Mew2King's Brawl Tier List Mid Tier & High Tier 

Something I wish was talked about more was Fox's Shine. It was so good in Brawl. For one, not counting Cancelling it like 64 or Melee, Fox's Shine had the LEAST FAF it's ever had in the entire series. Only 22 FAF, and supposedly less when Airborne. Also in this game unlike Ultimate where you can only Shine Stall once, Fox can Shine Stall indefinitely. Given the short FAF, I'm sure you've seen Fox's do "BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP" in the air. He has the fastest fall speed in the game, but with this he could essentially become a floaty. This is a good mix up in Disadvantage due to how little lag it has, how it adds to Recovery Mix Ups, or how Fox's Shine still has Frame 1 Intangibility. Oh yeah, it has Frame 1 Intangibility. All the way from Frames 1-3. Frame 3 is also when the Hitbox is active. It's also while obviously worse than Melee, still a great offensive tool too. In terms of Edge Guarding, while it may not have Set Knockback, it instead has Low Knockback similar to 64 & Melee (but not 100% of course) but with Knockback growth (like Ultimate). It may not send at 0 degrees like 64 & Melee, but it doesn't need to, cause 10 degrees is STILL very good (like Ultimate, tho it matters more here due to less FAF AND the game has Edge Hogging). This meant the Higher the %, the better it gets for Off Stage Edge Guards. On top of that tho, against characters with Bad Enough Recoveries, it would be a good gimping tool even at low %. Especially when taking into account it's low risk due to how Deep Fox can go for the Edge Guard and reliably make it back (thanks to the Fox Copter via Forward Air, which by the way Auto Cancels on Short Hop, on top of his Nair & Dair both being great Edge Guarding tools) but the incredibly low FAF. This also means Fox can combo off it too. On Yoshi's Island Brawl, if Fox is Edge Guarding you and he manages to Shine you against the wall, Fox can just Shine over and over and it's 100% true. He'll then do this until you're low enough to not be able to make it back, and then HE makes it back. Also while doing a Normal Dash Shine requires the Initial Dash to be over, Fox can get around this via Jump. You can jump during ANY Frame of the Initial Dash, and the shortest Jump Squats are 4 Frames. Fox has a 4 Frame Jumpquat. Dash -> Jump -> Shine. This means out of a Dash or Run he can Shine whenever he wants. Aerial Shine MAY also have slightly less Laggy than normal Grounded Shine. Problem is of course it can be outranged, and doing it this way makes it from a Frame 3 move to a Frame 7 move (3 + 4 Frame Jump Squat). Tho with that few FAF in mind, would Fox not be able to do Shine -> Dash Attack as a True Combo? And then said Dash Attack Frame Trapping or True Comboing into Up Tilt which leads to more Frame Traps/Combos into Aerials or just whatever else? Would Fox not be able to do Shine -> Up Smash as a True Combo? One thing that I'm confident in tho is that unless Fox has a Wall or steep enough Slopes, Shine -> Shine should NOT work nor be a True Combo (unless I'm wrong LOL). This is all just for one move. This isn't mentioning the Fox Copter (or how Short Hop Fair Auto Cancels, meaning Fox could Combo or Frame off the Last Hit, but during the Multihits of course you can SDI it, including if getting hit with Full Hop Fair, but even then it has little End Lag anyway), his Jab Traps (like most other characters), his incredible Back Air which Semi Spiked, was SUPER strong and Auto Cancelled HELLA generously making it a combo starter, his Up Air still being good for off the top Juggles (okay this one's not as big a deal cause Up Air has always done that), his Nair having only 9 Frames of Landing Lag which for Aerials is typicallythe least landing lag possi le (save for Zairs), or how Fox's Illusion could be used as a Mix Up to Cross Up Shields if Airborne (tho Falco's was better due to Faster Start Up), could be used like Melee where there's Illusion Shortening (Falco also has Phantasm Shortening and Wolf has Flash Shortening) of 3 different Lengths. Short Shorten, Mid Shorten, Long Shorten. Unlike Melee tho, Long Shorten actually caused you to get MORE Horizontal Distance than a Normal Fox Illusiom because you gained a HUGE burst of momentum from doing this Technique. Illusion (& Phantasm) could also be used for Planking. By far the dumbest thing about Fox to me is his Dair, which literally never stops being a Combo Starter. Heck at High Enough %, Down Air -> Up Smash is a thing (which actually showed up in some clips of this very video). This was due to it only having 12 Frames of Landing Lag, but on top of that it is NOT Set Knockback like 64 & Melee. It has actual Knockback Growth to it, but since it doesn't really put people into Tumble like that, and EVERY Hitbox Meteors, and the game is Floath enough + having Edge Hogging, Fox's Down Air is an actually good Edge Guarding tool (of course may depend on the match up in terms of how bad the recovery is). Whether be Rising Double Jump Dair, falling Dair -> Shine (not a true combo while Airborne, but people get/got caught by it often), or fhe Foxcide where you Dair over and over and both die (I don't know if you can Dair -> Footstool and I don't even know if this has ever been tested or thought about, as I randomly thougbt of Fair -> Footstool). Oh and by the way, if Fox gets the opponent in a Jab Lock scenario, sure Fox's Jab doesn't Jablock but you know what does? Forward Tilt, but even more notable than that? Fox's Nair. Specifically Weak Nair. While Falco has Laser Locking, Fox can Nair Lock. It makes me wonder if Fox has anything thay true combos or other set ups like Frame Traps into Footstool. Surely he shouldn't be able to right (Last Hit Fair?)? very true i bet if people would master characters better and better and try matchups against olimar, meta knight, diddy and ice climbers the character would get much higher not above does 3 but a lot higher then normal

