Easycert has enough daft flaws in it, but I know my way around those minefields. Sending data via Bluetooth/USB to another app and having to extract that data into Easycert sounds too much like hard work!
Hi David, as you seem to be a bit of a fan for the TIS MFT I thought I would ask your opinion. Do you agree with the TIS method of calculating the Pfc when doing a Loop Impedance test? They depress the value by including the x 0.8 for thermal effect and x 0.95 for Cmax. For me the Pfc should be the highest possible value in a specific situation, not the lowest. After all, we use this value to ensure protective devices will always work.
I am not an electrician, but I utterly hate it when a piece of kit (especially from my own company!) is delivered without thinking about 'how' it is going to be used and taken care of. I was sent a sensitive piece of timing equipment in a cardboard box full of 'foam chips', but why did they not buy a hard box and cut a foam 'inner' to take care of it?? Muppets.
I think mine is too old to support the EV firmware which is why TIS offered to swap it out, but I don't really do EV chargers; it's not something I particularly want to be involved with. I presume the two-wire testing is down to hardware with the guts of the Eco being built differently and with technology the Pro just doesn't have. I wonder if there'll be a Pro-II in the future which does incorporate it?
I think Amy probably had quite enough of me by the end of our day's filming. Nigel is the only one prepared to put up with my farts and foul language long-term!
I have recently acquired one of these for a stupidly cheap price with it's ev adapter, and I am quite impressed with it, I nearly bought the pro one before I got my Megger 1741, but was out off by it's software look, which looks like Windows 98 or older 😂. The strap that comes with it, should be on the krypton factor, but my old Megger CM500 strap is perfect for it as it's the same form factor, so that's the style of strap they should provide or you may be able to get a third party one in that style.
My new in-house graphic artist Dickie. I won't pay for an editor, camera operator or an upgrade to the potato all my videos are filmed on, but I will fork out for thumbnails!
@@dsesuk Ahah that's a shame. Well you're in good hands with Eneloops. Still got some going strong from 2006, albeit used in lower drain devices, I'm sure they've paid for themselves in alkaline batteries I've saved over the years. Keep up the good vids :)
@@vman2kay Give Lidl's rechargeable Tronic batteries a try. You many be pleasantly surprised. The previous ones I brought were made in Japan. The newer ones seem to be stamped made in Germany. Good bang for buck in my book.
I've found the Megger hard box to be a bit of pain. Everything has to sit perfectly in its place or the lid won't shut. I worry about the leads being squashed and damaged by the molds inside the case that keeps the gear in place. I think velocity have started doing a meter bag that looks quite robust but u can organise your meter and leads without any faff.
When I was using my 1552 I kept it in the blow-moulded Megger case, but as you say it can trap leads and has no room for other accessories. I love the Fluke case as it's a whole diagnostic toolkit in its own right containing the tester and leads but also the other bits and bobs needed for your average RCD trip - earth leakage clamp meter, R2 unit, torque screwdriver, lock-off kit, fuse finder, torch, voltage tester, non-contact stick, scribble-pad, proving unit etc. The TIS hard case for the Pro is a nice one too as it's foam lined but you can cut out sections to hold additional accessories.
I was rocking the OG version of this tester called the HT. touch screen. Had loads of features but one day in the soft case found that the Earth terminal snapped off the circuit board 😡 so needed up with a megger now. Feels bit more robust to be fair
Oh and doing a software update was the biggest pain in the ass. Had to use an old usb to old style printer lead with a optical cable one end. Took half the day to update hahah
@@dsesuk Stuff like the ‘fixing another mans lash up’ (I think it was called??) working out the point of failure using maths and basic principles. Showing the real skills and fucking off the knobs. Right on, sir.
Yes mate, give the Chauvin Arnoux Magnetic Probes a try re shitty croc clips very handy inside a board for R1-R2 linking, voltage & IR ect, 2 sets very useful for IR testing & 3 phase gear.
Yes mate designed for mcb screws neural/earth bar screws, I have had a cheaper set but they didn’t quite fit as well with all the various manufacturers mcb’s have found chauvins the best and fitted all mcbs nicely so far.
I pointed this out to the chaps on the Megger stand at Elex years ago and they told me I wasn't the first to state it. They then proceeded to do absolutely nothing about it. The thing is, the Fluke (style) box you can buy new and unbranded for about fifteen quid, so the wholesale price can't be massive. The result is, I carry anything but a bloody Fluke, yet FLUKE is written in big black letters on a yellow background which is what everyone sees instead of the brand name of the tester actually contained therein!
