What doesn't make sense with this system is that we live in a country where the entire medical system is built around throwing medications at any and everything and assigning diagnoses that are not applicable, especially after health insurance became so widely available. Most people just go with what the doctor says as the supposed expert professional, ESPECIALLY kids who have no say when their parents are the type that listens to everything a doctor says about their kids. And if people have to get waivers, doesn't that affect their chances at entering as an officer or maybe even just becoming one, or security clearances and the types of jobs? Also, the whole disqualification/waiver process makes it SO much harder for an older recruit to join than a young recruit. More time for legal mistakes, financial stuff, tattoos, some medical thing or meds, a bout of depression or anxiety, etc. Then that deprives the military of people with practical life/work leadership experience, degrees, maturity, self-control, etc. Maybe that's intentional, but seems unfortunate.
Medical waivers don’t hinder OCS/ROTC. It’s just a whole more to process to get in and it does discourage a lot of applicants from following through the process. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Well the government screwed them self. I’m a psychologist and recently out of school and the army is very very short of doctors. I spent a year going through getting records and tests and bull crap I once took vyvanse “an adhd med” for binge eating disorder. I did eventually get a waiver but it was a pain. Originally they asked for a note from a doctor explaining that it’s no longer an issue and I thought we’ll I am a doctor so wrote the first letter myself and man they were pissed. Told them to shove that $100,000 signing bonus up there rear

Hey I really appreciate this video it was reassuring to me. Currently trying to process in the Army, I went through Meps everything looks good. I submitted what I needed to show my medical health is good from a specialist which helps as you said in video versus regular doctor. I just had to submit letter to Army as part of the medical waiver stating why I want to join. I hope it goes well.

@@lowkey2050 I was prescribed wellbutrin as a stop smoking aid back in 2019, but never filled so they submitted a waiver so it came back for me to do a psych evaluation that I am still waiting on to be scheduled
I just went through San Diego MEPS on Monday 04/17/2023, they pulled my medical record from Kaiser however nothing was pulled for medications, could be i am not on any, the doc did however say they can go back up to 2010.

God damn there’s soo much to figure out on just to get a waiver.. i don’t even know where to begin at this point. I don’t even have health insurance currently. Idk the names of my previous doctors. Idk the psychiatrist who prescribed me a script for antidepressants 5 years ago. Probably just going to give up at this point. They make you jump through rings of fire to most likely get dq’d. @@jordygolds511 Fr though 😐 I talked to a Army recruiter like 2 or 3 days ago and she told me to come back when I’m 18 (because I told her I just got off meds a couple months ago and have visible scars from being a stupid teenager). I think I’m 100% mentally stable and that the only reason for acting the way I did was over stupid things like, boys, for example 🙂. She told me if I tried to enlist right now I would automatically be dq’ed. like, what’s the point in even trying to go through such a long process just to end up probably getting the same answer when I’m 18 ? All because I was immature at the time 😐. Everyone keeps telling me it’s worth a try…but honestly…I don’t know anymore. The Army is the only career I severely wanna do. I had a WHOLE plan before this stuff happened. Now…that plan isn’t gonna work like I wanted it to. I do understand that mental health is very important before (and during) the military…but you can’t keep someone held back because they weren’t even fully developed and knew how to cope with their emotions at the time. But since we are a lil older…we definitely know what’s wrong and what’s right- etc. Sorry for ranting too, xx
It’s tough but worth it in the end if you get a favorable outcome. If it’s worth it to you, you’ll find a way to make it happen and it starts by sitting down with a Recruiter. With that type of background, most recruiters won’t even bother. Just ask for a recruiter good with medical waivers. Start there. I had a serious question. So, I recently went through enlisting in the ARNG (Army) and when I spoke with my consular she said they ran my medical records through genesis twice and nothing popped up or was flagged. I leave January 30th 2023 for BCT. I wanted to ask will they run Genesis on me again when I get to reception or is it only at Meps during prescreening? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!
Of spray screened you won’t be screened again during training unless you get sick or give them a reason to look again. I have a history of nut allergies but havent been prescribed any medications nor have had any reactions for over 5 years I hear thats a pretty instant DQ is there any shot I have or should I just put the kibosh on my enlistment?
As long as it’s not serious and downs T require an epipen, most likely you’d get a favorable waiver consideration. But if you have adverse reactions and require an epipen or Benadryl, most likely it’ll get denied. I’d suggest a new allergy test. I told my son he was allergic to nuts because that is what the doctor told me when he was literally 1 years old. I told him what would happen if he did eat them and he told the military! But he never had that stuff happen to him. He wanted to be honest and the doctor prescribed an eppy pen. He never used it at all. But his doctor was old and told me to fill it and keep it. Since they are pulling prescriptions will that hurt his chances? My son has never used an eppy pen ever!!
Get an updated allergy test and providing it’s not life threatening I’d even say have him eat a peanut in front of your doctor and be monitored for an hour or so, or however long the doctor deems. the people who are worried are people who know they have issues/past problems and will fail since something will show. if u have nothing then you wont worry. I am 17, have verified high score on the PICAT and have been delayed for weeks over an ingrown toenail. Yes, an ingrown toenail 4 years ago! When the doctor removed the toenail, it was coded as "surgery" so he could get paid. How would I know that? I have submitted the medical record from the Dr; not good enough. They wanted a different format. Resubmitted request.... waiting, waiting, waiting. It appears that they want a podiatrist to examine me and certify that I am not crippled. Really, for a toenail years ago? I am committed but this is beyond ridiculous.
I feel for you… #DefundMEPS lol I’ve been waiting for a Const since early December 2023. Requested twice since and deleted by an inexperienced new hire for the MEPS Staff. Then the NCOIC finally inputs it correctly just to get cancelled due to snow storm. Applicant reschedules for the next day only for MEPS to turn around and say, “applicants can’t reschedule.” Then proceed to reschedule the rescheduled appt for the next day to two weeks later. I swear I can’t make this crap up. I hate MEPS…
What if Genesis has your Med Recs crossed with someone else Med Recs? I was in MEPS getting cleared and the doctor found several items that I have never been diagnosed with. How do I get this cleared up, it's putting me at a halt

