M2K is probably the most qualified to do a tier list with how encyclopedic his knowledge and how highly skilled he has been since the early days. Not to mention his skill with such a wide variety of the cast, not just a main with a secondary or two. Excited to hear more of your opinions M2K!

Ganon really is the true noob killer character. Literally high tier against unranked players. Also, a very good character on Yoshi's Story!

its crazy to me that amsa has almost singlehandedly carried yoshi out of low and mid tier according to the list so far. I don't disagree with you, but im just saying that's crazy. I do think ness could be moved into low tier, and gannon and mario could be in their own tier, because while mario is almost for sure better than gannon, i think they are both obviously better than the low tiers but worse than doc and the mid tiers in general. Honestly, my only actual placement change would be g&w and mew2 due to the floatie mus, but honestly that may be nit picky and subjective as you mentioned. Gr8 vid, and I love u m2k!

14:50 Fun fact: for what it's worth, Ganondorf is *by far* the strongest Level 9 CPU in Melee. The next closest, Luigi and Link, are not even in the same ballpark -- I created a separate SS tier just for Ganon. He has a favorable matchup against every other CPU.

But melee is forever

I think it's important to recognize Ganon's surprising mobility and how much he benefits from a technical style of play. Yes it can be said that ANY character can benefit highly from more hours invested to reach a certain level of tech skill, but given Ganon's strengths I feel as though its safe to say that things like shield drops and edge cancels really help him more than others. Ganon's traction is highly underrated and although wavelands are highly overrated, it allows for bursts of movement that a lot of characters have a harder time accessing. This, most importantly when combined with his size, also translates to the most consistent slide off DI (edge cancel hitstun) out of any character in the game, bar none. So far I've given you three examples that attack all of Ganon's weaknesses to modernize him for the current meta, but I think the most important and unrecognized of them all is his multitude of ledge options. Of course, at the highest levels of play, actually grabbing ledge is going to be significantly more rare but when he does get he it has invincible NIL jab and grab from ledge, fantastic upair from ledge (better than falcon's), hax dash, infinite ledge stall, waveland cstick buffer roll to center (kinda gimmicky but hard to punish without commitment), NIL runoff bair, the list really does go on... Combine this with his great edge guarding tools (uair, tipman, bair, dair, fair for greedy side-b's) and you really have a character that can make the most out of any edge guard situation. I also have the theory that Ganon is arguably better than Falcon recovery wise and has better options while on a platform... but that's a lengthy topic worth giving more thought. Of course at the end of the day it's easy to point and declare "but this isn't being utilized" when he has glaring issues such as a exploitable recovery, slow movement without fantastic techskill, many useless moves, very poor jumpsquat/landing lag frames, and a giant body. However I do believe in this era of Melee the tools as I described are there to solidify Ganon as a midtier somewhere near enough to Doc.

Zelda sucks but heres some more good attributes that werent mentioned here or anywhere really. She has a true chaingrab on spacies from 0 to around 50, (has a smaller and weirder one on falcon) and can finish off the chaingrab with an upthrow- lightning kick (which in general works for a decent amount of mud percents). While her grabs are frame 12, the animations last as long as sheiks giving her less or the same amount of end lag depending on how you view it, which isnt too much. Her grab range is decent and she has a hitbox in her body and head, even with standing grab. If you up b into the ground from high up she has reduced landing lag and can work as a gimmiky laning option, like an altered sheik faceroll recovery and maybe a good anti juggle option. Her dash attack is frame 6, its strong hit is huge and if they di it wrong it can combo to grab at lower percents or lightning kick for higher ones, the strong hit also knocks down fox at 0 and the weak knocks fox down at 20, which is around the percent sheiks strong dash attack knocks over. Also this is pretty useless but atleast on fox, dtilt can combo to dsmash from 60-70 if they dont cc it so thats neat

I want more melee content from m2k. Very few people make content on this game(at least in comparison to ultimate) but it is awesome when I see people just simply talk about the game.

I can't say I'm surprised at some of the ranking The only real shock is Samus and Dr.Mario being mid tier with Luigi as well Yoshi went unmentioned.

