Happy new season of Smags!!! I think Ichiko Aoba's "0" or "Windswept Adan" or any album from Jeff Rosenstock (recommend Worry and Hellmode) would be perfect albums for season 5(?). Excited to watch whatever you react to though!
1:05 She Works Out Too Much 3:47 Little Dark Age 6:46 When You Die 9:54 Me and Michael 12:52 TSLAMP 15:38 James 18:09 Days That Got Away 20:11 One Thing Left to Try 22:37 When You’re Small 24:37 Hand It Over you have to listen to Ariel Pink’s Before Today.
You should try “worry” by Jeff Rosenstock it’s a really good punk record, it’s really all over the place in like the best way possible, for the last handful of songs it takes on the “structure” ig of abbey road it’s just super cool
I think you'd dig Julia Holter's Have You In My Wilderness. It's a chamber pop record with one of the most beautiful string sections I've ever heard. Every song is a banger
Really glad you listened to this one, this one was on repeat a lot the first few years after it came out. I definitely think you should check out their 2nd album Congratulations but also their latest album Loss of Life as that album has been hitting me super hard since it came out and even though its more straightforward on the surface the writing is next level. Also hope you get around to doing more Oneohtrix Point Never like "R Plus Seven" the album after Replica and hope you finally check out Lil Ugly Mane "Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern" cause I know you are gonna love that one.
Keep doing your thing my bro, you’re the best reactor out there, I’ve followed you since the beginning, that Up the bracket reaction would mean a lot, literally there is no video in RU-vid about that album although is a 2000’s landmark
Amazing that you did MGMT Smags! I want to highlight the producer of LDA and the bulk of MGMT's discography, Dave Fridmann. He is also the producer for most of Flaming Lips records, and does an amazing job creating these immersive psychedelic soundscapes. I highly recommend the Soft Bulletin, as you loved Yoshimi and LDA you will probably be amazed by it
my reaction to you watching this needs to be a reaction video itself. im literally yelling screeching at the laptop rn. the album cover is perfect omg its literally bright yellow what else could u ask for in colourful
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MY GUY a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
If you like the darker sound of this album there is a non-album single called "In the Afternoon" from MGMT. I absolutely love this song. Kinda sad that it is not on an album.
Day 47 of requesting Promises by Pharoah Sanders and Floating Points (come on you have to respect the dedication at this point you’re teasing me too much with this)
Love this album, MGMT are one of my favorite bands ever. You should definitely review "Congratulations" which is considered their masterpiece by a lot of fans. I think you would also love their newest album "Loss Of Life"
If I can recommend a record, you should totally listen to You're living all over me by Dinosaur Jr. ! Still sounds insane to this day,you can tell just how much it influenced noise rock, alternative and even shoegaze in later years! Either that or any Jeff Rosenstock album really, as some comments have already said. His debut, WE COOL? is a great starting point, but his most acclaimed work is his sophomore effort, WORRY. !
Really enjoy some MGMT. Might give re-listens to their albums later. Some recommendations I've given in a previous video were the Deltron 3030 self-titled. Would also like to see a Rage against the machine reaction. Keep it up dude, always enjoying the videos
Bro the new mgmt album has some of the best songs I’ve heard this decade. But the best ALBUM of the decade so far is unquestionably BY THE TIME I GET TO PHEONIX so I highly recommend that for an unforgettable experience
Smags, I think this new season should be full of art rock goodness. Some album recommendations: XTC - Black Sea, Drums and Wires, Skylarking Todd Rundgren - A Wizard / A True Star, Something / Anything? Peter Gabriel I (1977) Peter Gabriel III, Peter Gabriel, and So (more art pop) Talking Heads first three records 10cc - 10cc (self titled), Sheet Music, Motion Picture Soundtrack Also still waiting for the LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening reaction
When u die is a suuper banger,, I'd love for u to check out Caroline polachek's desire I want to turn into you, she originally came up from the same scene as mgmt!!
Both frailty and census designated are classics at this point, two of my favourite albums ever for completely different reasons! Lots of uniqueness between the two
This was a surprise! Was listening to this yesterday, my second favorite MGMT album. Me and Michael is perfection!!! Recommending Hurry Up, We're Dreaming by M83 again.
One of my faves💕. You should listen to Destroyer…either Ken, Kaputt, or Labyrinthitis. You’ll either love him or hate him, but it’s worth a listen. He’s a treasure.
One of my favorite electronic projects, thanks! And what about *M83?* I think their third album *Before the Dawn Heals Us* is just awesome! I'd be interested in your opinion... You might enjoy this mix of post-rock and electronica.
shit you listened no way, great vid as always, make sure to listen to their other albums to because they're all amazing especially congratulations (lda is much more synthy than the rest). also future days by can gotta have it someday now
know you got a lot to catch up on bro but "the pilgrim, their god and the king of my decrepit mountain" is a crazy undergound album released this year that is really good stuff
Please check out the band Her's! They only put out two albums and I love both of them. Their songs have so much character along with good writing & production.
You said you it would make sense for the cover to be more colorful but i think the point of the album is supposed to be handling the concept of depression with dark lyrics in contrast with happy instrumentals. it shows how he’s handling pain by coping i guess
You should listen to Tyranny by The Voidz, its the most experimental album made by Julian Casablancas. Its musically nothing like The Strokes but it still weirdly gives some Strokes vibes.
Everything Between Paint and a Wall by Grandview is worth a listen. A really good, underrated, early 2010s emo revival album, along the same vein as Title Fight.
Please react to the music of: Angel Olsen, Crystal Castles, Grimes, Adrianne Lenker, Wallows, Arca, Mitski, SASAMI, Eartheater, Joni Mitchell, Nicole Dollanganger, Oneothrix Point Never, Bolis Pupul, ANOHNI, Caroline Polachek, Yeule, Grouper, Pet Grief, Moto Boy and Pearl Jam, St. Vincent, The Drums, Duster, James Blake, The Garden and Dorian Electra.
you should listen to blood on the tracks by bob dylan if you haven’t already, and maybe filosofem by burzum though you’d prolly hate it, my two favorite albums ever
SMAGS YOU NEED TO DO BENJI BY SUN KIL MOON. Benji by Sun Kil Moon is a deeply personal and introspective album that delves into themes of mortality, family, and memory. Mark Kozelek's haunting vocals and poetic lyrics, accompanied by minimalist acoustic guitar arrangements, create an atmosphere of melancholy and reflection. The album's storytelling is raw and unfiltered, often touching on poignant moments from Kozelek's own life, making it a powerful and emotionally resonant listening experience
if you liked 'when you're small' you're DEFINITELY gonna like the new album they just came out with, it very much goes in a similar direction to that song