So, can meps pull from the hospital's computer system, or just from MyChart? Because there's almost no medical records in my MyChart but the hospital I use to go to says that they're in their computer system. They told me that meps shouldn't be able to see into their computer system. By the way my hospital is pissed about this whole thing.

Have you ever been able to get a waiver for trt prescription. I’m 37 and would like to join the Air Force. I’m not sure if I should get off trt and then attempt to join or stay on and perhaps get a waiver?
I’ve never had to enlist someone with TRT. I would imagine if you’ve been off it for 8 weeks and you’re stable and no issues, you can join. Then after your initial entry training, get back on it. Providing it’s not medically needed and more of a just because or an enhancement type of thing. Hope that makes sense. Only if you go on sick call for a medical issue will they bounce it off of Genesis to ensure there wasn’t any pre-existing medical issues relating to your medical issue you’re at sick call for. I never went to the hospital and never had any mental diagnosis, but I did get my blood checked when I was 13 and almost had prediabetics. It was reversed and doesn’t effect me, I was still able to eat a balanced diet and play a lot of sports as a kid. Im near 20, Should I still get a waiver?

Do you think I can get into the millitary if I have adhd and Tourette’s, I got off of my Tourette’s meds last year and I am planning to get off of my adhd meds before I graduate(I am a sophomore at the moment). I also have an iep but I have a 3.5 unweighted at an honors school. Are these easy to waiver or not or do I not have a good chance
Tourette’s is in most cases a hard disqualifying condition and ADHD won’t be entertained until you’re 24mo off medical and remained stable. I’d say try after 24mo and see what happens. Curious how the UCMJ applies to questions asked prior to someone swearing in, if you answer or omit something before you swear in you do not yet fall under the UCMJ, you are still a civilian??
Depending on what you’re disclosing and whether or not a waiver can be approved post enlistment, but Erroneous Entry or Fraudulent Enlistment Discharge would be expected. No UCMJ for failing to disclose medical issues or law violations. I applied to two separate branches and when I went to the 3rd nothing popped up when they looked for me in the Genesis system. It was like the recruiter's filled out my kit and then didn't upload it at all. I just wasn't there. Can anyone explain this to me? It wasn't like I went to all three quick succession either. A couple of months passed before going to the third branch.
I’m not sure what you mean. I guess if you backed out prior to commitment to actually getting scheduled for meps, maybe they cancelled the request and Genesis was never initiated.
@@TEAMSWARTZ Okay I'll explain fully then. I went to Air Force first filled out the medical form. Recruiter emailed me a few weeks later saying that I'd probably do better on active duty rather than reserves. I agreed and asked a couple of questions over email. They never responded. I went coastguard next. I explained that I signed up for Air Force initially. They looked me up in their system saying they would transfer me over to them or whatever and I wasn't there. Couldn't find me or anything I filled out. Filled out the forms with them again, signed the form allowing my medical records to be disclosed again. Coastguard ghosted me even after I did a follow-up call. I went Navy next once again telling them that I went Air Force and Coast guard first. They looked me up and I wasn't there in their system, whatever the Coastguard and Air Force recruiters submitted about me they couldn't find it. I then once again filled out the exact same paperwork as before, then filled out a life insurance policy and took the ASVAB in advance. Last contact with the Navy was April 24th when I signed up with them. I'm still waiting to see whether or not they're going to ghost me too.