This tier list is actually very solid and i like your reasoning and how youre actually talking facts, frame data, and results. I agree with most of this list and think it makes sense. Id like to add that Roy is also super good on Yoshis Story as well though and just in general Roy is pretty good vs spacies. He loses the mu of course still yes but its less uphill for him then it is for other low tiers.

I actually agree with everything in this list, except for samus' placing. I think she's under rated.

old Gdorf main here, (shin ganon), towards the end of my time playing I was learning to tilt my thunderpunch jabs on ganondorf. Why? Because forward air to thunderpunch doesn't pressure perfectly every time, especially when the skill arena is tournament level. Being able to activate thunder punch slightly faster was my answer for a mix-up/gimic. Ganondorf had a lot going for him against the lower tier characters; Ganon is both strong and in the right hands very fast. But he does need some project M advances.

ness recovery is not as bad as people say imo. regarding pkthunder, a lot of ness players will go low and close to the stage and use the up b, but if you go high and away its a lot harder to gimp him. he can either go high and drift or sweetspot the ledge and, if the pkthunder is outside the camera range while hes recovering its really hard to react to. he can also whip his pkthunder around the other way and use the tail to protect him as a mixup. Otherwise if he has his dj its usually not super hard to get back to the stage, and his weight is 90, which is tied with peach, sheik, and doc. marth in particular pretty much negates all of this entirely but all things considered i think his recovery is, ok. definitely extremely underdeveloped/misunderstood one way or another

didn't know a game required such insane reads that it requires studying psychology to understand with all the "human habits" stuff you mentioned. I think I'm gonna go back to Brawl where the "meta" is much simpler.

I like how most of the clips involving low tiers is top/high level players bodying low level players from the early 2010s. For me I would put Pichu in at most in the Ness/Roy tier, Ganondorf one tier higher (below Doc), and Young Link higher than Link.

I really liked it! However, I would place G&W higher. I see him as the "glass cannon" of the low tier list, and has many advantages you can use to your favor (Chaingrabs, zero-to-death combos on certain matchups, scary F-air and D-tilt, #9, and so on) . I understand you mentioned your low tier list is not necessarily accurate, but I would just place him higher. I main him and I've learned a lot from QERB. Cheers m2k.

I love how this video is made 19 years after the game is released. As a Mortal Kombat player, the tier list is stagnant after 2 years.

I'm a Pichu main in Melee and in tournaments and I agree that Fox is harder to fight than most other characters when playing as Pichu. I didn't know it was a terrible match up for Pichu, I just assumed I was bad at fighting Melee Fox(Which I am, but I've had some success fighting Fox with DK).

I still don't know how to feel about maining the gatekeeper to high tier after all these years. A random Charge Shot that connects just makes my day, I dunno.

imagine a port of melee to switch... with online. and if they made a melee remastered they could have the og cast, with a FEW newcomers and two DLC packs with consistent balances, but with the OG techs (not l-canceling) and the ability to switch between the remastered graphics and OG.

I still retain that samus is overlooked due to people not abusing everything she has in her arsenal. Bottom high not top mid. Only time will tell for the next final tier list ;)

When you are playing randoms, you pray that you don't get given the bottom five otherwise you have to live for a bad minigame. I feel it's hard to decide between ness and roy's placement as it is easier to be consistent with roy than it is ness but when someone pushes ness he reaches higher heights.

I don't see the point in making these tier lists "final" as long as melee is an active and adapting meta, these tier lists will never be definitive indefinitely. Just look at how wildly inaccurate the 2015 tier list is vs now. Will this tier list hold up in 3, 4, or 5 years? I'm excited to see a tier list from M2k but I do not like the phrasing of it at all.

I'd love to see a video where M2K proposes how to balance the game. What changes would he make to each character so that everyone would be viable?

Gotta love how G&W technically has 7 specials. 3 of his aerials are considered special moves in melee's code. That's also why they can't be L-cancelled.

A lot of samuses are using AIs now. They're hard to do consistently but we have been grinding them hard the last couple years. I'm glad m2k mentioned it. Probably her most important tech these days. Other than superwavedash of course hehe

B Tier is Pikachu > Yoshi A Tier is Sheik > Falcon > Peach > IC (wobbling is banned), all very close but definitely in the correct order S Tier is Fox, Marth, and Puff, Puff is 1st or second with no ledge grab limit, 3rd with ledge grab limit/stalling rules, all very close