Informative video as usual David. Pleasant upgrade with Amy by your side, though you can’t beat the banter between you & Nige to be fair!! Prefer the Megger personally ( probably as this was the first brand of MFT I ever used) though I have to agree the soft bags supplied are utter rubbish. You’d think they could design something similar to the fluke case, which incidentally like you I have to transport my Megger around in. As a side note, try the “Steel Blue Southern Cross Zip boots” they a bit steep at approx £110 but without doubt the most comfortable boot I’ve ever tried. Plus with the zip on the side they make life easy when off & on in customers homes 👍🏻
Thanks for the recommendation Jack, although I am rather wedded to my DeWalts! As for boot removal, that doesn't happen. We use Mukguard overshoes from Toolstation to keep the dog-poo out of customer's carpets! No point buying safety shoes if you're going to take them off on-the-job!
@@dsesuk Fair point David. I too use the Mukguard overboots , well when I can find the buggers in the black hole that is the back of my van… As a final point fair play Sir for “passing it on” with regards giving Amy her first MFT …. Top Man 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video guys, question for Amy please, you mentioned workwear, I have a 3rd year female apprentice who is struggling to find work trousers that fit properly, she has tried Scruffs and Englebert Strauss with no luck, any advice would be much appreciated.
I saw that Sparky Ninja vid about the socket nuller widget, I thought that you could pinch a clip/handle from a large foldback clip would also work rather than the £40 Fluke want for it?
The price is madness for what it is and, as the venerable Ninja says, you can replace it with a 50p coin for the most part! I assume colleges/companies just pay the price to equip their workshops and field engineers and those in Accounts parting with the cash don't really understand what they're splashing the cash on!
@@dsesuk I find it hard to spend a bag on something I feel like I may not like tho. The whole shape is out of the ordinary. Not that it’s a bad thing as such, just a lot of cash to risk not liking. I’ll probably stick to my meggers for that reason alone. Not a fan of change when there’s a lot of money involved 😂
@@Cablesmith Yeah, I found the form-factor to be quite alien at first, but I love how it just fits into my Stanley toolbox like it was made to be there! Makes you feel like the real boi when you pop open the tools in front of a client and there's a good technical-looking instrument in there!
@@dsesuk he's definitely just discovered The Sopranos or Breaking Bad or something,..... he'll be sitting there in his keks binge watching Tony Soprano's or Walter White's adventures in crime 😂😂
Metrel all the way, Firmware upgradable and all the accessories. Although have to agree with the touch screen you do have to double check as every screen is very tuneable. Lots of accessories and reasonably priced. Only get a soft canvas bag though !!!!!!! If you watching Metrel get a peli case sorted please
The touch screen testers are good in that their firmware can be upgraded to a point to address issues, introduce new functions and the like. +1 for the Peli case though; if I were blowing my stash on a high end Metrel, I wouldn't be happy about it being supplied in a flimmin' make-up bag!
i have used metrel for about 14 years but i am worried buying their stuff as no one seems to want to stock it or sell it so after sales care is my worry , i think if metrel supply direct they would gain more sales . i did ask them but no response as i wanted the3152 ,i am at a trade show tomorrow so on a slim chance metrel might be there if not i might have to reluctantly swap brand
Can't say I've required any support or even any spares aside from new test leads which CEF stock, but the MI3100s I have seems to be the same thing as the Martindale ET4000 for the most part. The Martindale has the advantage in that it doesn't have Metrel's proprietary connector for the test leads, but otherwise I think it's the same toy.
@@dsesuk my local cef in durham could not or would offer a price for metrel 3152 or any metrel equipment but pushed fluke and megger so think they make the profits from them .i think metrel concentrate on the upper market equipment than us mere morsel users
@@fairplaytoyou2041 Now that you mention it, I may have bought my replacement test leads elsewhere. CEF probably don't sell Metrel but they have Ethos which is their own in-house brand and, as you say, Fluke and Megger are their go-to brands it seems.
My old 1552 had a hard case but it wasn't great. I simply don't understand these manufacturers who don't look at what the competition is doing and say "well, crikey, there's a good idea!"
The Milwaukee compact packout box is a good alternative to the fluke box. Come on Milwaukee give Dave some free shit, he might stop swearing for ten minutes....maybe.....possibly five. Great video with you taking young Amy under your wing.
Thanks David for for another excellent video, and thanks for sticking to your principles ie no free stuff attempting to influence what you can say----and last but not least, thanks for your generosity towards Amy
At present, we're closed for two weeks for a break. He's still not well, but has tested negative for COVID which is good. We're due to be back on the van the week after next, so hopefully he'll be fighting fit for then!
Never been brave enough or bored enough to try and figure them out! I do like the hardware though. A few flaws that could be fixed in firmware, but still a good bit of kit.
@@AndyK.1 I have two chargers and, while one is rather fussy, the other will take damn near anything and boof some beans back up the batteries I insert therein!