currently going through the enlistment process right now, I am just worried i wont be accepted because I had a really hard childhood. Saw thins that i would say most kids dont see at all. And it all came back up at once for me when I was 15 and my family put me in a hospital for my depression. It now has been roughly 5 years since I have even really struggled with depression. I have been off meds for about a year now. I recently saw a psychologist for a second opinion on my past conditions, and they were "cleared". would I even have a good chance at being accepted into the army?
I have a criminal record with 2 MIPs and a DUI, the MIPs were for alcohol and the dui was for marijuana which was lowered to a negligent driving. My recruiter is already in the process of obtaining my records and getting a waiver for all of that so I’m not worried about that. What I am worried about is during a summer in high school, I took xanax for a week and a half, no more than 10 times but still managed to get psychosis from withdrawals and ended up in the hospital. I ended up going to inpatient treatment and haven’t taken or smoked anything since then. What do you think my chances are of getting a waiver for what happened with the Xanax? I understand that since it’s a prescription drug so they will look at it much harsher than marijuana. This all sucks because I’ve been training hard and studied to get my asvab up to a 85. My recruiter suggested that I wait a couple months to see what happens with Genesis, and see if they become more lenient with waivers. Do you have any advice? Anything would be much appreciated. I’m trying to join the Navy, FYI.
You’ll be fine the Navy is very lenient to stuff like that but you most likely are gonna go through MEPS while Genesis is going on so that’s gonna make it harder for you. Good luck though you got this!
All I can say is submit the Prescreen Packet and take things from there. That’s a complex situation that at this point sounds like your recruiter is doing all the right things. I don’t know enough to make an educated guess to your situation and obtaining a favorable outcome or not. @@TEAMSWARTZ I just heard from a MEPS doctor on reddit that people can technically opt out of the HIE health information exchange that GENESIS uses. I'm tempted to do this because I don't want random people and other third-party companies to know my health information, but it'll be risky because MEPS will probably see that I'm trying to hide something when they search me in their database

When MROAD went through, they pulled my prescriptions, and I had put no for everything so i had to resubmit my packet with the correct information but i never sent any letters from my doctors, my recruiter just submitted the packet again. I requested to get a letter but haven’t heard anything back yet from my doctors & my packet has been submitted since Monday, so there’s a chance i could get permanently disqualified and not be able to do anything about it or submit any letters after the fact?

Hey I have a few questions. If I gotten two surgery like torn labrum surgery an meniscus scope do I have a chance in still going to the army? if my doctor who performed my surgery write a letter to let them know it was minor? That’s considered a waiver right? Because all I’ve been hearing is if you have surgery they not going to let you in. I played football after my surgery but I recently graduated from college so now I want to join the army. Should I be worry about passing Meps even though I’m physically fit?