I'd honestly be willing to say Fox could actually be even higher than he is here on Mew2King's Tier Lost considering the VAST representation the character had in Japan. In Japan, Fox was widely considered Top Tier in Brawl and honestly I can totally see why.

M2k is just being humble. He's the best brawl player of all time. He assembled the tier list as well with input from Salem and others.

Cynwit he's still usable, but he's a huge time sink now. it takes a l o t of practice to start to put everything together with him, and the weight nerf doesn't help either. fingies crossed for buffs

I remember playing brawl as just a kid so I never got in depth with any character, but I think I'll listen to Salem on that side B because he would not say that unless he's done it or seen it personally

If Brawl was the first smash game, it would probably be seen more fondly

@@johnzehr5429 I'd argue that while yes, each Smash game has it's similarities that carry over, that all of them still have enough unique and different aspects about them to where Ultimate is actually its own game and not "a version of Brawl."

jwalk mk was overcentralizing but by far the most fun and complex character, 90% of the other good characters just camped and chain grabbed. It really wasn’t that fun.

MK was banned in doubles, and in some tournaments, he was just banned outright, but ICs weren't ever banned. I once read a discussion on smashboards from 2008, and people were very divided. One side said it should be banned before it's too late, and the other side said... *sigh* "jUsT pLaY gAyEr" Really interesting to see how times have changed, ngl

It's more the fact that they talked about all the characters with untapped potential like Ike, Samus, or Peach who were neat characters but were never able to be fully developed because everyone just played or lost to MK and ICs

Agree with Dmoc, as broken Meta Knight was he was the most fun to play by far, It would be cool if the game could have been patched and all other characters buffed though.

@@dmoc7546 and meta knight didn't camp? His camping was the most braindead and degenerate out of anybody in the game, planking and sharking right underneath the stage with zero counterplay. Zero did that a lot.

It had it's moments, but it's the worst in the series by far. Now that it isn't the new one it doesn't have much appeal over any other one.

Ben Muralles brawl wasn’t the best, but it’s certainly better than 64. It was the first one, yes, but that doesn’t change anything.

@@bananers6941 I disagree for a variety of reasons. 64 was very combo based, recoveries were generally pretty limited, and throws were really strong. It's distinct from the other games. Brawl on the other hand is similar to Smash 4 in many ways, but mostly worse. It does have SSE though, I'm not much of a fan though I do know it was quite popular with some
