. Especially the Frigate section.

You do! It's slightly hidden away though, just switch to the dual analog controls and then scroll down in the menu until you get to the camera section, there you can enable gyro

You can do Dual Analogue with gyro! I'm playing it that way and it's brilliant.

No they're very much still using cube maps. I didn't see any SSR for reflections nor any use of techniques like planar reflections. They're just much higher resolution cube maps that are better aligned to the geometry of the world

@@crestofhonor2349 Yeah, I watched a little bit more and realized that. The gun in particular might be using a more matte finish cube map and what I was seeing was the new lighting engine adding the apparent reflectivity.

As far as I can tell, no. I don't think the GC version had a reticle at all iirc.

Yes, they said in Nintendo Direct that you can use new 2-analog control style or original GC control style. 😉