What if I was forced by my mom to go to physiatrists when I was 15 and they didn’t know what they were doing should I try to meet with a new one and get cleared

So I went to bct before through the guard, didn't make it. This was around 2014. Around last year this straight up lazy doctor decided to diagnose me with fibromayalgia, and prescribed me Cymbalta. Now, I wasn't even tested. Usually it's going to take several years of rigorous testing and analysis to determine that. He just decided that's why I was in pain when in reality I was malnourished and weak from not exercising. That stuff didn't do anything to me but make me feel funny so I stopped taking it after a week or so. I called to get those records andsee about disputing it and they said they didn't have anything on paper, or in their system on that issue. Should I leave it alone? I had only went to orthopedic about 3 times and they found no abnormal images and I even got nerve tested which proved there was nothing wrong with my elnerves. White blood count was normal. If I had fibro those would all present abnormally. What should I do? I'm trying to go active with whatever mos just to get my foot in the door finally and support my new family. I don't want something that isn't even realy to DQ me or cause me to have to wait until I'm in my mid 30s. I'm 28 now. I'm more mature and have a better understanding of the world around me and how it responds to my actions. Is there any hope for a guy like me? It would suck after passing meps twice, even with some funky scars in my arms from when I was a stupid 15 year old (I was dummy drunk, immature, one tome incident) to get the middle finger now that I woke tf up. I mean, shit. My step-dad had to do basic training 3 times to get in lol 3rd times GOT to be the charm right?
You’ll need to run every test and evaluation possible by a specialist in each area of your medical conditions. Source those results and obtain a letter from each specialist stating the findings and if alls good, state you’re otherwise healthy normal person that can perform all but not limited to military physical activities such as: crawling, kneeling, walking, jogging, sprinting, jumping, pulling, pushing, lifting, throwing, climbing and even heavy load with no limitations or restrictions. All PS Records will be visible by MEPS and no need to source those records. Obtain all civilian medical records that don’t populate in Genesis at MEPS that are required. I’m presuming it’s similar for all branches as I’m not going army. But the pre-screening, this is before basic? I already went to MEPS and they did in fact see everything in my history. They asked for two waivers and they got approved. I have had broken bones and stuff in elementary and the doc didn’t seem interested because that wasn’t one of the waivers requested. So do you think I have anything to worry about in terms of getting checked again? I didn’t hide anything at MEPS and they “caught” one thing that I genuinely forgot about. I didn’t know we potentially got checked again so this just kinda caught me off guard and nervous.

I’m interested in enlisting now that the mandate is gone, I’m worried yet not worried about genesis, last year I got prescribed a anxiety medication but never took it because I didn’t need it, told the doctor and they said cool, got ekg done and they said it’s fine, but my big thing is I had a hernia surgery in august and I’m already 100% and working out at the gym now for months, should I have any worries that they might think I’m unfit due to that medication?
Mandate passed senate but I haven’t heard it passing Congress yet and no update from our leadership that it’s been removed. All I can say for the rest is obtain an updated behavioral health specialist evaluation and all clear memo. Source the original diagnosis and prescription records too. Decided to just go through with enlistment and take my chances. Multiple mental health hospitalizations, took off meds at 17 and never got cleared. My Navy recruiter said he could get me set up with a doc to possibly get me a clean PE on top of getting my mild psoriasis cleared. What’s the chance i can get my waivers even if I have to send my packet to the Surgeon General? I k ow the standards between branches wre different, and I’ve spoken to two different Army recruiters, one National Guard (Texas) recruiter and now a Navy recruiter, but this guy seems like he’s truly invested in helping me enlist. God willing I’ll make it.

@jack fox Yes, it’s a disqualifying condition. If you haven’t experienced ADD/ADHD and haven’t used Medications for it since your 14th Birthday until now, a waiver can be entertained. If had been diagnosed for ADHD as an adult and have been prescribed ADD/ADHD medicine as an adult, you’ll need to be off meds for at least 24mo, remain stable and obtain a all clear memo from your doctor to be possibly entertained a medical waiver from the MEPS CMO. If it’s not in your medical record, Genesis and no one else will know unless you disclose it. Disclosing it that you’ve only used it 3x is considered “experimental” and may or may not require a waiver. Typically, not but you’ll be fine. Two months ensued of getting medical paperwork and whatnot, and only yesterday was I cleared to go back. Going back to MEPS this Monday. If you're concerned with weed or drugs, make sure you test positive for drug tests, are clean, and don't have anything on your record officially- whether criminal, or medical.
One of my best friends im high school was trying to join after graduation this year but he was recommended by a psychologist to wait a couple years before joining because his parents made him take anxiety medications and see a therapist before he turned 18 and because his doctor wanted him to get a steady job first and a drivers license and stuff first. From what ive heard of him the doctor was a very unpleasant guy. Ive been trying to help him out and wondering what he should do of three options, Lie, wait 2 years to visit that same psychologist, or go to a new doctor or a meps doctor. I told him also that the doctors words werent really definitive or exact he was just recommending
Oh yeah i forgot to mention his doctor told him that the marines were not recommended but said that a less demanding branch might work but my friend was deadset on the marines. Do you know which branch would be less demanding?
Get a second and third opinion from other mental health professionals. With that one psychologist’s diagnosis/prognosis is def going to prevent him from joining. What about self harm scars I have 8 one I had stitches in. I had cut my self when I was 16 and when I was 20 I’m now 25 I’m not depressed I have a one year old and a one month old I want to join the marine corps reserve my Recuiter told me to lie about them but it’s obviously self harm. Any information you can give me?
If documented, no waivers authorized. If you lie about it and MEPS Staff finds them and thinks they’re self harm scars, no waivers authorized. @@sonny_3033 no. Was planning to enlist as a 35P cryptologist since I scored a 149 on the DLAB and got a 98 ASVAB but think I’m going to go into the chaplain Corp instead in the reserves while I work on my masters degree as a 1LT chaplain candidate.

I almost went enlisted Active Duty as a cryptological linguist with really high DLAB scores, but I didn’t want to take a chance having to learn Russian lol 😂 but I also had a position offered with the army band after auditioning but having a degree I feel I should probably do officer. I have too many interests in completely different fields. 🤦🏼♂️
Who pays for all these reevaluations and letters from a specialist? Rhetorical question. Obviously the applicant. There aren’t that many applicants who are going to jump through all those hoops, and expense.
A lot of things are covered by DOD for numerous medical consultations but take forever. Some things are not available just because of the cost for sure and up to the applicant to get it done with or without insurance coverage. It boils down to the level of commitment on the applicants part.

So I work at a naval hospital as an IT tech, we moved to Genesis around the time this video has released. Ever since then it has been nothing short of a complete shitshow. You can't troubleshoot the program because there is nothing to troubleshoot. It either works or it doesn't. And the fact that there are enterprise-wide outages on a weekly basis is just pathetic. Whoever administers this program should get a UCMJ for gross incompetence.
If I went to MEPS back in February of 2021 and passed everything at MEPS (except getting sent home to get a skin issue resolved) but occasionally wear hearing aids but passed the hearing test without them on, will they find that on MHS Genesis and will I get DQ if I already passed the hearing test?

Hey, thanks for the video, ADHD with an active(current) Adderall script, auto DQ. Army Recruiter told me not to worry about it but I am. Is there any path I can take to prove I'm fit for duty without waiting 2 years? For reference I am in my late 20s with a degree in STEM, a mortgage and a wife+kids all of which I acquired well before I got the meds. They were prescribed 6 months ago for minor issues related to working from home during COVID, nothing more nothing less. Reason I'm giving you my life story is to ask how likely I am to get denied a waiver without the 2 year mark in this case? It seems insane to me that the Army would turn down STEM field experience for such an ass-backwards reason. I appreciate any response. Thanks.
If you disclose it, Genesis finds it or whatever, you’ll be denied the ability to complete the medical exam because the current policy states a minimum of 2yr wait from that medication to prove you’re otherwise stable and do not require medication. You do what you feel is best but the MEPS doesn’t care what your education is in if you’re not meeting the medical procurement standards. Now. You go to USA.gov and apply for a GS DOD Civilian person and work as a civilian doing STEM or whatever is also an option. It sucks but it is but it is unfortunately. Very curious what ended up happening with your situation. I am in a very similar spot. I graduated college 2 years ago with a double major in finance/chemistry. Upon graduating I started working for a finance company doing a lot of computer work. During this time the pandemic started and I now found myself working 60-70 hrs per week, all remote and on a computer. I went for my annual physical and the doctor was asking me some questions about my work and I told him my situation. Less than a week later I had “ADHD” and was prescribed adderall to help me focus. I made up my mind I wanted to serve and the past 6-9 months have been spent training to try and prepare myself for the 18xray program. I am by far in the best physical/mental shape of my life and blow the pst standards out of the water. It baffles me that I could potentially be “medically DQ’d” from serving because of this. Any recommendations or response is greatly appreciated.
